    My Trip Report

Hubby and I do not get to Vegas anymore since I hate the 5 hour flight these days so we just stick to our local casinos and we are lucky enough to have 4 of them within a hour or a little more to our home....

We go to the Mohegan Sun the most since that is only a 40 minute drive from our house up interstate 81..... We also have Hollywood Casino which is close to 55 minute drive heading South on interstate 81 near Harrisburg.... Then we have Mt Airy which is about a hour drive heading up interstate 80 and very close to Mt Pocono.....
Last we have the Sands but now has a new name but do not remember what it is called now and we have only been to there one time and is a little more than a hour drive and did not care for it so never went back

Well we decided to take a over night trip up to the Mohegan this Monday cause it was double status point day....
Left the house around 1 pm and had a nice sunny drive up with not all that much traffic.... Very cold out with the temp around 20 but just a nice day for a drive..

Got up there and checked in to our room.. The rooms are very nice at Mohegan Sun Pocono and had a view of the front entrance and part of the race track although no races going on at this time of the year...

Got settled and then down to the casino we went.. Hubby plays very few machines and mostly plays Black Jack and I am a slots player so we split up and said we would meet for dinner..

I decided to stroll around some and get a little exercise since I do not get out walking all that much in the winter since I got older.. To afraid to walk when snow is on the ground and we had snow and a mix of rain and ice over the weekend so walking around the casino was my exercise...
then it was off to play my Quick Hits and I like the Playboy ones... Max bet is 1.50 a spin on these older machines.. I see they have some new Playboy machines but the max bet is 3.00 and that is a little to rich for my blood unless I had hit pretty big and have lots of extra cash...
My first session on the Playboy machines was awful... My free play was gone without a decent hit at all and then 200 more was gone through with only small hits so after that loss I got up and went looking for something better....
Ended up on the $2 a spin Quick Hits and I love these machines cause if you get 3 mixed QH you win a thousand and if they land on the line it is a 10 thousand win and they post a lot of winners on these machines...
Since it was Martin Luther King day the casino was pretty busy and these machines were pretty full but I found a empty and sat down and hit nothing, no decent hits at all so after a hundred and fifty loss I moved on...

Took a break and had a snack in the food court and walked around till I found a new Moon and Sun machine which I did not really understand cause it was different then the old machines... Played a dollar a spin and hit a bonus pretty fast but only 5 free spins but gee I hit for 60 bucks on those free spins so that was good but then the machine went cold so cashed out the 50 and moved on ...

Finally ended up back on my favorite Playboy QH machines and this time I was hitting the bonus round but the very first bonus round was a lousy 7 spins and I got NOTHING, not one hit on it... I mean I have had lousy bonus rounds but never NOTHING... but then I hit a few good hits in the regular game for even a hundred bucks so stuck on this machine and got a few more bonus rounds and by time I quit to go meet hubby for dinner I was only down $50 bucks which was not bad... At one point I was up 100 but did not hang on to the win for to long.....

We went to the Rustic Kitchen for dinner and this is a nice restaurant they have here and it was pretty busy for a Monday.... had to be the holiday cause Mondays are usually dead as a door nail here....
We both had the spaghetti and meat balls tonight and it was pretty decent...

Afterward it was back to playing and I could not hit a darn thing for the rest of the night... I swear all my money was sucked into the machine so fast without any wins at all... If I hit for a hundred it was gone within 15 minutes and had very few hits .. I walked around and tried many machines with nothing to show for it... Finally at 11 pm I was almost broke and just plain tired of playing with such lousy results that I quit and hubby ran into me.. He had been down but almost won all his bankroll back but still was out a few bucks for the night...

Up to the room we went which was very early for me but like I said I had had it....

Got up the next morning and had breakfast.. We had free coupons for the breakfast sandwich.... Had some free coupons so used it to bring home some food....

Got the car from valet and took a nice drive home and that was another trip under our belts... Not sure when we will stay over again but plan to go up in a few weeks for a few hours visit...

Great write up! That's my local (10 minutes away) and we have stopped going entirely because of exactly what you noticed with the machines. Also the VP is unplayable bad (7/5 Bonus poker where 2 pair pay 1 for 1). We do like Rustic Kitchen and go up for dinner from time to time, but now prefer the 40 minute ride to Mt Airy and the overnight stay. I'd be interested to know how well they treat you comp wise

I'm assuming the up 81 means you're from somewhere south of Wilkes-Barre. I'm not sure how your comps are at Mohegan, but, we have found that our play goes way further at all the other places, and we also love going all the way south to AC. Honestly we find that even with a similar coin-in to what we do in Atlantic City we get next to nothing locally.

    Thanks for the write up!

Wow, that is an eye opener! 83.95%!! Almost hard to believe. Almost any slot machine in Las Vegas will have a better return than that!

Alexm..... thanks for the reply to my trip.... Yes we are south of WB and live below Hazleton ...
I used to love to play down in the old casino till they closed it up... They had a bank of video poker machines down at the end of the room where you entered the Comedy show and I loved to play those... they were so old but hit quite well on them... Right before they took them out I hit a Royal Flush while playing DD Bonus....
Have not played video poker up stairs in quite a few years now, got hung up on the Quick Hits... so spend most of time playing those..

I feel the casinos I go to are not bad with Free Slot play but could be a little better... I play long hours when I stay over night... Usually play from around 2 pm till maybe 1 or 2 am and only take time out for dinner... This last trip I ended up quitting early because just was not hitting anything and was almost out of money... but still ended up playing 8 hours.....
What I do not like about any of the casinos is IF YOU MISS GOING FOR A MONTH THEY DROP YOUR FREE SLOT PLAY DOWN... makes no difference where I go it is the same.. Miss a month or two and down go's the free slot play amount...
I get a decent amount but that is because I play slots.... hubby plays very little slots so gets very little Free slot play ... spends most of his time on the tables...

Out of the 3 casinos we go to I got the most free slot play from Mt Airy... We very seldom get up there anymore though because we do not go that often anymore and rather spend our time at Mohegan Sun.... When we were going a few times month then we hit all 3 casinos but now that I cut back to maybe once or twice a month just stick with MS so can keep my Free slot play up....
I feel Hollywood casino is pretty good with free slot play also but they have no hotel so there for no free rooms so we do not go there but a few times a year anymore...

I had a great host when I was at Mt Airy all the time... like their rooms there also but hated when they took out Mary's diner and put in Guy's... do not care for their breakfast there so was ending up running down to the diner down the road from Mt Airy and not using the breakfast comps I was getting from my host... so stopped staying over there and just went back to staying at MS cause they have good breakfast places to eat...
We loved Mary's diner though at Mt Airy, was a favorite of ours for a good many years.. They have a good buffet to...
Still go to Mt Airy but not as much and never stay over anymore...

Thanks Nancy and you know me, if I win something I usually give it back unless I hit for a big amount.... this trip was a bad one though for hitting much of anything...

@zignerlv Yeah no doubt their VP is really gross. You can get regular 6/5 Bonus at dollars and up.

@Geri I totally understand. Before kids we were playing there at least twice a week 4-6 hours at a clip and I was getting play 50 get 10$ offers. I think maybe they think we are so local that we'll just go regardless of the offers. Our routine used to be 7 days in LV once a year and at least 2 nights a week at Mohegan Sun. The closest I ever came to a decent offer was to go once a week for 4 weeks and get a full set of bamboo cutting boards and serving trays and bowls.

I guess the joke's on them since now we go there almost not at all. Since 2018 we have been to our casino 7 times. We have gone to AC 9 times with another trip forthcoming and have actually spent a night at Mt Airy too.

It's good seeing some other PA folk posting on the board!

Alexm.... we used to go to Vegas once and sometimes twice a year and we also hit Atlantic City about once a month staying first at Bally's and then switched over to the Borgatta when they opened.... We loved the Borg .....
Now we just stick with our local casinos as I said... I just like to stay close to home anymore now that we are up in age...

I get a decent amount of Free play from the MS and then they often throw in a bonus amount so cannot complain... I also like the fact they have a few quite good eating places that I like...
That is what brought me back to MS from Mt Airy....

Yes I agree it is nice to have some other Pa posters

Nice report. Sorry you couldn’t find a winning machine.

Even though we live close to Hollywood Casino we always found MS to have more options and it always felt like a mini getaway to us. Although we go to Vegas and Atlantic City more these days MS is a close easy accessible trip for us.

Again, thanks for sharing your experience.

We've been to Mohegan a couple times. I have had the same result as you. My wife on the other hand won both times. Haven't been down in about 5 years. Went to Parx casino a couple weeks ago and really liked it. I live in NY about an hour north of Binghamton and also have several casinos within a short drive.

FET... thanks for reading my trip report and YES going to MS does feel like a little get a way for us also... Sometimes we just run up for a few hours of play and for something to eat and then sometimes I book us a room for a over night stay...

npom... thank you also for reading my trip report and I did hit 8 QH twice but not for some time now.. Once in awhile I do hit something decent but it seems I am not all that lucky and it does not matter where I play... Never won much out in Vegas or in Atlantic City also..
Glad to hear your wife did good at MS....
