It's time for my annual pilgrimage to watch the Penguins play at the Fortress. As with all of my trips, it starts out small and grows and grows. Vegas for the weekend for the game. Then realized I could pop down and catch them play the 'yotes in Phoenix. And still needed to use up last year's Seven Stars retreat - so up to Reno to take advantage of that. The itinerary: 3 Nights The D 1 Night at a random Hyatt in Phoenix near the stadium 4 Nights Silver Legacy The plans: Hockey x 2 VP x A Lot Slotting Around Somehow using up $500 folio credit plus a $100 Celebration Dinner in Reno Working From Everywhere It's been a crazy start to 2024 for me - I haven't actually been to my house yet this year. Was in PA visiting family and then Orlando for vacation and then on a work trip. Had ~16 hours in St. Louis last night but just crashed at my parents' instead of doing the long drive out to the boonies to my place. Also, somehow it's Jan 19th and I haven't gambled at all. Not even once. Time to get my fix! Hoping for a royal flush or two to start the year off right.
First win of the trip. The guy across the aisle from me asked if I’d like a drink ticket cause he has extras he won’t use. Do I? Of course I do.
@eliza have you been to the Harrah’s about 40 minutes from Phoenix? Probably not a place to “seek out” if you’re only there for a day.
Hey girl! When are you in Phoenix?! Maybe we can meet up. I am in Vegas Jan. 27-Feb. 3, but am guessing you will be in Reno by then lol
Landed in LAS! Ah, my happy place! A bit of drama as we aborted our first landing run when we were pretty low. Apparently the previous plane to land hadn’t yet cleared runway. Luckily we were able to do a loop and landed safely on the second try. So glad for professional pilots and ATC. And it all worked out well as I’m headed to ride share up $850 on airport slots.
Awesome start, at the airport no less. Curious about your hockey tix. You’re staying at the D and not CET, so I assume you’re not using the CET hockey ticket offer.
This is going to be a very quick trip to Phoenix. Think I’m there like 25 hours but need to work, sleep, and hockey. Hoping to come back and spend more time at some point because I’d love to check out the casinos in the area. My host at the D comped me two tickets to the game in their suite. I wasn’t aware CET even had a hockey offer, which isn’t surprising since I don’t gamble much at CET in Vegas. Most of my CET play is Reno and various locals.
I had that happen once a few years ago. As the pilot was preparing for the second approach he came on the speaker to let us know what was up. "Sorry for that folks, but control thought we were coming in a little too close to the plane that landed ahead of us, I think I could have put it in there, but they make the call, We will have you on the ground in a few minutes." I admired his ambition. Have a profitable trip and you know I will be following along.
Neither was I until I saw it browsing offers awhile back. it is much more enjoyable, watching my ducks, lose in Vegas, lol.
Checked in. The D remains precious about their rooms. I requested two beds because originally uncle was going to game with me tomorrow and crashing downtown. But he bailed. The front desk clerk offered to move me to a corner king room for $50 a night. “It’s a much nicer room”. It really isn’t. I’m sure my host would have comped it off, but it just seemed like a hassle. Plus now I have a pizza bed.
