A little before 6:00 tonight I was crossing the Flamingo Rd overpass from Bellagio to Caesars. Out of the corner of my eye I spied two women on scooters heading west from the strip on Flamingo. I have seen people get stuck in the road there because of the fences, so I assumed they were confused and scared.

So I decided to see the race to the Caesars Palace seven stars valet entrance. They did not make it before traffic caught up to them, but thankfully the drivers saw them. But then the plot thickened...they just kept going down the right lane without turning to safety.

After lot's of honking they did get on the sidewalk after passing Caesars. I hope they know the Rio is closed. Maybe they were heading to Gold Coast or the Terrible's Chevron?

Also particularly dangerous because the sun was in the drivers' eyes. I couldn't see the phone screen while taking pictures.

Some say they're halfway to the Pacific.

They really have to do something about all of those scooters on the Strip. It's absurd. There are people that need them (like my husband who can't make it from the parking lot to the Strip anymore without a scooter) but on the Strip you have able-bodied kids just renting them for kicks. Someone's going to get hurt.

It's apparently a hoot to take the scooters up and down the escalators. I saw people riding their scooters on the Bellagio escalators 3 separate times last week. Is it just ol' fuddy duddy me, or could that be dangerous?

I am pretty sure that is against the rules listed in the user guide they read and signed when they picked up the scooter

Seriously, a clearer picture of the perpetrators would have been helpful. Insight to see if there was only one minion on the back of each scooter and one sprinting alongside / running interference with cross-traffic. So next opportunity let's focus, not just shoot off a couple of frames. Seriously. :woohoo:

I have read this three times and not sure what the issue or comment is.

The pictures were clear. If someone wanted to run down to the street for better then could... but why?

You could see around them quite well and nobody was running alongside.

    Color me confused...???

I'm young, I love risks, I gamble. But... scooters on the escalators? Those big red ones? How!!??? Do you just ramp up and then hold on tight to the siderails and don't let go? This is a gamble someone will lose, ASAP. Specially seasoned gummies above made me laugh, but its true.

Your subject line made a light bulb go on over my head. Like many others I've been absolutely baffled by this recent trend of increased scooter usage on the strip, but there has been a well-documented problem obtaining cabs or ride shares on the strip since reopening. Those scooters would be a "creative" way of getting around under such conditions.

(I'm certainly not excusing the also-well-documented asshole behavior by the scooter riders, nor denying them to people who really need them, but it's the first plausible justification for this bizarre pattern that I've encountered.)

We saw lots of scooters on our two brief visits to the Strip.

Scooters parked while their renters/riders were running up and down steps in the Hershey's store:

    20200805_115007.jpg

I also saw a scooter with a teen on another teen's lap coast right into the heels of a gentleman who'd stepped aside to give a family more distance in the hallway. The teens backed up, turned around and left, leaving man rubbing his heels.

We also encountered an adult racing a maybe 10-year-old, both weaving in/out/around others. Kid yelling, "C'mon, move it!" as he sped by.

I have friends that rely on mobility assistance in their daily lives. It is my hope that folks that really need a scooter to access the area can get one!

@Richard Alpert - are there more scooter riders than pedestrians in your last picture?
