Seems Small enough but any number can ruin you over time if you just draw comp and dont play. Its about maintaining an avg risk.

depends on the casino and their marketing team. I would generalize at a quarter. I try to ask my more timid guests to do 5 trips as i suggest and if the offers dont change i'll do X to make it up. I've never had to do X to make it up, either the guest fails to be consistent or the offers change via my strategy.

@Timothy Miller Although most of your info is for Strip places and I am a Boyd player, for now, I am glad you joined this board.

That is interesting -- Tim, do you have any knowledge of the differences between strip places and places like Boyd?

I don't really, other than the D and GG where i currently host downtown. I am new to their properties however. My education in casinos began at Caesars entertainment.

Thank you Tim! All your information here has been super helpful and interesting.

I'm still not sure how much a host is really of benefit to me at my level. I'm a low-ish Diamond - 31K TC at this point. I go to either a local, Vegas, or somewhere about once a month. I have a host at my local Harrah's in Joliet and she is coded as an Inside Sales Executive. She calls me every so often to see "what can I do for you?" And apparently she can book rooms, etc, for me at ANY CET property. However if I want to go anywhere I usually just log into the TR website and see what I can get and book it. And I can easily book a dinner reservation. But if I ask her for a possible comp for the steakhouse at the property we will be visiting her usual answer is "Well that is all dependant upon your play so I'll see what I can do" and then not much happens. And if I go somewhere new or not my usual local, I just end up at the host desk once I've played for a while and ask for a comp.

With that being said, I guess I don't really have a question, I'm just not sure how to best utilize the services of a host in my situation. Would love to hear from others in my type of situation.

    Thanks!

    Hi Tim,

I have been following this thread since you started it a couple weeks ago, and I would first like to echo the thanks everyone has been giving you for coming to this community and sharing your knowledge with us! I plan to keep an eye on this thread as long as you are able to stick around here.

Here is a question that I would like to ask:

Suppose you have two players, and each player has near to the exact same ADT, trip theo, games they like to play, average bet size, hours played, averege risk, etc. The only difference between these two players, is one player always brings cash to play with and leaves with what he finishes with, while the player has opened a line of credit with the casino, signs to have someone from the casino bring him cash, leaves what he finishes with with someone at the casino, and then settles either at the end of the day or the end of the trip. Are these players likely to receive the exact same comps because they gamble the same, or could the credit line and/or extra work required for the other player have any effect on his comparable comps?

    Thanks very much!

Are you saying the only difference between A and B is that A brings cash and B has an LOC? Or is your scenario that when B has a winning trip he leaves the winnings on account at the casino?

Yes, current projections show that by the year 2025, the majority in this country will not be white or hispanic or other, rather it will be CET diamond.

Yes that A brings cash and B has an LOC.
I am suggesting B as someone who just doesn't like to carry cash.
When I said B settles at the end of the day or end of the trip, I mean that maybe he writes a check, picks up a check, or maybe even has some type of EFT between his bank and the casino, but at the end of the day he's the same as player A except for still having an LOC with the casino.

I have heard that for high rollers, an LOC is mandatory for some of their elite benefits.
I have heard that for low rollers, an LOC is a total nuisance to the casino staff.
Just curious from a host standpoint.
    Thanks!!!

I love a line of credit. In my world it means I am likely to see a 60% lift in your play if its your first line and that we will hit a new standard for your gaming. Things that annoy me ( and other hosts ) about lines.... Doing stuff like getting a 90k line to impress me in your stay on a very packed date giving me interest in ignoring your 3 years of 200 ADT avgs to be stiffed.I in essence have now hurt my quarter and need to make up the monetary deficit i have been left in and either get reprimanded or separated. Imagine if you will the better a host you become the more you are on the line for what in essence you and your guests " owe " the casino. My typical quarterly benchmark was around 500k-700k in theo / quarter. When a big guest doesn't show up i need to make up his or her money somewhere.

More to your LOC questions.. theres minimums at some casinos for a reason. I think they are almost always valuable to me and are a very easy thing to do on a host side CET wise. Like 3 minutes, fire and forget email. Also just like you guys they dont tell us when you are approved which is just an annoyance.

So an inside sales 'host' isnt so much a host. But they can do certain things others cant.. and some are SO MUCH BETTER than others.
Inside sales are typically coded guests between 250-1k who are not currently represented on prop or are transfered guests cycled out of hosts books in order to lessen the amount of people a host should have to contact .( this varies by property ). The IS host is assigned a certain property. For example when i was an IS host my property was Cherokee and Biloxi.

Cherokee was an absolute shiz show.. the IS program was foisted on them, they hated abiding seven star rules and in general made it VERY hard to do buisness from my cubicle in Vegas. Once i became a real deal host in NOLA the inroads i had developed with on sight hosts at CHE were benifitial to the both of us.

Biloxi... on the other hand broke thier back to accommodate me. They preemptively reached out with events for me to push to players allowed me to fudge critera and put people in events they didnt qualify for in order to fill them and for the most part were great with allowing me discretion on room comps when available for middling decisions.

So really at the core your IS host is only as powerful as the property allows him or her to be.. AND ( unless its LV ) doesnt hold a gaming licence in the state they are repping and so always needs to do the work via intermidiaries extending the time it takes to get things done.

In Nevada an IS host has discretionary room comp for LV and northern nevada properties ( not laughlin ). So we give away rooms like candy, qualified or not.

A good IS host has a lot of knowledge about the property because sometimes it is all they have.

My favorite most professional IS host is Brian Hightower, what a stand up professional individual, organized and thorough.

IS hosts are typically the best for flight comps because there books are like 5000 people so they do a bunch of charters, 7* flights etc.. As a host you just dont have as much ease of access as an IS host. Even the programs i used were better in IS then when i became a real deal host.

At the end of the day an IS reps most viable reference is calls.. There real deal goal is to say the word harrahs and Caesars every month on your answering machine to keep it in your head IMHO.

Say I have an executive host at a regional CET casino and then I go to LV, or especially Rincon for me, and really low play with comp nights that I booked thru the website. Does my home host get in trouble for my low play. Does my low play at another regional casino have much effect on comps at my home casino.

As a LV host what is your take on the impact, if any, on more national sports betting for LV.

I think that for the next 6-8 years it will be super popular but wont effect us all that drastically. I think after awhile individual states will dig too much into their local books thinking its a cash cow. The state will overreach in taxes etc... and likely ruin a business with thin margins by adding a factor Vegas doesn't have to deal with. This is my opinion which includes confirmation bias and political affiliation. Additionally as a host i dont really like sports betters or paramutal.. not a lot of risk so not a lot of theo so not particularly helpful to me personally.

    Recent convo example:

PD guy from Jack TXT me: Hey man i got a 20k a day slot player wants to come in for NFR you want him?
Me: Yeah dummy, im starting a new book, what i meant to say was yes please and thank you for thinking of me.

PD: he just bait and switched me now its his kid.. but hes going to give them 90k to play with.
me: i guess im still interested. you have any history on the kids play if dads just handing money he likely did it in the past..

PD: Story changed again.. the 90k is for sports book. Ill tell him your not interested.
Me: Yeah hard pass. Love ya bud, get to vegas.

    Mr Miller @Timothy Miller , I have a question.
For a low roller like me, I "have" a host at certain casino (let's say Four Queens),
and the only interaction between us was a "hello" email exchange.
I never used any comp from that casino, never stayed there but I always do a drop by play every trip.
My ADT is not high because it's not my main gambling place, let's say only $100.
From a host's point of view, do you prefer to have such a player on your book or not?
Asssuming you don't need to do anything for the player.
Or ask a question from another angle, does this player's play help your bottom line?

No..A local host is responsible for his local casino and is benchmarked as such. He owes what you played last quarter last year for this year.

IS host gets to earn everywhere but owes everywhere

    PD local
