I stayed at the Bellagio in March 2015~ I used a $50 sandwich and got very nice service. I was upgraded to a fountain/strip view but on the 7th floor. The front desk attendant told me that she would keep an eye out for something better but they were sold out. The room wasn't ready but called housekeeping to get it done ASAP. After getting to my room I was less than happy. I didn't get a good view of the fountains due to being on a low floor. I went to explore the city with my dad and made a stop at the desk to tell her that I really didn't like the room. She did a quick check in the computer and voila, I got a room which just opened up in the Spa Tower on the 33rd floor. Great Room, Great View!

Checked in yesterday afternoon. The line snaked forever and was literally out the door. I didn't think I had a chance considering how busy it was. Being we were checking in for 5 nights, 2 comped and 3 discounted, I decided a $40 sandwich was worth a shot. A friendly young man name Joseph took care of us. I handed him the sandwich and said I know it's busy but any chance we could get upgraded to a fountain view on high floor in main tower for our anniversary. After putting the $40 on the counter he didn't hesitate. No phone calls. No mad typing on keyboard. Just said he'd be happy to take care of us. Said they like to take care of return customers. We got 27th floor center in main tower. We look directly at fountains and Eiffel Tower. AWESOME! I will post view pic on follow up trip report.

This was after flight arrived 30minutes early and got free upgrade from Avis to a convertible Mustang from a Ford Focus. Now hoping our luck continues.

What kind of gold card upgrades have people gotten at the Belagio. This is my 1st time since making Gold, I am not expecting much but just wondering other peoples experience with gold upgrades.

I wouldn't expect much of anything for gold... I'm platinum and rarely see anything automatically at any mlife property. If it does happen it's usually a view upgrade at most.

I would say chance of upgrade is $20 > platinum > gold.
If your room is comped, don't expect anything as some experts here already said many times

In the past, I have had pretty good luck with the $20/$50 sandwich even when my rooms were comped.

Checked in on Friday, Aug 21st for 3 nights, after booking a Resort Queen Room. Spoke with Charlotte and gave her the $20 sandwich and was upgraded to a Deluxe Fountain View room over the weekend!!

first time at bellagio, 3 night offer through mlife from Sun-Wed, used invited guest line. $20 netted me an offer for a $25 discount on a suite upgrade which I almost scoffed at, and ultimately a "view" upgrade to a 26th floor pool view room. was not impressed by upgrade or room in general.

What kind of suite did you get? How much was the upgrade with the $25 discount? We are going the end of may Mon-Wed.

I actually never got an upgrade at Bellagio even though I always tip $20 to the person checking me in. All my stays at Bellagio have been comped so I believe there's nothing much the clerk can do to upgrade you in that case? I don't know. Perhaps when you're comped a room, you're locked into a certain type of room determined by your play by your host? Anyway, I don't mind tipping the $20 everytime, especially when my entire stay is typically comped. It spreads good karma :)

I'm hoping for a fountain view as well - will they laugh if I offer $20 or should I offer $50?

low level fountain view is possible.
No one will laugh at $20, but don't expect much even with $50.

Friday 23rd September 2016 - Tried the trick. Nice staff member. I had the twenty filed between my passport and the credit card. I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She unfold the 20 and popped it to the side in full view and started typing away. She gave me a restaurant line pass for the week and also said she was able to get me a room close to the elevators and casino (as i had requested) and a view of the pool. I walked away feeling that it had gone well and the trick had worked. But when we got to the room it was one of the old (ie not remodelled rooms) and it was pretty dated to be honest. I think we would have gotten the same without doing the trick but I guess there is no harm in trying. I think you would get better success checking in a weekday rather than a Friday or Saturday in high season. That said, I will try again next time :)

I always ask from the get-go is tipping allowed when I reach the front desk clerk and pop out a 20 .Then proceed to inquire what is available room wise and upgraded room pricing we stayed at the Bellagio in January 2017 and it was during a very busy convention week. The gal proceeded to ask about our purpose of stay and I always respond with kindness and a smile. She immediately whipped out passes to skip the line and upgraded our room at no charge to a better room with view, remodel and worked to get us away from the elevator. Then she asked if we would be interested in a suite for a slight daily increase we have stayed in the suites here before and love the steam showers in the room.So I asked how much is the slight daily increase she said let me see what I can do after a few minutes on the phone with whoever she said to us 95.00 additional per night we snapped it up in a heartbeat. The room was close to 1200sqft full bar area ,dining room living room combo and separate bedroom area and of course steam-shower.Did the 20 have anything to do with the lower price upgrade maybe maybe not but I was happy to score this room for that price and we had a great trip.

Booked a penthouse. Wasn't ready at 1230 - got a corner penthouse + view. Not an "upgrade" per se, but darn nice.

Had booked Resort Tower King Monday/Tuesday nights with $200 Royal offer. Slipped $20 between cards and she immediately said "Lets just put this right here until we see what I can do" and put the bill on the top counter in plain view. She typed and typed and told us we could stay with our room but it wasn't available with a view BUT we could switch to regular King for same price with a fountain/strip view. We went with the view and had a very new feeling Spa tower King with perfect view of the fountains and strip. I told her we were moving to the Aria after and would appreciate late check out, she gave us till 12 as opposed to the default 11. Anything more would cost. She was very helpful and of course we left the tip.
