I acquired the WinPoker app for my phone last year from the Apple store, and I have found it extremely helpful in learning "proper play" on several different VP games.
I recommended it to a friend, and she was not able to find it in the Apple store. I looked as well, and sure enough, it was no longer available.
Does anybody know if they've changed distribution methods, or whether it's still available for I-phones today?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Oh no! Hoping it's just a version update or something similar that caused the disappearance... that's perhaps the best video poker app ever to exist :(

I deal with iOS development and Apple did warn developers late last year that apps not updated in a significant amount of time could be removed from the App Store, if they were not updated. I can’t remember the last time WinPoker was updated. Maybe that is why it is gone now.

The last version for iPhone was v2.32 Build 52819-01. I recall that the app was updated a few years ago, after someone from the board contacted the developer about fixing some bugs in the app when a new version of iOS was released back then. I couldn't find that old post on the board, but it also sounded like the developer was reluctant to continue supporting the app. I also checked their website and it looks like the only version of WinPoker currently available is for Windows PC with no mention of any iPhone app.

Yeah. I contacted him when he stopped supporting the iPad app that I had paid for. He gave me a code to download the iPhone version for free (that was very nice of him) but he had expressed at the time frustration with keeping up with needed changes. I plan on upgrading my new iPhone soon, hoping it will still transfer over as it’s still “live” on my current device. I use it mainly to analyze hands now that I can play for real in Connecticut on the sportsbook apps. (8/5 BP for 25¢ min…was just in Jersey was 7/5 there).

Mine transferred fine. I ran into trouble getting it on my new iPad. For some reason it’s the phone version so it annoyingly doesn’t fit the device.

Just updating on this. I’m “converting” one of my friends to video poker, and was telling him about the different ways to learn strategy. I knew WinPoker might not be available anymore based on this thread, but I had him search for it anyway on the App Store on his iPhone… and it turns out that it’s not only still available, but it’s FREE now! Though “unsupported”. I respect that distinction and how it could be important from an app developer perspective. But in the years I’ve been using this app I’ve never once needed support or an update. It’s an extremely useful tool all by itself.

Hopefully this helps out the OP and some others :)

In order to develop for iOS you have to have a Mac and that may not necessarily be feasible. The Play Perfect apps support more games but are notably “uglier” than WinPoker, which is a good balance of features and aesthetic.

Thanks for posting! I found out I’ve been playing 6/5 bonus incorrectly. I always thought you help an open ended straight over a low pair. I learned BP and DDB on the wizard of odds training which is full pay. I wonder how many other bad habits I have.

I just upgraded to an iPhone 14. All my apps transferred except WinPoker that I had purchased for my prior iPhone. I can't find WinPoker in the App Store. Is there a trick to finding it besides searching for Winpoker?

It's not available from the app store per a previous post.

Did you do a backup from your old iPhone and use that to setup your current or use that fancy transfer barcode to do the process?

The rep in the Verizon store did the transfer. When I noticed WinPoker was not on the new phone, he said it was no longer available. I asked why it couldn't be transferred as both phones had the same version of iOS. He didn't know. I've not found a way to transfer a single app without going through the App Store. I still have WinPoker on the old phone, but I won't carry both phones to casinos. I also have WinPoker on my Windows laptop and my iPAD. For my new iPhone, I guess I'll start using the Perfect VP app more. It's good for advice mode for a given dealt hand. For practicing a game, I can do that in a hotel room or at home on my laptop or iPAD.

I would think it is not so much the iPhone but the version of iOS you are on. I have had several apps stop working on various upgrades. WinPoker still works on 16.1.1

Nope. It still works on my old iPhone that has the same OS as my new one: 16.4.1 (although that will be upgraded shortly). The problem is not with the phone. The problem is the app is no longer in the App Store because Dean Zamzow doesn't want to maintain it anymore. Unfortunately, the only way to put an app on an iPhone is through the App Store.

You may need to redo the transfer yourself using Quick Start.

I have an app for work that is no longer available that I deleted trying to get the notifications to work correctly. I ended up redoing the Quick Start phone to phone transfer and it restored the missing app. I don't remember if I had to wipe the new phone before doing the transfer though, but I would try it without wiping first.

Also, any changes you made to your new phone may be reverted and/or messages maybe removed as well.

I found my original copy of the PC version, but no longer have a PC with a disc drive to read it. Thinking maybe i pick up an external drive and see if I can get this working again. I have heard Bob Dancer say on the GWAE podcast that this may be the only way left to access WinPoker, is an old working copy.
