checked irs "wheres my refund" and got this! Lets hope US Mail/Canada Post does its thing! Thinking about starting my own gambling refund site - I am a CA in Canada and while I don't normally do US tax, I am familiar with it and found this not to be too challenging for me... I remember somone teaching me a long time ago - It was not the gold prospectors who made money during the gold rush, it was the people servicing them! I sent my 1040 NR and W-7 away 3rd week of January. Received my cerrifled copy of my passport back in the mail yesterday, which I found odd, but no ITIN. It said my ITIN is being processed. Is this normal?
Very weird...I got my ITIN but haven't got my tax form back nor my certified passport. I really wish they had a toll free #, I don't feel like spending $30 to call and figure this all out
Update : Received my ITIN number on Friday, so I was able to check out Where's My Refund. My refund has been approved and a cheque was mailed out on February 27th, so should see it this week.
Ugh, my hope of getting my return in time for my June trip is fading with every day the explanation of why my return wasn't processed doesn't come in the mail
For all of us who waited impatiently for our 2014 refund, we mustn't forget to declare the interest they paid us. It seemed so strange to get a tax form for a few dollars. It must cost more for them to process and mail to us.
Not what I was hoping for when I checked WHERE'S MY REFUND yesterday. Others have already got their return. I have $6085.50 coming back with eleven (or was it nine?) 1042's, does it take them THAT long to confirm each form? Only two Casinos, MB and Bellagio. "We will need additional time to process your return because you requested a refund of tax withheld on Form 1042-S, Foreign Person's U.S. Source Income Subject to Withholding by filing Form 1040NR, U.S. Nonresident Alien Income Tax Return or Form 1040NR-EZ, U.S. Income Tax Return for Certain Nonresident Aliens With No Dependents. Please allow up to 6 months from the original due date of the 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ return or the date you actually filed the 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ, whichever is later, to receive any refund due. You do not need to take any action at this time. We will contact you in writing if there are any questions regarding the credits claimed on your Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ."
FINALLY got my explanation in the mail today, which really wasn't much of one... Says my ITIN info and my tax return info do not match. Didn't say what the difference is, but the only one I can see is that my ITIN is listed as "Corey Robert Johnson" and my tax return is listed as "Corey R Johnson". I am pretty sure the tax return only asked for middle initial though, so I'm not sure the problem. I filled out hte form it asked me to fill out and submitted another copy of my certified passport along with it. Hopefully that's enough to get my $624 mailed to me (hopefully in the next 45 days because I move in a month and only have my current place until May 1)
A little present in the mail today! Handpay november Passport certified January 4 Itin and 1040nr sent mid January Refund mid march !
After three months and one letter sent back saying my information didn't match (which it totally did...) my first ever US refund is on it's way ($624). Unfortunately, I just moved and only have the keys to my old place until April 30th, so hopefully the cheque gets here this week or else I'll have to beg my older rental company to look out for it for me.
The post office "should" be able to forward your mail for a few months. https://www.canadapost.ca/mailforward
It was literally the only mail I was still waiting for, and forwarding your mail is now so expensive. I think cheapest is option is 4 months for $60. Good news, it came today, with two days to spare. My first ever refund cheque from the USA. Feel so proud doing it all myself and not giving a company 30% to do it for me. Hopefully my June trip results in more refund stress in 2018!!
I'm making an attempt to submit a US tax refund request from my jackpot at Wynn in January of 2017. I have my passport certified, I've filled out the W-7 and 1040NR forms to the best of my knowledge and now just have to wait until January to mail it in (I've actually filled out the 2016 form and will transfer to the 2017 form once it is available). I have a question in form 1040NR, Schedule NEC, line 10 (page 4) - Gambling, residents of Canada... When asked about Winnings and Losses, do I just put the 'net' win or loss or do I put the more detailed information? For example (not using actual numbers): my total estimated win/loss based on my statement from MLife is ($1,500) which is $15,000 of coin-out on $16,500 of coin in ... so do I just put $1,500 under Losses or do I put $15,000 of winnings and $16,500 of losses? Or, do I put the amount of the actual jackpot on the 1042-S form (gross income) as the Winnings, then just put the $1,500 as the Losses? Any other tips to make sure all is filled out correctly is appreciated, thanks!
When I did my wife's last year, I put the the two WG winning slips (cet) on line 10a and the total win/loss + 2 WG's on line 10 b. the net went on 10c Seemed to work - got our money...
For the record, I finally got my $6085.50 refund couple weeks back, early December. AND, because my ITIN was expiring Dec 31, I didn't want to re-apply for a renewal (they keep the same ITIN number I found) until I had received the refund in the case it threw a cog into the system. With year end being so busy and all I FINALLY applied for my renewal just this week, sent it express post...So I will be surprised if I actually get the renewal letter in January..hoping hoping, as I have just over $5000 from 2017 to claim back. It's like $5035.00 or something, so again just puts me over the $5000 mark that apparently held up so many of us for 2016.
I'm wondering if anyone haI'm wondering if anyone has any experience using win/loss statements from cruise ships (NCL and Celebrity) to help offset jackpot wins in Vegas? I'm not sure whether or not it will work or if it will cause issues if I send my win/loss statements from Vegas and both cruise lines to give it a shot.s any experience using win/loss statements from cruise ships (NCL and Celebrity) to help offset jackpot wins in Vegas? another year, another year I'm confused. Last year I filled out the form for my ITIN # and the 1040. I don't see a 2017 1040 listed online yet, but I see a few of you referencing 1042's. I found a 1042 and a 1042-S online for this year. What am I filling out?!? For reference, I won a $1206 handpay at Bellagio and they took 30%. I lost a lot more than that between CET and Mlife properties and am scared to look at my win/loss report, though I know I have to haha
