Table Games Pit bosses icing the shooter at the craps table

Anybody want to share their experience with a pit boss or stickman trying to ice the shooter on the craps table? It would be awesome to hear some people share their experiences on this subject. One of my experiences I witnessed on the craps table was Harrah’s in Atlantic City. A friend of mine got hot rolling the dice. He rolled for 55 minutes until the pit boss had enough. He stopped the game AFTER my friend needed to hit his number. The pit boss grabbed the dice and for two minutes he held the dice up in the air looking at every side of the dice like they were loaded dice. Finally as soon as my friend got the dice back, 7 out!

 

Play enough craps, and you'll eventually see it.
The old classic was bringing out money to restock the chips, hold the game up, and cool out the shooter..
Lately, I've seen them let the shooter keep shooting over the big box of chips getting counted and put into racks, and that works almost as good..
maybe they'll throw new dice out immediately if one goes off the table and same dice are requested,

I have one pretty boring story somewhere about it, the guy next to me had loaded up an entire rail of $500 chips, but my low rolling ass caught the heat.
It really pissed me off, the female pitboss came hard at me with attitude. There were three other suits with her too, watching her technique,
I was drunk, tired, and not in the mood.. Fool me once...

I left out the detail about the guy cleaning up, he was a heavily (face/neck/arms) tattooed fellow that had been steadily whipping out about $10k stacks from his fanny bag, and laying most of it out for every roll, maybe 2 full table rounds of PSOs, he's still doing it, but decides no one can throw for shit, and only makes bets on himself. Maybe a few more rebuys later, the table is about empty, me, him, maybe one other guy, he is table maxing all his bets, including hard ways, and has a solid rack of purple/ 500? chips up top, a rapidly filling black/green/ few red chips below. He had a really good throw, always making enough points, w MSS max odds to get a little up.

Most action I've ever seen at MSS. His bets were making me sweat. I'm pretty sure a call got made.

 

I've never seen an example as bad as the OP.

If someone's on a heater, a normal table operation can just feel like they're trying to cool things.

I've seen more examples of sevens when the box should call a no-roll but doesn't.

 

Downtown hotels sweat a hot shooter big time. Had incidents at the Golden Nugget and one other. They don't want the exposure of large bettors at a hot table.
Also had some issues at the Casino Royale when they used to offer 100x odds. Pit crew and boss were very surly, like they really didn't want you being there. Dealers throwing their arms across the table to disrupt the dice. Usually it's newbie arms you have to avoid, not the dealers.

 

So....pit bosses and crews are just as superstitious as craps players?

 

The dice have no memory. Every roll is independent and has the exact same odds. So who cares? If you want to slow the game down so I get more time at the table for earning comps, go right ahead.

Yep. People love to put down late bets to try and ice the shooter.

 

People need to understand a little thing called momentum...

 

I think they do, it exists in sports because of psychological effects, it does not exist in gambling.

 

My father had it in his head that most shooters don’t make more than three passses, so he’d bet 20, then ten, then five. But hot hands happen, randomness sometimes defies logic. So I add a unit every two passes. When someone does make seven passes my rack looks a lot better than his. The worst I’ve ever been ‘cooled’ was getting new dice after requesting same.

 

After I was on a nice long roll at a craps table near Reno at the Nevada/California border, the pit started insisting I hit the wall -- on the fly -- with both dice. You heard me right -- "on the fly" I had to hit the pyramids without first hitting the table. I played enough ball in my youth that I was able to do so even from across the entire expanse of the table. The first time I did so, he grunted "yes." The second time it was a "seven" and he had a nice big grin.

About ten years ago I played at a craps table one evening with my daughter, who had limited craps knowledge, at Binions. There was about five people at the table and my two previous rolls with the dice were not very good. However, on my third try rolling the bones I went on a heater. I was shooting from my usual stick left position and the stickman was a tall and lanky dude. The boxman was an older gentleman who, up until my hot roll, was silent. After I hit my third point and started pressing my place bets the boxman started haranguing me about hitting both dice against the back wall, even though I was doing so with most of my rolls....you know the drill. After hitting my fourth point the tall stickman started leaning over the table, partially blocking me from throwing the dice in my usual manner. After establishing my fifth point, a nine, I received another 'warning' from the boxman. At this point I was getting a little pissed by the boxman's lectures and the stickman's antics. I picked up the dice and threw them as hard as I could against the back wall. After a few seconds of the dice bouncing all over the table, up came nine, my point. I glared at the boxman and said, "There, is that better?" I could literally see his blood pressure go up. Now the asshole stickman is shoving the dice past me so that I have to lean and reach to my left to pick up the dice. My daughter asked me how to place a hardway bet and when I started to explain, the stickman slapped the stick on the felt and yelled that I was holding up the game. I made my sixth point before 7'ing out and my daughter and I had a nice rack of chips in front of us. I immediately yelled out "COLOR" and instructed my daughter to do so also. The boxman asked me, "Where are you going with all that money?" My reply was, "Someplace where I won't be harassed for winning." After I received my chips I tossed out a dollar chip on the felt and looked up at the stickman and told him that my toke would have been a lot more if he had not been such a "Dick".

Six years later, my Vegas wingman, MadMan Mike, talked me into an afternoon craps session at Binions even though I had taken an oath never to play craps there ever again. The female dealers were friendly and I was getting a good vibe. Then a pitboss walked over and started harping at one of the players....nope, buzz kill....picked up my chips and headed for the cage. I cannot figure out how Binions can consistently hire these surly "Suits" to run their table games.

 

Some of them are degenerate gamblers when they get off work.

 

Not really a cooler story, more of an annoying crew story - Way back before I began my boycott of the local Harrahs in CB, I had a stick loading the stick like he was stepping up to the plate. I let him know that I did not appreciate this antic, he laughed and did it again. After I told him that I was not kidding and he did it again, I colored up and left.

 

You would think that dealers would WANT a hot shooter. I was on for a a hour plus roll ( from someone else ) and when he finished the dealers probably made at least 200/300 each in tips. You don’t get tips from steady seven outs. Other players buying in in the middle of a hit roll irkes me more. Shooter has to stop while player gets his chips ( in the middle of a hot roll, not on the come out)

 

So. Wait for a hot roll. Wait for house intervention. Bet heavily on don't.....if the dice only had a conscience

 

They do. They know they make more in tips when the players are winning. That's why this whole concept that the supervisors and dealers want to "ice" a shooter is just Fantasy. The dealers want you to win. The joints where the supervisors get part of the tips want you to win. And the house doesn't want to slow down the game because it knows the more dice thrown, the more it makes in the long run.

Most of us have had experiences with bad and surly dealers. I usually chalk that up to someone having a bad moment or a bad day. Some of us have also encountered supervisors who seem like they have a stick up their butt about how the dice are thrown, etc. I chalk that up to them being overly aggressive in trying to protect the game (or also maybe just having a bad day). But the idea that the casino can do something to "ice" a shooter (in a game where they already have a mathematical edge) just isn't realistic

 

This is a new one on me. Where do suits get a piece of the toke box?

Unless you mean dual rates.

 

Yes, I think generally, dealers want you to win, and tip, but when a suit you haven't seen before shows up with a frowny face and has a quiet talk w. the bald boxman.......

Get ready to pull up your big boy pants, talk shit back, and throw that point right under they jaw.

(added: Pulling all your bets and not giving them any more action is another option as well.)
