I would never stay at a place that requires daily entry into my room. Safety? Are you kidding? Look at the people working housekeeping, do they look like they understand English? Now you want to somehow train them on looking for terrorist activity? What do you want, them snooping through your luggage? Never gonna happen. The terrorist could just store weapons in luggage so housekeeping will never see it. Too much luggage? Call the cops!!!:poke:. Just kidding. You may as well ask that they put in security scanners when you enter the hotel. How about installing cameras in each room?

This is just an overreaction by some people to hopefully find some way of identifying terrorists but in the end any changes will depend on the almighty dollar, it will cost way too much to put in most changes. Also, since most housekeeping are unionized that means that the hotel will have to increase their pay if you want them to be snoop cops, many hotels have a hard time giving them raises so doubtful they will pay a greater amount to be cops.

IMO, if you are wondering, you should go.

Even if you weren't one of the people who were shot, that was a seriously traumatic event. That kind of trauma can haunt you for some time if you don't deal with it. I think that you should reach out to them. The numbers I have for info (from yesterday) are: 702-836-6655 and 877-967-7711. Hope that helps.

As much as I would love for Mandalay to remain as is, I just don't think their brand can survive this incident. It was beyond horrific and everyone saw it, heard it, and felt it via the dozens of cell phone videos. In the background of every video was the Mandalay tower with holes in multiple windows where this maniac shot and ultimately killed 59 people and injured hundreds of others.

Those sounds and images will never be forgotten and if they don't re-brand the hotel, it might stay in business but their revenues will never be what they were prior to this nightmare. Does MGM want to keep the Mandalay name on that hotel and suffer through years of decreased revenues? Who knows, maybe they feel the brand is too valuable to replace but I would be surprised if the name Mandalay Bay is still there 5 years from now.

If you are thinking you should go speak to a counselor do sooner than later. Even if you aren't sure if you need to it will help sort your thoughts and feelings as well as set the stage for you to heal and move forward. This is a terrible tragedy and will take many people a long time to put behind if ever.

I am curious to see whether long term this will affect foriegn visitors ? I can see that conversation about " where do you want to go ? " and Vegas might drop out of the running given a few options.

With the proliferation of high end casinos in Macau maybe the big money will head that direction ?

"We"....the Vegas nuts that we are from what I have read will not change our vacation habits but I think the Las Vegas Convention And Visitors Authority is going to have an extremely uphill battle on their hands.

My concern is that conventions may just not see the value versus reward there, and all it takes is fear from a couple people in a meeting swaying the group to go elsewhere.

Fire at MGM was horrific. Was rebuilt as Ballys and MGM further south. Don't here anyone say they won't stay at Bally's. Peoples memories are short, 2 weeks from now most people wi9ll be on to other problems. Same with Orlando (15 months ago), Boston marathon bombing, Columbine, OK City, etc. etc. Only one that most people remember was 911 and that was an attack on America

Many overseas visitors have experienced the pain of loss, terrorism, mass atrocity and murder. We will continue to visit. Vegas remains an amazing place, a release from the pressures and we will continue to visit. One horrific incident will not stop us. We will share the grief and suport the survivors and families, workers and locals and enjoy this amazing city. Same as we do London, Manchester, Paris and others around the diverse world in which we live. I love Vegas. I will be back soon and cannot wait although sadness fills my whole being that this has happened. With love to you all from London.

Everything related to the shooter's casino activity is shrouded in rumor and "I heard that..."

Why are casinos not releasing comprehensive records of his gambling? Only by collecting and combining all his gaming activity in Mesquite, Las Vegas, Reno and wherever else he gambled, can someone determine if gambling (i.e., big losses) may have contributed to his decisions. And not just gambling... when was this specific room booked (to give insight as to how long he had planned this event)? Had he ever stayed in these specific -135 suites before? When was his previous trip to Mandalay Bay? Did he stay there during the previous year's Route 91 concert (or another concert at the same venue), that might have sparked the idea?

Why has no security footage been released? In the 90's a young girl was tragically murdered at a Primm casino, and the security footage was all over the news.

Maybe this is happening behind the scenes in conversations with the police, but since nothing has been made public it gives the appearance that the casinos are not being entirely cooperative.

Thank you to this board for clear-headed discussion/coverage.

In the presser, the sheriff said they had further info they are not yet disclosing as it's an ongoing investigation. I assume they have the casino records. He said they have hours and hours of security camera footage.

I want to know everything right now too. It's frustrating, but I feel like law enforcement is doing a pretty good job of keeping people and press informed on their progress. He seemed to indicate they expect to have much more info in the next 48 hours or so.

The casino doesn't owe us anything. For crying out loud, this happened less than 48 hours ago! Don't you think the police might want to take a peek at the few hundred thousand scraps of evidence before we are "entitled" to anything.

Get yourself help, talk to someone trained to help you, they will know best what to to and how to help.

If you think or are wondering if you should, you should.

Oh, and for everyone who thinks MB will have to shutter the doors, wouldn't you rather expect the venue where the concert was to be demolished?

Nothing will ever take place there again.

No one is suggesting that the maid search and police the room for possible problems with security issues. When I was a chamber-person in college, the head houskeeper checked every room at the end of the work day. In the Las Vegas hotel where we stay today, there is a housekeeping office on each floor, with an open door and an attendant usually sitting at the desk.

People still go to SF even if it had the earthquake. People still go to Japan even with the tsunami. People still fly after a jet liner crashes. One either let's this control them or one doesn't let it. I choose not to let it.

I would rather that they take their time releasing information, and then release ACCURATE information. So far they have released a lot more info than I expected. Flipping back and forth between local and cable news shows a world of difference. The local stations are reporting accurate facts, while I feel like the national cable stations are reporting a lot of speculation. The speculation is probably great for ratings, but I feel like a lot of it gets taken as fact by people, and then more speculation is piled on top of that, resulting in something similar to the old telephone game.

My main interest is motivation. Despite all the evidence they collect, we might never get a complete answer to that question when the person with all the answers is dead.
