If I have a question, I don't have to sort through 10 smartass responses to get a good answer (unlike other travel boards).

Generally, "the knowledge"... I think I know Vegas, but I learn something everyday on here... the knowledge simply astounds me sometimes.

I like how no-one uses colourful fonts or flashing avatars or extra-large smilies, this makes it easier to have a sneaky browse whilst at work.

There's also just the right amount of content so there's always something new to read but not so much that the good stuff gets lost in the noise.

Finally, although newbies are welcomed, there isn't a huge wave of stupid questions that could be answered with a single google search (cf. a site that advises on trips)

I agree that the people here are very friendly and polite and give the best answers possible.

Most other boards it is a contest to see who can post a response that is the most smart-assed.

I like that there are lots of downtown fans, and that I am not the only frugal person here, and definitely not the frugalest! One other board in particular, you got criticized and berated if you bargain shopped, used coupons, or stayed in one of the lesser hotels. I also like that it is politics free.

I love the layout and the speed. I have been using the boards at LVA. They are completely dead due to both lack of speed and arrogant participants. VMB is a true gem with great speed, great information and helpful replies.

I like that new people can come on here and ask a question and don't get snarked to death. Why didn't they use search feature. What a stupid question, etc. On other forums, getting a laugh at the OP's expense seems to be the goal of many members. I don't see that here (thanks Sonya).

I like the categories. I like that you can post other questions and not have it be deleted because it's not DIRECTLY related to Vegas.

I feel much more of the content here is about the gambling then other forums that I post on - which I like.

That's not to say I don't like the other forum I participate on - I do. But I really enjoy this forum.

I agree with all the above, but I come to help get me by till my next trip. Kinda living through others stories and helping answer questions kinda helps me to sorta reminisce

I like that I can unapologetically love gambling around here. Can't really do that in other circles.

I also like that it stays very civil here. I think that's pretty unusual for most boards.

I also love the "live and let live" attitude here. I prefer downtown, you like the strip - we can still be friends! I'm sure there may be some who raise an eyebrow at the things I find enjoyable in Vegas, just as I may question why someone else would bother doing some of the things they do, or spend their money on. The great thing about it is that, for the most part, people keep those thoughts to themselves.

I think Sonya and the moderators here have a lot to do with the live and let live attitude here. There have been "altercations" in strip/downtown threads, hotel bashing and even member altercations in some threads. Sonya and the mods try to catch it quickly, esp if it is reported to the mods and may delete posts and even warn members of "unacceptable" postings. Some people don't like it but it is a good way to keep the board civil IMHO. Sonya also reminds members of snarky attitudes and tried to keep the posts on track.

I also like the way this board is organized, we have this section on non vegas things and there are other sections for downtown, strip, gaming, nightlife, TR's and a lot of other sections. we can choose what sections we are interested in and ignore sections we don't care about. there are also sticky posts which contain information that uninformed people can read up on before asking questions that have already been answered.

I am on other boards but don't post as much on those boards. the AC board has gotten very out of hand with many trolls and troublemakers there. threads have been hijacked for political and ranting purposes, some people there just like to grumble or complain or bash other specific posters. I wish that AC would clean house and get rid of the "trailer trash" because people don't post as much vegas stuff and the open forum is more of a place to fight with other posters. They also seem to have a continual virus/malware problem from their ads. I also stopped posing at a certain open vegas site because the moderator is a jerk.

It's been almost 10 years since I found this board and was instantly entertained by Hurricane Mikey's trip reports. I was hooked immediately. Like others have said, everyone here is amazingly knowledgeable and extremely polite. I can ask things here and get non-biased, truthful answers without being made to feel like an idiot in the process.

I'm a member of a Disney message board and those people are ruthless. For people who love going to the most magical place on earth, they are the rudest, bossiest, most judgemental and condecending people I've ever seen. I don't post there anymore, I just lurk because I don't like getting my head cut off after every post.

Last reason, what would I do with all this downtime at my job if it weren't for VMB?

#1 I find the setup of categories, last unread post very easy to navigate.

#2 Far less trolls and snobs here compared to all the other sites I visit.

#3 Many fair and concerned moderators keeping things in line.

This is and has been my favorite Vegas forum for many years. It is the first site I go to every morning. (well, except the Mass State Lottery...still hoping to get rich).

I agree... I've been pulled over a few times, a few times I got a warning, once, a long time ago, I got a ticket... but I deserved it and the mods are VERY fair on always top of things! Bravo!

Like many others, I've been a member on other boards but this has always been my "go-to" place for the best, most current info. You don't have to worry about posting any question....one of the great vets on here will respond with helpful info. Much of this has to do with the mods and Sonya..... this board is set up well and ran, on a daily basis as a place for us to discuss our fav place. I just wish I would have found it before my 1st trip....not after. :)
