Just got back last night. The amount of people on scooters as well as the lower-tier quality of a significant portion of the tourists was absolutely insane. I told one of my friends in the Venetian that it was like Walmart closed down and everyone came to Vegas instead.

Never mind the virus, this behavior/atmosphere (scooter renegades and trash) causes me to pass on a visit in 2020. I go to Vegas alone and have always felt so comfortable enjoying my vacation. This has my blood pressure rocketing right here from my couch. Sounds like security really needs to get a handle on this. How dare these idiots run rampant.

If this really gets your blood pressure up, I would consult a doctor.

In a depressed city like Las Vegas, it's a toss up between letting these guys run wild, or lose their revenue. While I was at The D, two suits came in to high limit to look at the scooters, but decided not to make them leave because the group was hitting jackpots at the Top Dollar machines in the back.

I've always felt that security on the Strip is pretty terrible anyway - the types of people and behavior I saw this week just made that spotlight shine brighter.

It really isn’t new but likely more apparent because of the lack of ‘normal’ older people who don’t dare visit yet (me....).

When I discussed the scooters with the owner of the company that provided CET about 4 years ago (not sure if same company today), he started just talking away. He was so upset because he had to go to the Strip the middle of the night before & pick up multiple scooters that young jerks had left abandoned on the overpasses & other random places when the batteries died. He said at that point the kids (his term) rented them, raced them, abused them etc. Sometimes they get a call telling them where it is, other times he said they have to wait for cops or security to call them & let them know. They end up charging a lot of the credit cards used for deposit for hefty damages. He talked for about 20 minutes or more-he just needed someone to vent to!!! (I had called trying to see if they would have a scooter ‘chair’ vs a regular or go-go scooter if I brought mom back. But never got to do that trip.).

Now with more wide open areas, it’s way more tempting for these idiots I’m sure.

So sad to think that for someone that REALLY needs it the scooters would be all rented out to these assholes.

Were you staying at Venetian, or at least enjoying some of your time there? If so, did you find yourself more comfortable there relative to mid-Strip and that you had to worry less about getting in the way of scooter races?

No, I was staying at Bellagio. It just so happens that a lot of the restaurants I like are at the Venetian. And with the Grand Canal shops I just enjoy walking around a lot. Had to do a lot more of that walking this time since Mirage, PH and Bally's were still closed, and because I wanted to slow down the losing. Plus, Venetian was the one casino where I actually had success with the slots this trip. Lost every place else. Despite my qualms with many of the people, I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. Didn't mean for it to sound like the topic of this thread significantly impacted that, because it didn't. Hell, I'm already planning my next trip.

Just borrowing this story from a different thread. Took place at Cosmo. Most shocking and appalling mobility scooter report yet. The part in bold was my own emphasis.

I agree with Ol Hoag. It is amazing how many of the scooters we saw while there. I can't imagine a bunch of 20 somethings driving scooters around Vegas like they own the town is a good solution for saving the casinos.

Lots-o-trash in town right now. You're going to need a high tolerance level right now if you visit.

    ******bags gotta ******.

I'm not making excuses for the scooter "craze". But if groups of 4, 5, 6, 8 or whatever number are able to rent that many scooters, there obviously isn't the demand right now because people who actually need them for health reasons are smart enough to stay during Coronapalooza. And the scooter companies need revenue like everybody else.

I've seen PLENTY of non-scooting drunks in Vegas being just as obnoxious.

As far as the kid left in the elevator, that's inexcusable. But there's no way I just hand her off to anyone else. Because I KNOW I will get her back to her floor and get her to security if her parents aren't waiting outside that elevator when we get to her floor. I don't know how anyone else would handle that situation.

And as much as I like Vegas, I've always found the strip and downtown to be amongst the "trashiest", "shiftiest", "uncouth", choose your word, tourist destinations in the USA. But hey, no matter who you are, what you do, and how you dress, there's going to be someone looking down on you too.

As long as your mask doesn't have a hole in it, you do you I guess.

I was astonished when I read that about the child. Both that the parents would leave the kid and that the other individual who was on the elevator with her would let her ride back down with other strangers!

Fort Lauderdale banned scooters in the beach area and along the retail/restaurant area of Las Olas Blvd. in February. Too many inconsiderate a-holes, too much mayhem. Good!

Funny that other people have noticed this. I was there this past weekend and group of these asshats went by us and yelled at my wife and I for getting in their way.
