Fried Chicken

I'd try the stone crap myself just to say I had it...

 

IMHO, it's overated....

 

As much as I love fried chicken, I've never had it or thought of having it in LV. I suppose because there's fried chicken and then there's good fried chicken. I'll have to scope it out for next trip and do it. Another LV first.

 

Chef Carol's is north of Fremont and had great fried chicken.

 

Yes, this happens absolutely all the time. I've had servers and hostesses express surprise that certain items aren't on the menu, and that the kitchen could absolutely still make it. I had the same experience with Bavette's, though I do somewhat prefer the fried chicken with spicy spinach at Jean-Georges, I just wish it came with mashed potatoes instead of making me order it separately.

As far as Bonchon, I love them, but it's not destination dining. At least when I was in NYC, it was more of a "we're in K-town and just got out of karaoke and need some food" place.

 

Very surprised to see no mention of Hattie B's at Cosmo. Easily my favorite on the strip.

 

if you want to spend $20, get hattie b's at cosmo or Big Chicken (shaq's restaurant) across from virgin (formerly hard rock).

if you want to spend $40: option one is bavette's. it comes with the best mashed potatoes you'll ever have. option two is yardbird at venetian.

Too bad the GREEN SHACK isn't open anymore...been closed for decades. Best fried chicken I EVER HAD. That bar they had with the locals that dropped anchor and the banter there daily wasn't too shabby either!

My only objection to this is that, while Bavette's is excellent, the best mashed potatoes you'll ever have is at Bazaar. "Butter, butter, more butter, some potatoes" is how the menu describes it.

I think it's one of those things where you're not going to get life-changing fried chicken in Vegas, but that sort of thing is tough to find anyway. I personally get fried chicken here because I love steakhouses but don't eat beef, and many cities don't have exceptional stuff anyway. Growing up in NYC, there was decent-enough fried chicken, which is also how I'd describe most of the Vegas places. Fried chicken with great mashed potatoes (or, with the spicy spinach that they serve at JG) isn't a once-in-a-lifetime meal, but it can definitely be a great coda to a Vegas evening.

That's fine, it's just not something I've thought of as a Vegas dinner. No chicken snob. As a matter a fact, one of the best values I;ve seen is the old Albertson's deli chicken. I'd take it over KFC or Popeye's any day. It's now officially on the list!

 

Who do you guys think have great fried chicken in Vegas, down town or on the strip.

 

I don't eat Fried Chicken in Las Vegas. I can make that at home. However, I ate at Yardbird's (Venetian) once, and if I were to entertain "non-red meat eaters", I would go back there.

 

Ha, I wasn't even considering places like that! Chains have their place; I have a local friend who's obsessed with Olive Garden, and I'm personally a Burger King fan. But, while to each their own, I wouldn't fly across the country for that.

I don't generally seek out fried chicken, but I don't eat red meat yet love steakhouses for some reason (and I'm often with steak-lovers, too), so fried chicken is usually my go-to, and thus have developed opinions. And fried chicken with mashed potatoes is pretty high on my "comfort food" list.
