So that's why there is a shortage of tuna!

I actually prefer chunk light tuna in water (for calorie reasons) to solid white albacore. Kinda the same reason I prefer a chicken leg or thigh to a breast... juicier and more flavor. My wife calls it cat food.

That is some serious tuna. Is that imported from Italy?

    Albacore in water ONLY........for me.
My wife got a bunch of " Chunk" on sale.......still in the pantry !
    .
I squeeze the water out of the can upon opening the lid - I push the lid down into the bottom of the can.
The consistency of the chunk.....is very mushy......and just oozes out around the pressed
in lid,.......and I never get it somewhat dry,
The albacore isn't mushy and stays in one piece......I get it relatively dry.
That's a big difference for me.

Now that I am working from home for at least the first trimester, I'll probably have a tuna salad every day for lunch... Good for weight loss!

I sometimes mix light and solid as solid can be a bit dry.
Light/skipjack has less mercury than most of the other tuna varieties in addition to better price.

For the past decade, canned fish is something I like to bring home from vacations. I have one tuna and 2 sardines still left from a Portugal trip, have finished all the Hungarian and Romanian fish I had from a Black Sea cruise....

I think I prefer start kist, but whatever is on sale is fine.
On a side note, I do have a strong preference on canned salmon.
I like the Sam's club members mark brand.

Ahi or throw it in the trash. Canned tuna is for Cats, Rare Ahi Tuna is for JPW.

Ahh..Salmon patties. Another staple of my childhood that I still like. Stink up the house for days. My brother still gags when he smells them.

I always get solid white packed in water ... but after reading some of your reponses, I might try solid white packed in oil.

The type of tuna that I buy depends on what I'm making. For tuna salad sandwiches, I just buy one of the popular brands (Starkist, Chicken of the Sea, Bumble Bee, etc.) when it's on sale, usually the chunk light in water. By the time you throw in the mayo, celery, and whatnot, most of the brands taste the same. LOL

I use a good quality Albacore, if I need the tuna to be in chunks and not "mush" like the chunk light variety. I use the fresh/premium grade Ahi tuna for sashimi.

Usually Trader Joe's Skipjack, packed in water-can't stand the oil either.
Add some onion, Miracle Whip, and a few drops of balsamic vinegar. Marvelous!

since I can't stand mayo, I don't really eat tuna as it is somewhat dry on it's own. The only time we eat tuna is when we go backpacking as the solid white in the sealed foil packs are lightweight and good protein when doing long hikes. Helps cut down on the pack weight and easy to carry

Can't beat those salmon patties fried in oil with some stone ground mustard along with some french fries.
