Annoying conversations with Non-Vegas fans

NVF: You were in Vegas?
ME: Yes
NVF (excited): Did you stay in the pyramid?
ME: No
NVF (disappointed): Oh!
ME: I stayed at the Wynn.
NVF: Where?
ME: But I have stayed at the pyramid a few years ago.
NVF: High five!!!

NVF: You are going to Vegas?
ME: Yes
NVF: Again?
ME: Yes
NVF: But haven't you been in Vegas last year as well?

NVF: You are going to Vegas?
ME: Yes
NVF: Do you gamble a lot?
ME: Define 'a lot'.
NVF: I don't know....gambling for several hours, spending several thousands of dollars each day.
ME: No
NVF: Then why do you go to Vegas?

Me : Vegas
NVF: You must be rich.
Me : I used to be rich.

Really, some folks just do not get it. I know a few people who would NEVER go to Vegas. One guy and his wife sold their home and did an RV around the country for almost 24 months. Hit almost every state but never went to Vegas. Guessing some people think it is just people drinking, gambling and have sex on the streets for something like that.

Oh well...

 

So much so I usually don’t tell people where I’m going unless they directly ask. And even then, I’m going to start saying “the desert” instead.

None of my friends really get it. :-(

Coworker: I don’t think I knew where you went on vacation-where’d you go?
Me: Las Vegas
Coworker: But you don’t gamble, do you?
MeNOYB) Sure, I’ll try twenty dollars, be happy to win a little.

If I admitted to playing a slot at $5/spin my friends would freak out, even though they think nothing of spending that on their own chosen indulgences

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, it is called “Sin City” after all.

NVF: What do you do there?
Me: Gamble a little, eat a little, hang out at the pool a little, take a few pictures, and just loaf around. Why, what do you do on vacation?

 

Coworker: Where are you going on vacation?
Me: Vegas
Coworker: You go there often?
Me: Not that often, just 4-5 times a year
Coworker: *shits his pants*

 

Good. It’s too crowded and expensive already. Don’t recruit more people to make things worse!

 

ME: When in Vegas, I usually rent a car and drive through the desert.....
NVF: Why?
ME: I like the landscape, the atmosphere....there is actually a lot to see in the desert.
NVF: But it's just sand and rocks!!

 

NVF: How can you afford to go to Vegas every year?
ME: I always win. I have a system.

 

I used to say I enjoyed trying to help people plan their trips but its annoying when they don't listen.

Me. For your prices range I'd stay at Ballys. will be x amount plus your resort fee (then I explain about going to local CET in order to get vegas rooms comped)
Two months later on facebook Them: We are staying in a dump Super 8 (between Stratosphere and Downtown) My husband slept against the door we were so scared.
Me to myself: Should have listened.

 

I get teased when I go somewhere OTHER than Las Vegas!

I also get razzed (sometimes can't tell if they are kidding or serious) for not wanting to stay with cow-orkers at {Hawthorn Hampton La Quinta whatever} on business trips to LV.

Hell, I've had people here over the years give me shit for going to Hawaii "too much." We all have comfort zones we "get" and discomfort zones we don't!

 

I have never been to Hawaii but I cannot envision a scenario that exists where going there "too much" could ever be a thing. I will get there before much longer however. I promise.

 

After I’ve booked my trip to LV:

Me: “Sorry I can’t make your retirement/gender reveal/divorce paper signing party. I’ll be out of town.”
Friend: “Where are you going?”
Me: “I’m going out west. Visit family.”
Friend: “You go there a lot!”
Me: “Well, none of us are getting any younger.”

 

Me: I just booked a trip to Vegas. Can't wait.
Co-worker: I hate Vegas.
Me: Have you ever been? There is a lot more to do than gamble. There are a lot of really good restaurants and shows.
Co-worker: I am not a gambler.
Me:.....
Co-Worker: Just seems like a waste of money.
Me: Have you ever been?
Co-worker: No.
Me: *walks away*

And then there are those I call the Las Vegas naive, like the ones who prefer staying at the Hampton in the toolies rather than on the Strip ...

This was a real conversation a year or so back ...

cow-orker: Uh, you wanna do lunch?
me: Yeah, where?
cow-orker: Well, I hear there's a TGIF at Sams Town and I saw a Wendy's on Flaming.
me: (trying not to laugh or use profanity) ... Come with me! I'll show you some Real Vegas!
cow-orker: Where are we going.
me: To get you some Real Vegas.
cow-orker: But but, uh, but ...
me: If you like TGIF you will LOVE this place! Get in the car!

Any guesses where I took him? (LOL, and NO, it was NOT HHAGG!)
