Vegas May be Over

3 days in Sin City maybe the last, went to Belligio, GN, PH, MGM, The Park have not seen one hand pay, (no high limit areas). Borgota is much closer with a flight under 1 1/2 hours, and at least I can see other people winning. The only thing left is the guys weekend for the opening week of football every year.

 

Sorry to hear that, I had thought about it also one time when I was getting slaughtered then I realized, as much as I love AC, Vegas is on another level. Hopefully your luck turns!

 

May be just coincidence but our friends who've been visiting Vegas 2-3 times a year since the 1970's just got back from a 4-night stay at NYNY mentioned that this was the first trip ever where they did not see a single hand pay.

 

I always say to myself if Vegas shoots itself in the foot, it's on them, not us.

 

Come to the Golden Gate. Every single day i have been at work I have seen a hand pay and every day im off work i get emails about going out to the floor to greet a hand pay.

 

Anecdotal "evidence" abounds for doing something or not doing something, and it also can be called rationalization and justification.

Hey, none of us likes to get hammered into submission and we mentally and emotionally want to see some "victories" along the way in what is ultimately a long-term losing proposition. But Caesars and MGM and Boyd aren't sitting in the back room throwing switches willy-nilly, it's just the nature of the beast.

It needs to be FUN. As should every vacation. By all means if it is not fun, stop.

 

Also keep in mind, one is not always going to witness handpays happen. While it's a good sign that people are "winning", you're not guaranteed to witness this every time you are in a casino, in any casino.

As for personal experience, you win some, you lose some, that's just how the ball rolls.

As as @ken2v mentioned - there aren't execs sitting up in offices flipping switches to "alter your luck". It is far too time-consuming a process, gaming commission and possibly IT would get involved, a section of the floor would be down while this occurred, among other things, it's a massive waste of time.

l know lots play smaller bets and lots bigger bets but If we presume the average person puts in a $100 bill and plays $3.00 a hand pay of $1200 should be quite regular , but some people go to vegas for years and never get one ,

I was in Bally's 2 years ago and for a full 7 days l only saw 1 hand pay and didnt hit 1 decent win the whole week.

The slots aren't set at the 80% or whatever it does be mentioned to be IMO .

 

This is a great point! My in-laws go to Vegas and SD-area casinos a lot, and when they aren't winning, they point to "them" not letting people win, whether it's economic conditions, or other things going on. Not taking into account random chance. This relates to anything involving people, where their limited personal observations are weighed much more heavily than data. (it snowed at my house, therefore climate change is a hoax).

For the OP, I'd recommend switching it up a little in terms of what you see and do in Vegas. I used to get bent out of shape about losing, but then expanded to more strip walking, trying new places to eat, enjoying the overall area. But I hear ya, losing does suck!

 

To the 'anecdotal evidence' point. I literally live in conversations about peoples confirmation bias.
- " I don't put the card in because you let me when more when your not tracking me "
- " Did you roll back all these machines since last night? "
- " Last time I came here it was so loose but it seems like you guys really tightened up the machines. "

I always imagine this army of additional employees no one ever sees changing the RNG minute by minute and the gaming commision shredding all the paperwork allowing them to do so. Also if a casino is going to cheat you directly and in the open then they are definitely going to lose your business over the one that doesn't.

I do wonder about cruise ships though with all that casino downtime and being out in lawless waters etc.. But i assume the same has to likely be true. Wouldn't it come to bear they are cheating and wouldn't people just choose the non cheating cruise. Im likely overthinking it all i just think cheating would be a death knell.

 

I just had “that kind of trip” 2 weeks ago. The first day I was able to tread water on the slots but as a whole trip, the slots were very stingy. From 50 cent bets to the high limit room at Cosmo, never got any decent hits any very few bonuses. The good parts of the trip were the weather, the good meals I had- Mon Ami, China Poblano, Gordon Ramsay Steak, and the horse racing bets. Those far outweighed the crappy gambling.
It’s impossible to be in a bad mood in Vegas because, well- its Vegas.

I talked with a few people on this cruise we just went on, our first. Got talking about Vegas. They're gamblers, we're not. And they felt they were comped well on the cruises. They were cutting back or even cutting out Vegas trips based on that alone. It was a lot of, well I don't really win much but I'm fully comped and I enjoy the cruise. In their mind it was worth it to keep cruising and gambling on the ship. I'm not saying they are right. But, the bottom line is perceived value. In their mind, they were getting something they valued out of gambling on the cruise. And they felt they were not getting something they valued out of gambling in Vegas. Whether that value is in "wins" or comps...that's up to the individual. I hope I have expressed myself correctly.

 

Lola hit it, that whole "value" thing that's woven into the foundation of so many threads around here.

 

Are you sure about the moon landing? With some magnification, you can see Caesar's Palace in the background. LOL, just kidding.

 

I must agree! Went to LV last week of October and was NEVER ahead! Lost in Blackjack big and on the slots! Just didn't feel it. I think I may make my gambling trips to the Beau Rivage in Biloxi - 30 minute flight and great hotel and casino!

 

I think everyone on this thread has proven the point that slots is the worst form of gambling.
If i play slots it is 30/40 cents a pull. Strictly for entertainment.
Poker is the game you want to master. Easier taking money from drunks and newbies.

 

Hence my aversion to slots. You have NO idea what the edge is and then how much of whatever "advantage" exists for a player is tied into the once-in-a-lifetime occurrence? They might be rote, but that's one of the things I like about VP and BJ. Sure, you can have some monumental swoons, but you know right up front what kind of current you're bucking.

 

I have not had a hand pay in vegas at all in 10ish trips.

I can't wait for my next trip.

Vegas, I will never be over you.
