The Deuce. Not everyone's cup of tea and I understand that. It depicts the old world of Times Square before it was cleaned up and the birth of the porn industry.

James Franco is magnificent playing twin brothers. It's not the first time this has been done (Fargo), but he does it really, really well, portraying two completely different personality types. Maggie Gylenhall BECOMES Candy Renee, hooker turned adult film director and actress. Emily Meade as Lori Madison who becomes a top pornstar, going from an innocent kid from Minnesota to the top and then all the way back to the bottom. The pimps as a group, sometimes pretty funny, always cruel. And Michael Rispoli as the Mafia capo who gets to dip his beak in everything.

It is not for the faint of heart. These are not good people. They are for the most part low lifes. But their stories are out there to be told and The Deuce does a fantastic job of telling them.

It takes place over a 15 year time period and the subtle aging of the characters is extremely well done.

The final scene gave me goose bumps. I won't spoil it.

On HBO. You have to put your prejudices and preconceived notions of morality aside and just enjoy a great production and some fine, fine acting.

@Breeze147... have you watched 'Goliath season 3' yet?
Without spoiling me, does it hold up to the excellence of the first two seasons?

Not Breeze, but I found season 3 pretty bizarre. If you liked the first two seasons, it is worth watching, but it does take some strange turns.

Personally, I thought Season 2 was pretty far out there. I still liked it, except the last episode. Haven't started Season 3 yet.

The Laundromat (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5865326/). Very much in the same vein as The Big Short, The Wolf of Wall Street with the focus on how shell companies, nothing more than P.O. boxes in the Caribbean, function. It's very funny in its presentation, with Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman & Antonio Banderas. I've got a fondness for 'business flix' so I really like this one.

Finished up Season 3 of Goliath. I liked it better than Season 2.

Gonna throw in some "wire in the blood" with a Dash of "800 Words" and some of the new season of "Doc Martin" then Jack Ryan Season 2

Finally finished season 3 of Glow on Sat. night. It took us forever to get thru it. Pre-Halloween are the busiest weeks of my year, so it took us a long time to sit down and finish it.

S3 is set in Vegas, and the show focuses less on the wrestling. All sorts of things happen. Some odd, some appropriate given it's the '80s.

The wrestlers are doing a Vegas show, and it's in a casino. They do a nifty job of creating a casino vibe. The cast lives in the casino, so you get a variety of casino shots as the characters come and go. But they do very little to recreate the world outside of their fictional casino, and understandably so. The show is set in the '80s, so it would be hard to recreate the strip or downtown atmosphere for an occasional scene. There is an episode where they explore the natural environment outside of Vegas, and that's easy to do, obviously.

Lots of things happen in the lives of many characters. The show isn't retelling the actual history of the show, but I found the first two seasons to be more interesting than what we got in S3. It will be interesting to see what happens if there's a S4.

I discovered, yesterday, that DirecTV has all of Season 1 of 'Ray Donovan' available for free (I don't have Showtime)... so I ended up bingeing the first 8 episodes yesterday... that is one dark show, but I'm hooked.

    Just finishing up The Staircase.
All of this unfolded back in the '01 time frame. I think I was too focused on 9/11 aftermath activities to have this murder trial up on the radar.
"The high-profile murder trial of American novelist Michael Peterson following the death of his wife in 2001. ... Michael Peterson's fate hangs in the balance as the jury delivers the final verdict."

I watched episode one of Dublin Murders on Starz. I am intrigued, but I will probably wait until all the episodes are available to continue, as there was a lot going on.

I love this thread. see lots of things here that should keep me busy once the snow flies and there is nothing else to do. Keep it coming!

It's interesting to ponder how our viewing habits and media consumption have changed over the decades. You used to have to be home "to watch my show". Then cable TV and VCRs. Now, multi-platform DVR streaming. Whole new ballgame from the days of Reynolds Wrap on the antenna and getting up to change the channel.

I just downloaded Season 2 of the Sinner to watch on my upcoming flights. Has anyone seen this? Wondering if I should choose something else.

    Not Netflix but...

I bought a new iPhone and received a 1 Year Subscription to AppleTV + (Plus) for free. Apple's new Streaming Channel.
I already use an AppleTV (Box) for all my streaming.

So I started watching The Morning Show. Apple dropped $15 Million per episode to produce... So far I've enjoyed the show.

It has not received good reviews and I'm not a fan of Jennifer Aniston but she's doing an excellent job. Totally different from
what she's known for. Will I keep it after a year? Not sure but it will cost $6.99 a month.

Just finished 3 series finales -

    Netflix -

13 Reasons Why - Season 3 could give you 13 Reasons Why they should have stopped after Season 2.

Orange Is The New Black - If you're a fan, you'll love it. Lots of heart tugging moments. I nominate Taryn Manning for an Emmy for her portrayal of Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett. If you have never seen the series and want to, remember to set aside any preordained predudices and just enjoy the ride with an ensemble of very talented actresses.

    Showtime -

The Affair - Suffice it to say, the writers have discovered a new drug that the rest of us are lacking. Bullshit piled on top of bullshit to get us to a bizarre sort of happy place. WTF was that whole Joanie story line about? I wanted to reach through the screen and slap Whitney upside the head several times, the ungrateful bitch! They should have quit after Alison was murdered two seasons ago. And then to turn around and make Alison's killer into some sort of great guy 30 years in the future?

    SPOILER ALERT!!!!!

How much more fucked up of an ending could there be than Noah fucking Helen in a cheap motel room, with the blinds wide open, while their kids sit outside the room on a bench, snarfing purloined champagne. Happy Family Reunion!

The final, final scene, with 75 year old Noah standing on the edge of a cliff, as the camera pans out over the Atlantic Ocean, and we see the Montauk Lighthouse for the final time, during which I am yelling at the tv, "Jump, you fucking prick."

Closing in on the finales of Silicon Valley and Justified.

    In the queue -

Netflix - The Crown, Atypical, The Komminsky Method.

    Showtime - Ray Donovan, Shameless

HBO - Not sure. Waiting for new season of Barry and Succession. I might try Watchmen. I don't know if I could endure another season of West World.

Amazon - Goliath. The Man In The High Castle. I actually went and read the Philip K Dick novel that the show is based on. The show bears maybe, 10% at best, resemblance to the book, which in and of itself was baffling. I'm just watching because I have already invested too much time to quit now. I have to put captions on because I can't understand a word the lead actress is saying.

Found out that AppleTV is putting together Mick Herron's Slough House series featuring Gary Oldman. I'm currently reading the second novel in the series. Man! I'd love to see it, just not bad enough to pursue AppleTV.
