Okay. Going to Mandalay bay in a few weeks. I'm going to do the sandwich trick. What would be a good/realistic upgrade to ask for? Strip view? Suite?

You got it! I don't have the skills to do a live trip report but I will do my best to post up here what I get with the 20 bucks (if anything since its memorial weekend)

I feel much the same, but I'm more worried about being tased or banged up in some police cell for the night!
I'll maybe let the wife do the check-in,just in case...

ive done it twice here and both times its worked. how i do it though is i just have the 20$ sitting there out in the open and i ask about complimentary upgrades. im specific what i want though. both times ive asked for The Hotel and then The Delano. both times its been done for me no problem. when we are all done with the booking i ask if she/he is able to accept a gratuity and then i hand them the 20$. Also, both times ive been there on MyVegas comps.

Are all the pools and the man made beach free to use for guests? is the Moora beach club, separate from the main beach?

I just got back from a 4 night trip this last Sunday. I checked in on the Wednesday before Memorial Day Weekend so I wasn't expecting much but I figured I'd give it a shot.

My flight landed at 10 and my friend and I decided we'd try to check in early once we got to MB. There was almost no line, so service was very quick. I booked a standard queen room (no view). I got to the receptionist and didn't even try the sandwich. I just handed her my ID, CC, and Mlife card. I then proceeded to ask her if any complimentary upgrades were available as I pulled a 20 out of my wallet and placed it on the counter. She started typing away and as she was doing her thing I started chatting away with her and just tried to be as friendly as possible. After a couple of minutes she determined that she could upgrade me to a great room or bay suite free of charge...Score! The only downside to this was I was traveling with one of my guy friends so we did not want to share a bed since those rooms do not come with queens. After expressing this to her she said she'd hook us up with a queen room and a good view. She asked my preference and I of course told her strip view. She finalized everything and I pushed the 20 towards her and said "This is for you." She would not accept it. I insisted two more times but she would not accept it at all.

This just adds to my belief that the 20 dollar trick is a gimmick. If you are polite and upfront with what you want, they will usually try to accommodate you if possible. 20150521_082731.jpg

When ever the clerk refuses the tip for the extra help, I always make sure I get their name and fill out any survey to make sure their bosses know how well the customer was treated by that employee. Sometimes, a compliment to the boss goes a long way too.

I have two nights booked at Delano. We have never stayed there, only MB. Is there a separate checkin for Delano? Or do I check in at MB? And I have a Queen suite booked. What should I ask for when I ask for complimentary upgrades? There are 3 of us, so I need the 2 beds.

There is a separate check in- you can get in real easily from the parking garage, or its sort of across the casino floor and down a hallway from normal check in. There really isn't much more of an upgrade option, I think they might have one level higher. I stayed one night in a king suite and loved it, highly recommend!

We had booked a standard room for 2 nights. I did the sandwich and the clerk stated looking for a nice room for us. And we were very satisfied! We got a very nice suite (I think GR suite) on a high floor with an amazing strip view!

Yeah my 20 dollar trick didn't work at Caesars and it didn't here as well. Both times it was an uncomfortable experience for both the clerks and myself which is what I thought it would be....lol. M Bay clerk didn't want to take it, but after a few minutes of talking......I convinced her that I was just buying her a pizza on me tonight and she finally took the 20. My room was nice, but certainly not anything that I wouldn't of normally got.

The 20 dollar trick worked for me a couple weeks ago. I did the sandwich trick and she pulled the 20 out of the "sandwich" and put it on the counter for pretty much everyone to see. I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades as me and my wife were celebrating our 7 year anniversary. She moved us up to the 26th floor with a strip view. IMG_8144.jpg IMG_8144.jpg

For comparison. This room they gave me did not include the $20 trick.

    Mandalay Bay - Upgrades

I'm checking in a week from Wednesday at MB. Staying 5 nights in a standard deluxe queen. For a nominal fee/$20 dollar trick/simply asking which upgrade is more attainable a strip view or one of their newly renovated rooms, the resort queens?

And if anyone's stayed in the newly renovated rooms any reviews which be much appreciated.

    Just looking for some opinions/advice.
