Legal Marijuana in Las Vegas/Nevada - What happens next?

I wonder what the casino managers are thinking right now:

1). Cool, people will be even stupider, so we'll win more

or

2). Crap, people are never going to leave their hotel rooms (except to get more Cheetos)!

 

For years I always believed that the casino managers loved giving away free drinks because it was cost-effective. Relaxed and buzzed players mean more playing and more profit. In recent years I think more managers are considering beverage service as yet another annoying cost center.

I would THINK that casino managers would be smart enough to think that very mellow and laid-back players, who acquire said state on their own dime (LOL, pun not intended), would be to their advantage. I would think so anyway.

Maybe it's time to bring back mini-bars, from a hotel management standpoint, that is. Stoned people might be more likely to just say {f-bomb} it and pay 10 times list price for munchies!

 

I'm guessing the impact on gaming will be negligible. Anyone who is a die-hard smoker is probably already smoking on their Vegas trip.

My concern is making it easier for people who were scared. Not sure we want everyone on pot.

 

thats one off the reaons they hoped it passed for the tourisism dollars and i agree. my friend is one off the people holding a spot, one he can open on the strip for a coffee shop, lounges wont happen till i say 2019 becuase of permites.

the next thing will be making brothell or prostitution in a regulated area in the las vegas strip , like the red light in amsterdam

I think another big barrier to casino's allowing pot smoking is the legal threat of 2nd hand pot smoking. Currently there are not enough studies showing the effect of 2nd hand smoke and some people would worry about testing positive for pot after sitting next to a pot smoker for hours, while this threat looks to be almost zero, perception is realty. I am sure they also want to see what liabilities they could face in a court trail about allowing someone to lose while high. It is one thing if a person got high outside of the casino and another thing if the casino is selling or allowing the process to happen in their presence. Which court what hear the case State or Federal? Casinos HATE gambles.

Yes, it is widespread. And there is still a large swatch of the population that does not want partake due to laws, and the difficulty for a regular person to buy any "stuff". Make it legal, and folks will be jumping on it.

 

I'm not sure about this. If and when it's socially acceptable, I expect people to smoke in public,rather than vape, for the same reason that people enjoy fine wines and cigars when they could ostensibly accomplish the same thing with a half shot of Everclear and a nicoderm patch. People are beginning to cultivate an appreciation for strains of marijuana. In fact, The cannabist website features reviews of new varietals of marijuana.

Question 2 prohibits consumption in any public place. I don't know if that includes casinos but I have a feeling that it does.

 

the law prohibits smoking anywere but in a private residence. people arent goint to light up in casino now or ever when u can vape and casinos are federal so its not happing

 

Aren't they regulated by the Nevada Gaming Control Board? If there were a federal gaming commission, we would likely have gambling in all 50 states.

It sure isn't very noticeable in my experience, rarely have I smelled weed anywhere in Vegas, although I suppose there are plenty of places you wouldn't have to walk too far to find some privacy, maybe you just have to go looking.

Ive stayed at Aria multiple times both before and after the smoking ban in the rooms and on each trip I've walked down corridors and smelled the sweet tang of Ganja , sometimes even wafting throught the ventilation systems into my room. So much so I called down to advise it wasnt me smoking in the room it was coming from the ventilation system

 

Ditto. It always smells like weed smoke in the hallways in Vegas lol.

 

Some stuff is County. Some stuff is State. Some stuff is Casino Board. In particular, MJ is still considered an illegal drug in the eyes of the fed.
