Wynn is nicer than Paris, no doubt. But a Paris Burgundy room is not slumming it, either (that shower!). I'd pick Paris given the circumstances.

Agreed. If the wife goes along, then it's no longer a guy's trip. It just ain't. I'm not saying whether that's good or bad, but that it just changes everything.

As a wife, I am shocked that one wife would even think that "maybe" I will go with all you guys. There are some interesting dynamics going on here and where to stay-- with or without her --is not the issue. The facts that a) she hints that she will jump in the guy's trip and b) that he is letting her play her game of pretending not being sure if she is going or not ---those jump right out at me.

Just calling it as I see it.

It really comes down to how much he values $500. What I mean by that is $500 may be valued very different by someone earning $60,000 a year or a couple million a year, especially when he is doing it to make the wife happy. In general, Wynn is definitely a step above Paris. I would not consider that step to be worth $500. For my personal value system, I would consider paying $100 or $200 more per night at most.

I agree with the sentiments here... just like in all types of design work, there are trade offs you have to employ. Is the extra $500 spent on things (like food & drink, shows, gambling) other than accommodations going to make this trip extra? Or is the upgrade in accommodations going to give you that feeling of high rolling Vegas style more important? It really depends on OP and possibility of better half coming along. For me if the extra $500 has to go to only either one, I will always pick the extra on food & drink and other frivolities :)

The correct answer is : it depends.
We usually stay for free on the strip.
My wife would never pay for a room knowing we can stay for free.
Due to no comps at cosmo I had to fight hard to convince her to pay for 2 nights at the cosmo which cost > $500 and 2 nights for free at cet.
Now she is willing to do the same next trip. 2 free nights at cet and pay for 2 nights at cosmo.
With that said, we stayed for free at the Wynn but it wasn't for us and we wont stay there again even if free.
Thus my answer being it depends.

Seems to me that the many responses to this thread are proof positive that there is a place in Las Vegas for almost every taste, sensibility and budget. The beauty of the place is that we’re all happy there, whichever place we choose, and we’re happy that everyone else is enjoying themselves too. No one is right, and no one is wrong. That almost every hotel and casino has advocates and detractors proves the broad appeal of the many choices and something for everyone spectrum of our favorite getaway city.

My wife would definitely rather have $500 added to our gambling or fancy food budget.

    100% true.

Sometimes folks forget that and say things like:

You will LOVE staying at ____ (vs. saying we stayed at ___ and loved it becuase___)
You will LOVE eating at ____
It is totally worth the extra cost to stay at _____
xxxx show is worthless or xxxx show is the only worth going to.

The reality is different people like different things.

Wynn, Circus Circus, off strip, DT, and even non casino hotels all are doing just fine.

Same with the endless number of restaurants and bars.

    Well said!
There are so many posts saying “Should I stay here or there”?
“Should I eat at restaurant A or B”
Sometimes a vmb poster will get flamed for giving an opinion that may not be so popular.
No opinions are right or wrong.
