If anyone has any updates on success or failure it will be much appreciated.

Going in a month and it's not a busy time of year.

    mercr350 -

I was at the Excalibur for CES, for 4 nights.

I booked the Resort Tower room with 2 queen beds. At checkin, I slipped a $50 bill. I was upgraded to the Royal Tower (the more recently renovated ones).

My coworker also booked a Resort Tower room, and did not tip. He was upgraded for free anyway without asking.

We did arrive slightly early in the day, on the day before CES really kicked off (We arrived 3PM the 6th, CES kicked off for everyone on the 7th).

The room was still terrible, and even though I didn't pay for it out of pocket, I don't think I'd ever want to return.

This is usually my go to place as I get free rooms here and I only really use it to sleep and get ready. If you have the resort tower booked just ask nicely and they will try to get you in the royal tower. I have not had to slip a $20, and the one time I tried is the only time I wasn’t upgraded go figure. It was a busy weekend but even on holidays They been pretty good w getting me the better tower, royal tower, or giving me a higher floor if I already have the royal tower booked.

Of course everyone had their opinions, but for me the room is fine. It’s not fancy by any means but as long as it’s clean and everything works im good. I’ve stayed at nicer hotels on the strip but in the end I’m only in there to sleep and shower so I don’t need anything fancy. I’ll save the money for the casino.

Tried the $20 dollar trick twice here. First time I think I may have done it wrong and put the money in plain view on the counter! It was point blank refused and the money not touched. (Lack of experience the first time)

the second time it was “by the book” and placed between the passport and credit card. She just stated “we can’t do comp upgrades sorry but you can pay extra for an upgrade”.

so yeah, tried twice 100% fail rate!

Just got back and I agree with you. I don't want to go back to Excalibur. I tried it and got the Royal tower. The room was nothing special. A buddy of mine was in the Resort tower and guess what I didn't think there was much of a difference.

This is my first time staying here. I had reserved a resort strip view room for two nights with one night comped. I decided to see what would happen if I requested an upgrade without the $20. She said an upgrade to the royal tower would be $15 a night, so I took it. It's not that much more than tipping $20. I heard the rep near her offer a guest the same $15 upgrade, so evidently it's standard. Right now the hotel has many unoccupied rooms so YMMV.

The point of the tip though is to avoid those extra room charges and see what you can get possibly in addition to an upgrade. Maybe they comp you a couple buffets or something else in addition or instead.

Good point, but I don't think I would eat at the Excalibur buffet, even if comped.

I am staying at Excalibur on March 15th and checking out March 17th. Currently, I have $20 in free play as well as $50 in resort credit. I am staying at the resort tower two queen room. The room is comped through Mlife, but It's $79 with resort fees and taxes. I am wondering if its even worth doing the $20 sandwich? The room is cheap enough to only spend $30 out of pocket with the resort credit. Maybe if I do the $20 sandwich they would take away the resort fee or comped buffets? What are everyone's thoughts?

The front desk isn't going to waive resort fees for you. Since you are only there two days and already have additional offers it might not be worth trying.

Mlife would be the one to waive fees? So like how much would you realistically need to spend to get everything comped for a $80 room lol

Not the 20 dollar trick but a little different while checking in a couple of years a go I thought I just asked what was available as I world liked high floor over looking the strip. The lady said no problem anything else I just said it be nice to have a fridge in the room she said I can do that and we got both as she was so helpful I gave her 30 dollars she was so pleased.

Dont think I ever perused this particular thread before, because Excalibur, right? But other than bumping you to royal tower or slightly better view, very low chance of getting an upgrade here. My host is based there and told me the luxury suite is the only type they have, and it's a pretty decently significant step up from any regular room (in relative terms at least) and I get the impression they dont have a ton of them. Just FYI. But if you do get a luxury suite, that's a huge upgrade compared to a regular room in any tower. I'd recommend save your money on the sandwich at Excalibur though. Just my opinion.

Shouldn’t the $20 trick for Excalibur be more like the $1 trick

Not quite a suite, but the Superior King rooms are pretty nice, for the Excalibur. They have a big soaking tub in them. Might be worth asking for those, but I don't think you're likely to get it.

I have heard other than better furniture there is no difference really between the two towers. I'm currently book for Resort tower. Really wouldn't mind a good strip view though. Going Mid Sept mon-sat and prices are already low. If I slip them a $20 what do I say. Do I say are there any upgrades or do I just say Anything with a good strip view.

Technically now at the Excalibur or at least my last trip (2021) the $20 "Trick" is the $20 upgrade.

Spend a night there last week: I got in super early (6 am) went to the desk and asked for a check in if they had one, she got me right in and I tipped her $20.
