I've been in "received" status since early Feb. May I ask how big your refund was? I'm wondering if there's a size threshold where it takes longer. Mine (not approved yet) is $6k.

@MangoPort I would call and confirm they have your address correct. I got mine but 2 years ago I waited a long time and finally called and they had my address wrong.

Update on my husband's 2022 and 2023 US Taxes!

Here some bullets to make it easier to follow:
    • 2022 tax forms sent in Feb 2023 - I wrote about the issues above in this thread. Long and short of it -> not processed due to an expired ITIN #
    • Hubs processed it in Vegas at the Tax Office Downtown August 2023. No cost to us except to get there. They accepted the ITIN renewal application - they just had to verify his passport and we were on our way - it was easy to get an appointment at that time.
    • Fast forward....no 2022 refund cheque - he called and was told application assigned to tax staff member
    • 2023 tax forms sent in mid-Feb 2024 - Cheque received early April 2024 - 8 weeks
    • So where is the 2022 refund!!! He called again and this time was told it was noted as a duplicate. IRS Agent on that call told us it was likely because a copy was forwarded from the Vegas IRS office to Texas and whoever was assigned the return saw it as a duplicate and flagged not to be processed. IRS Agent cleared it up and cheque should be here in a 8-11 weeks - fingers crossed
    My 2023 Tax Return
    • My ITIN number expired so 2023 tax return needed to have an ITIN Renewal application along with it
    • So my husband decided to ask the same IRS Agent if he would be kind enough to book me an appointment in Vegas in early May.....he checked and found the first available appointment to be in June.....yikes!! We asked him about the Buffalo office seeing we were going to be in Niagara later in the week......he basically said what time and day do you want.....wide open including same day....hahaha
    • Went in on our selected appointment - only one other person waiting - a fellow Canadian applying for her first ITIN.
    • Was in and out in about 30 minutes. She said it may take a bit longer for refund as it is a busy tax time - Understandable.
    • Then we headed to Seneca Niagara Casino and proceeded to get my third hand pay of the year - all on versions of buffalo and all on $3 spins....not bad! I'm a loser in Vegas though :(
Moral of the story....make sure you get at least one hand pay every 2 years and file so that your ITIN does not expire!!! ;)

    Hope this helps someone.

A little update. as stated in an above post, M was past the expiry date for her ITIN so we had to reapply. She went to the local Canadian passport office and got 3 certified copies of her passport back in February. Everything was sent in and she just received a letter back form IRS saying thank you but, we need an actual passport! She called and they stated a certified passport copy was fine but, what she sent in did not look official! When she questioned the official on what to do, she was hung up on! She definitely not sending in a passport as we are traveling in a few weeks and I am not comfortable doing that in any event. We are going to look at in person options in the Buffalo area.

    Will keep you posted...

Note - sending in certified copy of passport is exactly how we got the original itin four years ago!
