Oh yeah, she gets whatever it is that is promised. It's usually 3 days/2 nights somewhere. Heaven help anyone who denies her. I don't know what her average time investment is but it wouldn't be a shock if it's more than it should be. She and dad are in their early 80s and comfortably retired. She had a very, very impoverished childhood that she's never let go of and you don't get in between her and anything she considers as a decent deal, whether it's a waste of time or not. Anyhow, she's old and she gets together with some of her old maid friends and they like to go out and do this kind of crap. Gets 'em outta the house.

Intelligent people aren't immune from potentially bonehead purchases (though they may have gotten a killer deal). They're human, too.

"Because I hate making the payments on my house and car."

Oh, I'd enjoy that. My wife says I'm the biggest jerkass she's ever known.

So you paid $12k up front and still have to pay $1000 a year to stand ~ a month in a deluxe apartment, in Vegas??
Seems like an AirB&B would be a cheaper way to go...
Unless you did it for 12 years straight; then at $2000 a month it may be a breakeven.

People carry 20+% interest month-to-month on credit cards. Some gamble when they don't have a pot to piss in. Some chase comps under the rationalization that it is free. Lotsa ways to make "bad" decisions out there.

A timeshare penciling, like everything else, is what it cost and what it costs to carry, how it can/will be used, the joy it does (or does not) bring. The math is pretty simple. It's not a default "bad" decision.

Swarthmore is one of the top ranked colleges in the USA and my brother in law used to roll these atudents all the time at local bars. Common sense and education are often mutually exclusive.

I believe the rule is that they cannot approach a player that is gambling. I'm sure the casino would bounce them really fast if that happens. Luxor has a timeshare set up right in their casino. Not 10' away from the slot machines. I walked by once to play a King of Cash slot right next to their booth. The TS Lady became wide eyed as I approached her. She said "Good Morning Sir!" I said it back and then sat my fat ass down to play. And she didnt say anything more.

So they can enter a casino to sell you, no doubt about that!

They have timeshares in Wisconsin? Would that be on a deluxe double-wide trailer? And do the maintenance fees include keeping your timeshares tires full of air?

    Signed, a Chicagoan...

This. I have friends who, like @Corinne, are perfectly happy with their timeshare and make the most of it every year. If the numbers work and it fits your lifestyle and vacation goals, then hey, why not?

Once back in the early 2000s I was playing a machine at Tropicana and they hit on me, solo, while playing.

I own two Timeshares one in Aruba and another in Ft. Lauderdale. I'm not married and when I'm in Vegas they never bother me because I'm usually with my male friends or my GF we just say we're not married and keep walking. I don't know what the real problem is, don't stop just keep walking.
BTW, I've traded to the Marriott Grand Chateau across form Planet Hollywood and put up my friends there on a couple trips.

I said it was a rule, and not a law. These pimps skirts many rules I'm sure. I dont think I have seen any Timeshare people at the Tropicana these days. Maybe I missed them, or they got thrown out for bugging you!

Cracks me every time. They are good. My dad somehow ended up with two timeshares so I learn from his lesson.

Those timeshare people are so extremely friendly until they know you’re a nogo. Cracks me up.

Yeah...if it was something I could do on a lame and boring Saturday here at home or something, then I might give it a try just for the shits and giggles. No way am I wasting my valuable Vegas vacation time -- which I look forward to basically every minute that I'm not in Vegas -- dealing with a high-pressure timeshare sales presentation.

I try not to be rude, though. I mean, I know they are just people trying to make a living. I worked as a telemarketer as a teenager, so I get it haha. I usually just say "no thank you." My husband usually says "we're leaving today" or "we live here."

Also, for those who are actually interested in a timeshare, you can buy them VERY cheap on eBay.
