I want to try this when I head to the Trump in a few weeks. From some googling seems like more people have succeeded than failed.

A few questions, is it better to check in a little later? I'm driving in, my friend is flying in, I'm picking her up at like 3-4. Would it be better for us to go hang out for a bit then head to the hotel at like 6 or something instead?

Also it's a pretty busy weekend in Vegas, but not specifically to the Trump.. (Billboard awards at MGM and a fight at Mandalay), does that matter? I mean, how would I know if the hotel is sold out or something. Is it worth even trying?

So I had success this weekend at the Trump!! well, actually I chickened out. But, I think the lady still saw my $20 crumpled up in my hand. So first she asked if we wanted to pay to upgrade, and we said no. Then she asked if this was our first stay at the Trump and I said yes, I'm from Cali and my friend flew in to come to the Idol finale with me, and we wanted to stop in Vegas first (true), and we started talking about Idol and stuff, and how I won tickets to the Billboard awards. Then she said, I'm going to give you the 1 bedroom complimentary! So then she walked us out through the lobby, gave us a few recommendations and I gave her the $20 and we were on our way to the HUGE 1 bedroom corner suite!!

The reason I chickened out is because the guy next to us was trying to add a day to his reservation and his attendant said, oh we are 98% sold out, every hotel in Vegas is pretty booked up, the rate is $398 for tonight, Yikes!! (we paid $130 on priceline). So I figured it probably wasn't worth asking.

But it worked out! The lady was SO nice we were so grateful. Having 2 showers was the best thing ever. I will definitely be back to the Trump.

We were at the Trump 2 weeks ago, and we had purchased a basic 1 bedroom (we got a 1 bedroom because I was joining them, we had to be sure we'd have the couch for me to sleep on). My dad slipped a 20 and asked for a view or a bigger room and we got a corner suite, with a slightly nicer view (pretty much a dead on view of the Wynn and down the north strip) and they told me she didn't take the $20 and it would be her pleasure to upgrade them anyways (something tells me they should of slid it to her later haha but they didn't). The room was really nice! I love it there, my parents were highly impressed. I highly recommend staying there, great staff, great rooms.

So its2019 already, I am impressed with the reviews on Trump Hotel. I plan to stay there this coming July for four days. Can anyone share their recent experience with Trump Hotel? Does the $20 trick still works? I am not expecting a penthouse room for an upgrade. I am just booking a standard room, but hoping i can have a complimentary upgrade to a 1 bedroom suite. Thank you all for your time

all you can do is try.
in the event that they refuse the $20 but still comp you an upgrade, you really should find a way to tip them.
grab a $20 gift card at Starbucks or something.

I'm pretty sure that place is rather vacant, like......in general these days, so any tip you offer will likely provide some sort of upgrade....

When I used the $20 Trick it was successful but then it wasn't. I got a very pleasant front desk attendant who schmoozed me as much as I was schmoozing him. I had "won" the room on Priceline and the rate was pretty rock bottom. I thought I would try to get a higher floor and strip view... and I was successful. He then told me that because it was my first time at Trump Las Vegas he would waive the resort fee. I was blown away, right? I got everything I wanted and on a Priceline bid to boot!

The room showed signs of wear and tear and although it was nice It was not as nice as Wynn and the windows were very dirty. It was very noticeable in the daytime but not as bad at night. The bathroom was really the star of the room. Very nice indeed.

The insult came a couple of weeks later when I got my credit card statement. The resort fee was there after all. But now it was just my word against the Front Desk Clerk. I'm thinking this may be done on purpose, since it's pretty difficult to fight it after you are long gone. I was initially pleased with the hotel but it did leave a bad taste. I would not stay there again.

I checked into the Trump about 3:00 on Saturday 1/29. I gave the clerk my ID and CC, but kept hold of the $20 bill (in plain sight). I figure they know what's up if I show the money, and it avoids the rare but awkward situation when there are no upgrades available, but the clerk still has my $20. Fortunately, this was not the case.

I had a Superior King booked, and asked if there were any upgrades available. He asked what I was looking for, and I responded, "A one-bedroom." He said he could get me a one bedroom suite, and if I wanted a low or high floor. I asked for a high floor and got a room on the 56th floor with a north-facing view. I said thank you and handed him the $20.

I took some pictures a couple weeks ago of my one-bedroom at Trump.
With the one bedroom you get a HUUUUUGE bathroom (plus a regular size full bathroom off the living room). Mine was an HGVC unit though (Hilton Grand Vacations Club - they bought a number of floors from Trump for timeshare - you'd never know it because there are NO signs anywhere that part of the place is HGVC). Not sure what the difference is between the Trump Hotel rooms and the HGVC rooms. I've never stayed in the "studio" part of a two-bedroom, which would be what you would probably get if you book a cheap rate off Priceline. It was pretty busy there the last week of January. If you drive, there is only valet parking, but the valet staff is pretty good. I only had to wait less than 5 minutes each time to bring my car around. It appears you can get coffee (etc) to go from the restaurant. It was pretty busy as early as 7 am midweek.

Looks like @GeorgeJ. beat me to it, but here's my room:

Master bathroom -- Glass door on the right is the shower, on the left is the WC. Yes, it is bigger than my bedroom at home!:

View -- 56th floor facing north -- you can see Resorts World and The STRAT right next to it. On the left side of the pic is Palace Station, and the little blue dot in the center of the frame is Circa:

Also of note: there was lots of storage space both in the living room and the bedroom. There were two armoires in the bedroom that lit up when the doors were opened.

My company footed the bill for this stay, which was ~$600 for 3 nights, everything included.

I would definitely stay here again, except that:
-- Since they don't have a casino, I seriously doubt that I would ever be comped a room.;)
-- The walk to/from the strip is a bit sketchy after dark (desolate, dimly lit, limited sidewalks). I didn't mind it so much, but I wouldn't want Mrs. Joeman making that walk at night. During the day, it was fine. When the Fashion Show shops/restaurants were open, there was more foot traffic. If they ever do something with the land between the Trump and the Strip, it would definitely help.

Joeman, so you got a 1 bedroom for $200 a night including taxes? Great deal. It looks like HGVC didn't make any changes to the Trump rooms that they bought. Your room looks just like mine did. Mine was on one of the HGVC floors; 22nd floor. I have another stay booked for April which I am looking forward too. If I gambled nearby, I would probably drive over to Resorts World from Trump and gamble there. Just take the road in back (West of LV Blvd) (Sammy Davis Jr Drive) over to Resorts World where the parking garage is right off Sammy Davis Jr. Drive. Easy peazy.

Tried this at the Trump and they just left my money on the calendar and took the card. Still have me a nice room. Maybe the gesture mattered but the cameras were on? High floor with a jacuzzi tub...maybe they are just all nice rooms.
