Follow up on the Shooting at Stage Door in September:
    https://www.reviewjournal.com/crime/shootings/suspects-in-off-strip-shooting-also-at-site-of-gunfire-near-party-bus-2158597/

Multiple people charged in connection with a Sept. 26 shooting near the Strip were part of a group on a party bus that was involved in a nearby separate shooting that morning, according to arrest reports.

About 2 a.m. Sept. 26, a fight began between two women on a party bus in a parking lot on the 300 block of East Tropicana Avenue. The fight left the bus, when one of the women was allegedly shot by a 26-year-old man, the Metropolitan Police Department has said.

An hour and a half later, police were called to a shooting in the parking lot of the Stage Door Casino, 4000 Linq Lane, about 2½ miles from the first shooting.

Video surveillance showed that “numerous suspects” who were at the first shooting were also at the Stage Door Casino. Police believe about 15 suspects were involved in the shooting at the bar and liquor store, during which three people were shot, according to arrest reports.

The eight men have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, eight counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, three counts of battery with a deadly weapon, and 21 counts of discharging a gun within a structure or at an occupied structure or vehicle, court records show.

Those on the party bus who were at both shootings were “part of a large group” visiting from Fresno, California, for a birthday party, according to arrest reports.

Hey, just a reminder as we head into this Halloween/Nevada Day weekend, to keep safety in mind. Things are a little tense in this world right now and with the uptick in violence in the tourist corridors, I thought it might not be a terrible idea to remind people that Vegas is a major metropolitan area and things can and sometimes do happen. Remember to keep yourself safe!
    • Be aware of your surroundings.
    • Keep your head on a swivel.
    • If something looks like it could be trouble, best to just move on.
    • Be careful with the alcohol. Be sure you remain in charge of your faculties.
    • Try to avoid being alone in a dark area, try to stick to the main traffic areas.
If you're got any safety tips you think I should add here, please send me a PM and I'll add good ones to the list.

    Safety first! :)

    Shooting in Tropicana Parking

Police were called about 12:10 p.m. to the Tropicana, 3801 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Ken Nogle said. Investigators believe two men met in the casino parking lot for a drug deal, which led to the men shooting at each other.

At least one man was shot and was at the scene when police arrived. He was hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The other man fled the area, and police were still searching for him as of 12:50 p.m., Nogle said. It was unclear if the man who fled was also injured.

Police Investigate Gunshots at TI Last Night:
    https://www.reviewjournal.com/crime/gunshot-at-ti-on-las-vegas-strip-forces-evacuation-of-guests-2211904/

A gunshot at the Treasure Island resort on the Las Vegas Strip early Thursday forced the evacuation of dozens of guests for hours before investigators determined there was no threat.

Police said at 12:34 a.m. a security officer heard “a gunshot from a hotel room.” Police and hotel then evacuated several floors at the property, leaving guests to wait on the casino floor as police investigated the shooting.

Officer Larry Hadfield, a spokesman for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, later stated that the gunshot occurred when a man committed suicide in a room at the hotel.

“It is resolved,” Hadfield said at 7:30 a.m. “SWAT responded, entered the room and located a male deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

It was not immediately clear whether the man was a guest at the hotel or someone who gained access to the room.

    Frustrated evacuees

Tourists Jon and Caitlyn Key are from the Waco, Texas, area, and are staying at the Treasure Island. They said at about 2:30 a.m. they started receiving phone calls in their room, then knocks on their door, from hotel employees and police informing them they had to evacuate. They emerged from their room and saw “a whole bunch of armed officers in the hallway.”

“It was very scary,” Caitlyn Key said.

The husband and wife sat for nearly three hours in the casino, near the elevator, waiting to get back to their room. They were eventually told police were investigating a suicide.

“We are trying to get our stuff, trying to catch a flight,” said Jon Key.

By 6:30 a.m., hotel employees brought the couple some of their belongings. Instead of returning to the room they simply left and headed to the airport to catch a flight.

“We were never let back in,” Caitlyn Key said. “… (We’re) leaving for airport now.”

Donald Thompson of Wisconsin said he was on the casino floor with his girlfriend at roughly 1 a.m. “when we were informed there was an incident.”

He was then told that his room on the 34th floor was no longer accessible because of security reasons. He was not told why.

“They changed my room to a floor that was accessible,” Thompson said.

He and his girlfriend went to the new room, then Thompson went back downstairs briefly, only to be informed that the entire elevator system was now locked down for security reasons. As a result, he spent hours in the casino waiting to get back to his new room.

“My girlfriend is up in our new room and here I am waiting to be allowed back up,” Thompson said as he stood in the valet area of the property.

Tourist Tiffany Brown of New York said her room was on the 36th floor. She had a similar experience with police and security knocking on her door, telling her to evacuate.

“All they said is it’s someone with a gun,” Brown said. “The police said ‘evacuate’ with their guns out.”

She spent hours in the casino, near the elevators, waiting to get back to her room.

“Give me another room or give me my money back,” Brown said. “I’m afraid.”

One Person Killed in Shooting at Stratosphere
    https://www.ktnv.com/news/crime/las-vegas-police-investigate-homicide-at-strat-hotel-casino

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred in a hotel room at The STRAT hotel-casino late Friday night.

Police said they responded to the property at around 10 p.m. with reports of a man shot in one of the guest room towers.

Several people were at a birthday party in one of the hotel rooms when a fight broke out and a shooting took place, according to authorities.

Those in the group took off after the incident and a man in his 30s was killed in the room.

LVMPD Lt. Ray Spencer says no immediate arrests were made and officers were reviewing surveillance footage at the property with an investigation ongoing.

Not Vegas, but thought I should include this one anyway, as Laughlin could be considered a "tourist area".

Woman Wounded in Shooting at Laughlin Casino:
    https://www.reviewjournal.com/crime/shootings/woman-wounded-in-shooting-at-laughlin-casino-2227107/

A woman is recovering from a gunshot wound at an Arizona hospital and her boyfriend is in police custody after a shooting Sunday morning at a Laughlin casino, Las Vegas police said.

The shooting was reported just after 7:20 a.m. at the Aquarius Casino, Las Vegas Police Lt. Brian Boxler said. Officers were notified by the Bullhead City Police Department of the victim at the hospital.

The shooting occurred during a struggle inside a room at the casino. Her boyfriend, who was inside the room at the time, was taken into custody by officers without incident, Boxler said.

Not sure if this is exactly the place for this, but I've also included it in the COVID Sticky.

Las Vegas Police Discuss New Year's Eve Preparations:
    https://www.reviewjournal.com/local/local-las-vegas/las-vegas-police-discuss-new-years-eve-preparations-2235077/

Las Vegas police are urging the public to follow COVID-19 safety precautions on New Year’s Eve and to be on alert for suspicious activity in light of the Christmas Day explosion in downtown Nashville, Tennessee.

Deputy Chief Kelly McMahill of the Metropolitan Police Department, Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft, Las Vegas City Councilwoman Michele Fiore, Clark County Deputy Fire Chief Warren Whitney and Switch Senior Vice President Betsy Fretwell discussed preparations Tuesday during a media briefing at Rob Roy’s Innevation Center.

McMahill said masks and social distancing are important, considering hospitals in Southern Nevada are nearing capacity because of COVID-19, and Naft urged people to celebrate at home.

“I want to personally and very directly ask the members of our community to keep our medical personnel in mind as you celebrate this year,” Naft said. “We’re going to throw the biggest party the world has ever seen next year, but this year we want to support our economy, we want to make sure that everybody is able to celebrate in their own way, but for this year do it with your close friends and family.”

The Strip will not have its annual New Year’s Eve fireworks show this year, but other spots across town have announced plans for midnight celebrations.

Fremont Street will not have live entertainment, but the SlotZilla zip line will be open and the Plaza will have a fireworks show on its rooftop that will be broadcast on local TV, though there will not be public viewing areas.

McMahill said the department could not provide an accurate estimate for this year’s expected attendance on the Strip but said her “guesstimate” would be 200,000. Last year, more than 300,000 visitors packed downtown Las Vegas and the resort corridor, officials estimated.

Meanwhile, health officials have expressed concern over Fremont Street Experience preparing to have as many as 14,000 attendees on New Year’s Eve amid the pandemic.

McMahill said Metro will have a prominent presence at public spaces, with about 1,200 officers on the Strip and about 200 downtown, even though there will be fewer public events and gatherings.

Following the explosion in Nashville on the morning of Dec. 25, McMahill said police are asking for the public’s help in reporting any suspicious behavior to law enforcement. Police will continue doing sweeps of the Strip and downtown in the days leading up to New Year’s Eve. Bags larger than 12 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches will not be allowed, and neither will luggage or strollers.

Las Vegas Boulevard will be closed from Mandalay Bay to Spring Mountain Road beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, McMahill said.

McMahill added that with the limited public gathering spaces, Metro is anticipating more parties at short-term rental properties. She said there has been an uptick in violent parties at these properties and that Metro will have an increased presence seeking out such events on New Year’s Eve.

“It’s very important, especially in light of what we just saw happen in Nashville,” McMahill said. “We’re very focused on keeping people safe.”
