I've had this phone since 2012. It's not holding a charge like it used to.

Is it time to trade it in?

I don't want anything else but an iPhone.

You answered your question in the first sentence. If you've had a phone since 2012, it's time for an upgrade. In my opinion, anyway.

Breeze go the battery route first. It will be much cheaper and buy you a few more years

You can get a new battery installed, they usually have little kiosks at the mall. Or go to an Apple Store

I also have an iPhone 6s and the latest update has killed my battery life. I just keep a charger on me and it works just fine. I brought a backup battery at Best Buy (Insignia brand) for $9 and a mini iPhone charging cable for $11 and it charges my phone nearly 3 whole charges!

I have a straight 6 and I am still not ready to upgrade. My battery was charging slowly and running out too fast couple years ago, so I bought a Smiphee battery case for under $30 and it has been great. It charges overnight (both the phone & case simultaneously) and gives me a double charge that almost always lasts the entire day as long as I remember to shut down bluetooth and wifi when I am someplace like a casino. It might be worth a try?

The new iPhones have a lot of interesting features, but that also means that navigating them has changed too. My parents recently upgraded and are grumbling about getting used to the new ones.

So at the risk of profiling you, if you like and are comfortable with the 6s, and don't need a camera or storage size upgrade, just replace the battery and stick with what you know. Going to the latest and greatest only makes sense if you have more wonder and unfilled needs from your existing device, than comfort with it.

Get a battery. Also get the battery charger. I use it all the time. It is burdensome but works well. There are smaller ones also (how could there not be) but we had a phone in a bag back in the day so this is doable. New battery -new charger—you’re probably set for the rest of your life. Although something will come out in 2031 and you’ll say “Gotta have it!!” And I was wrong. Good luck!
(We got battery replacements at the Apple store on some recall or other. My wife wants a new one but she doesn’t even post on the board. So what do we need a new phone for?) :D

I upgraded from a 6s to a iPhone X when it first came out, but I kept my 6s to use for others stuff. I had to replaced the battery in my 6s shortly after I upgraded to the X, since it started going bad. So I probably upgraded at the right time. LOL

Anyways, I bought a 6s battery replacement kit on Amazon and replaced it myself. The battery is going on 2 yrs old now and it's still working good. Although if you're not comfortable tinkering with electronics, I would take it to a reliable repair shop to get the battery replaced. Most 3rd parties don't use OEM batteries, so the battery app on your 6s will report that it needs servicing when it detects a non-authorized battery, but you can ignore the warning. If you decide go through Apple, it's probably going to be more expensive too.

One thing to consider is the iPhone 6 cannot update to the newest software released months ago. The 6s will probably experience the same thing in the coming year. What does that mean for you? Potential software incompatibility, issues with apps, etc.

If you love the phone consider the iPhone 8. Starts at $449 outright, years newer than what you’re working with. Great camera, wireless charging, water resistance, etc.

While I can't fathom someone liking any iPhone, I would absolutely recommend upgrading. The non battery components will be degrading at some point too. Not only that you will be receiving no additional updates which is problematic especially from a security standpoint.

I had the 6, which I loved, but decided it was time to upgrade (pay the man) due to no future software updates. The 11 does take time to get used to (I am still learning) and the battery life is amazing!

Not sure which carrier you have and if you belong to Costco.

They offer OUTSTANDING deals, especially if you go to a new carrier.

In the last year I bought an XS for undeer $200, son got a new XR for $224. Just did my wife an iphone 11 for $122. No further payments. All with Tmboile, comeing from ATT.
