Have a blast!! I'll be there tonight after a mini road trip around the southwest. Maybe I'll be balls-y and try a trip report at some point.

Las Vegas tonight at MGM until Saturday afternoon. Maybe I'll run into ya somewhere.

Not much help from this Texan other than the PCH drive is awesome, too bad Yosemite isn’t an option, my all time favorite place in CA. Hearst Castle and Pebble Beach are worth a few hours each along the way if you do the coastal drive.

However, for the adventurist, I know someone on this board who goes by the moniker of @Sonya (you may have made her acquaintance on the board) :haha: who tells tales of many off the beaten path treks she has taken between Vegas and Washington with awesome finds along the way - wish I could have tagged along. Hopefully Miss @Sonya will chime in.

Following, especially when the better half joins this party

Oh hell yes I will be following along. Seeing the first Canadian resident doing a TR all by itself is reason to watch. Add that it is a @Gaggles TR makes it a no brainer. Shine on you crazy diamond.

Let's hope that a couple of smart, handsome guys can meet up for a heater on the MGM craps tables.

I was thinking of going to Lake Mead for a bit on Sunday as I have never been there. is it worth it to go for an afternoon or a few hours? I was thinking of hitting the road West around 3-4 pm. My intent was not to go to LA but hange a slight right and head to San Luis Obispo for the night and then drive up to Monterrey on Monday. I know that driving into Vegas on a Sunday afternoon that I have seen the I-15 to LA at a complete stop for miles. I couldn't believe it. If I am gonna be facing that, I am gonna go straight to Reno on Sunday and then head down PCH Tuesday.

    What are your thoughts?

Ya, let's try and find each other. I am super transient when I gamble but tend to play Bugsy's, Bellagio Linq center bar and whatever the name of the bar is at PHO where the band plays. Doesn't look like I will be playing at Bally's much this trip. Since we are at CP, MB and I will probably be at Alto or Sportsbook once or twice. Hmmm..that doesn't really narrow it down much. But...Bugsy's is almost always a go early in the evening and late in the evening.

I appreciate it. I have been to Big Sur and down the PCH before. That is why I want to go back so badly. For a guy from Canada, I have done the Vegas-LA drive a lot but I am just wondering how COVID might be impacting the traffic.

I have an all time GREAT pic or two from Pebble Beach. I will try to post it for you today. You will understand once you see it. My TR last year has some pics from 17 Mile Drive.

To really avoid the LA mess, hang a right at Barstow, thru Bakersfield, then you have a couple of options to get to San Luis Obispo and the coast.

My advice to you is to drive straight to Reno for the 7-8 hour trip.

Even with the smaller crowds in Vegas you still have a lot of desert traffic with people pulling boats and toy haulers this time of year. One accident and it could take you 7-8 hours to get to LA. Maybe even longer. Even if you cut over to Bakersfield you still have to get a bit past Barstow. When I drive home to San Diego on Sunday’s, I am on the road before 8.

    P. S. I will be in town on Sat staying at Luxor

    Who? Me? :haha:

What about cutting through Death Valley, although it will be hot as Hades. Then take 395 up to Reno, with stops in Mammoth Lakes or June Lakes. You could stay at Lee Vining/Mono Lake, and drive up Tioga Road towards Yosemite. You can't get in, but Tioga Lake is right before the park entrance and it's pretty spectacular. Saddlebag Lake and Ellery Lake are there too, but check to make sure Saddlebag Lake road is open. Lots to see an do out there, Mono Lake, Bodie Ghost Town, Mt Whitney, Manzanar (former Japanese Internment Camp), etc.
