maxev Live TR Vegas is never really over 6/22-7/5 (now 7/8)

I like this new Golden Fire Link. Saw another new Fire Link at Circa with @ColoVegPlayer but haven’t seen it elsewhere.

I’m fascinated by what these rooms will look like.

GVR hasn’t updated their rooms since they built the place, so it’s a big deal they’re finally spending money.

Checked around, and we can’t peek in (or pee in @JeJas ), but we can check into the room. I’ll have to request it next time.

 

Can’t you ask for a tour of the renovated rooms? We did a tour of a Bellagio’s renovated rooms a few years ago, and we weren’t even staying there. I just went to the front desk and asked.

 

Camille Vasquez (one of Johnny Depp’s lawyers) has a new gig.

 

The District has such a nice feel to it — mostly shops appealing to women, a handful of restaurants, a Ben & Jerry’s, and this water play area in back.

The multicolored umbrellas remind me of one of my favorite movies, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, You can see them in the background but wasn’t able to get a photo without some of the kids getting in the picture.

 

I looked at the Elysian apartments here two years ago when one bedrooms were $1400. Now they’re $2000 minimum.

Helps to have instant amenities of Whole Foods and a casino nearby.

 

Met up with a friend over chai tea lattes at Coffee Bean.



The look of the ice cubes appeals to me more than Starbucks. I think it recalls pudding with rice, which is comforting to me somehow.

We caught up on him succumbing to catching Covid in May while on a cruise and getting quarantined in a nicer ocean view room.

He works 10 hours a week all remote, while still getting his full-time salary, while waiting for someone to buy out his company so he gets his complete retention bonus.

In his spare time, he learned how to be a scratch dj and is working on producing music.

He’s also doing a podcast and programming a game on the side in Unreal.

Me, I’m, uh, playing cow.

Still not yet at the point of getting a whole cake like @44inarow but maybe a Nothing But Bundt cake that casinos seem to be giving away.

 

Tides Oyster Bar for their signature pan roast. New menu, which might mean they’ve increased prices.

The server presented it with some singing, like I was getting bottle service at a strip club. He then hands me a spoon and says, “It’s beautiful, i’n’t?”

I mean, I wouldn’t kick Scarlett Johansson out of bed for it.

Thought it was okay. Much more shrimp than the rest, and too crunchy with all the celery. Seemed a bit undercooked but we’ll find out in 15 minutes.

I always enjoyed my stays at GVR when Stations was still nice to out-of-towners. Never won anything there though.
One of the few places where I've played a significant amount but never got a handpay.

 

Not many people inside the remodeled Drop Bar, but the bass they’ve added makes it seem it’s much more happening and crowded.

 

Though this isn’t where I fondly remember the GVR poker room (I was here when it opened by the sportsbook — memorable for everyone folding to us blinds, and we chopped — me with AA, him with KK), it’s still sad they never reopened after the pandemic.

I’m sure they were looking for a convenient excuse to shut it down, as live poker was dying at GVR.

 

I’m playing but not *really* playing.



Lots of locals playing today for their 10x points, but we tourists get just 1x. I should sue for proximity discrimination.

 

You should explain to them that you are pretty much almost a local.

Yeah they switched to the different ones awhile back and are still the same ones. I'm not the best to ask if better or worse, but I'll be there next week and will take a pic.

While visiting family a few days ago between Vegas trips, in addition to meeting my cousin's new boyfriend, I also met my aunt's new boyfriend in the making, who's head of security at a casino. He joined us for dinner but had to leave after since he had the late shift.

After swapping blackjack and poker stories, he said, "Come on by" more than once. "I'll take care of you!"

My sister and I looked at each other and considered for a brief moment to abandon our family for a night of cards.

He was armed and had a taser. I volunteered to get tased but it didn't happen.

The stories this guy has, almost seems they're fake, except he had answers to followup questions. He has a number of side gigs as well, one of which is catching train robbers. Another is being a bodyguard for a reality TV star.

He had a fun tale of running security for a private home poker game of a popular basketball player where the buy-in was $1m each. But that this guy is also a terrible player and owes $100k-200k to several places and people.

Get me into this game!

He also mentioned a previous casino he worked for, where corruption was through the roof. They were offered bribes to look the other way and to delete recordings. And management accepted them and told him that he should too. He didn't want to have anything to do with them, so he left.

My aunt said the only negative about him is he's a bit chatty, but all his stories connected with and appealed to me.

Hopefully we'll be able to welcome him into the family, so I can extract more stories.
