This morning for breakfast, I took the electric bike out for a "range" test. I took it to a Dim Sum bakery next to one of my favorite Ramen stores, which was closing.

I bought dim sum for me and my son and for breakfast, I bought a "joong"

    From: https://madewithlau.com/recipes/bamboo-sticky-rice

    What is Chinese Joong?
Also known as "zongzi" in Mandarin or "joong" in Cantonese, there are a ton of variations across Asia, but at its core, it's a pocket of sticky rice with delicious fillings, wrapped together in beautiful bamboo leaves.

I got the sticky rice filled with pork version

    unwrapped, it looks like this

Sliced open, it looks like this

Sticky rice was one of my father's favorite things to eat. He insisted on having it instead of bread dressing with the turkey at Thanksgiving. I wasn't real fond of it, but out of respect for my father, but whenever I ate at my father's house for Thanksgiving, I ate it.

Looks good. I did crispy teri salmon last night with farro pilaf and sautéed chard. Been soaking chicken thighs all day in olive oil, garlic, grated onion, paprika, caribe, S&P and I'll grill it then top it with a spicy salsa verde. Pulled the last of the pinquitos out of the freezer. Grilled corn.

Copper River salmon is in, so I grilled some with a "Moroccan" marinade from Food Network. Skinned the fillets to make sure the marinade worked better. Cut the coriander and cumin in half for Mag and marinated in a glass baking dish instead of a bag. Topped the grilled fish with extra marinade and fresh cilantro. Sprinkled my serving with cayenne. This was a great kickoff to salmon season.

@addicted or others - when you grill brats, do you do a beer braise first, after, not at all? Hubs went to a local farm for a blacksmith course last weekend and picked up some lovely looking meat at their farm store - including some brats I have on the menu for tonight. Usually I do brats in the winter on the stove - and I braise, let the beer cook off, and get a little brown on the skin after. For grilling, I've seen variations all over the place - just curious how I should handle tonight.....

I grill mine first and then simmer them in beer and onions. Tailgate style.

@HoyaHeel I just toss em on the grill, but that sounds pretty good.

@Ten_On_The_End simmered in beer & onions has my mouth watering

I use the grill at the end just for the flavor and the grill marks.

I forgot to take photos - sorry! I ended up just grilling the brats - slow & low (ish - fat would leak, fire would flare, etc). 20 minutes at 325 was my goal. I caramelized onions while the brats were grilling, cooked some mushrooms, and some mashed potato - lovely meal! These brats were so good. I can't remember if he bought 2 packs or not but I need more!!!

Tonight- grilling shrimp & avocado. Will try to remember photos ;-)

Breakfast today is the inverse of toad in the hole - it's a biscuit in the middle of an omelet ;-) PXL_20210617_115813799.jpg
