Me: Booked a trip for next month! Guess where? ;)

Them: You ALWAYS go to Vegas! You must have a [drug/gambling/sex] problem or something.

Me: Yeah, and you must have an ignorant dumba** problem... or something.

Well, I think you've made a mistake, but I don't think we agree on what the mistake is.

My mistake was misjudging how sensitive you are about a friendly, joking jab on an internet message board.

My pet peeve is the people who have the most reason to keep their mouth shut to me about it are the ones with the biggest yaps and the most to say. Check my trip counter, 6 trips in 15 years. Hardly a problem. But, I get pretty much the same treatment as any of you guys do. Honestly, the older I get the fewer people I talk to and less I tell them.

I was just gonna make this exact same reply/post. Even my non Vegas friends know that I can work the f+ck out of the system and get a fair deal for my money like only Vegas people know how to. Rooms, food, resort fees that I don't pay and a cheapy flight as my schedule allows (never mind my free play offers) are often equivalent to an entire week long trip for some people. My peeps that don't like gambling have a begrudging respect for the value I get from the casinos. To be sure I am a life long loser at games of chance. But man I have literally over a year of foggy fun memories and good times to show for that lost money.

I avoid saying Vegas. I learned the hard way. For some reason, Vacations are OK, unless it's Vegas. Then, apparently, it's frivolous and you should prefer to be at work versus taking time off.

And worse, once they know you've gone to Vegas... EVERY time you take time off "are you going to Vegas again?"

Now, If I went once every two years, it wouldn't be bad. But since I like at least twice a year, I can see why non-Vegas-ites are horrified.

Well, no, I can't, since I think the whole point of a vacation is to do what YOU want, but hey! :)

All vacations are frivolous! They're supposed to be that way! :)

Not at all annoying, but several times a year, like clockwork.

Me: I'll be gone a couple days, so if there are any problems with the animals DH will call you.

My vet: Okay, where you going?

    Me: Same place.

My vet: Don't worry, just go, have fun.

    Today....

Dept. Chair: Youre going to Vegas? I want to go to Vegas. Maybe this time, my wife won’t be in a life crisis.
Me: Yeah, you could actually enjoy yourself.
Dept. Chair: Maybe this time I’ll stay at the Bellagio.
Me: Most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. But, it’s 45 minutes and $37 to get two coffees and a croissant from the lobby. We’re doing Cosmo again this time.
    Dept. Chair: Cosmo? Where’s that?
Me: Next to the Belaggio lol....towards the airport. (Shows pictures of Cosmo).
    Dept. Chair: Oohhhhh....
Dept. Chair... But the Cosmopolitan doesn't have a casino, right?
    Me: Fucking wrong.
Dept. Chair: Are you sure? I thought that didn’t have a casino.
Me: Dude...the Cosmopolitan has a fucking SWANKY casino, sexyvibe, and cool rooms bro.
Dept. Chair: I had a good bed at the Palazzo.

I think, to a certain degree, all of us here at VMB are a bit obsessive about Vegas...and, no...it's not a shock... this entire message board is basically dedicated to that obsession.
When we get into conversations with those who do not share that affection for Vegas, there's bound to be some level of consternation, genuine concern, and just plain ignorance about how things work in Vegas.
I know people who are the same way about golf & Augusta...or various non-Honolulu Hawaii vacations...or even Mexico...or cruises...or "Europe"...they are every bit as obsessive as we can be.
I think the difference is that most people - including VMB'ers - would never be inclined to render harsh judgement on them for their particular obsessions... we are not as fortunate.
The good news is that most of us are thick-skinned enough to handle it just fine!

    - Why do you love Vegas so much?
    - Well, when you win lots of money at a Sports Book they pay you right away with no complications and only ask if you want a rubber band or a brown bag. You have to love that.
    ------------------------
    - What do you do with all the money you win in Vegas?
    - Save it for the visits when I lose.
    ------------------------
    - Why have you visited Vegas so often?
    - To make a fortune gambling.
    - But nobody makes a fortune gambling in Vegas, on the contrary.
    - I was misinformed.

And then there was the time that my boss (the only boss I ever had who was a bona fide jerk) called me out in a staff meeting.

Not for going to Las Vegas, but for staying at the Stardust! He was in LOVE with Vegas World and essentially said that if I had half a brain I would ditch the Stardust and join him and his wife some time at Vegas World!

    (Uh, no thanks.) [IMG]

We live in a pretty backwoods type of place, so friends and family don't understand us anyway. We're in our early 30s, and neither of us have a "traditional" job. I've been a full-time freelancer for seven years, and even though I'm pretty successful, most of the people I know had more respect for me and my job when I worked at a convenience store for $8 an hour than they do now. Add in that we don't have any children together (I'm 30 and don't have any kids? It's unimaginable around here, trust me), that we have a lot of pets and that we like to take long road trips to Las Vegas twice a year (when possible), and everyone we know has an opinion.

I try to maintain a good attitude about it, but I'm really sick of it all.

We didn't even tell anyone we knew about our last trip in October except for my mom. I liked it that way.

Uhoh, wife is obsessed with Disney and I Vegas. She reads Mouse boards, me Vegas. Guess we are totally messed up family. Both of us enjoy the other place, just not the favorite for each. Of course been to Vegas about twice as much as Disney properties. Guess I am winning....:rolleyes2::rolleyes2:. of course, I like Aria and her Bellagio. Always stay at Bellagio.... got to compromise.
