I didn't realize until recently that X% of Y is always the same as Y% of X.

My wife thought for years and years that "astigmatism" was "a stigmatism." She would say, "Todd has a stigmatism," which sounds normal, and follow it up with, "it's a really bad stigmatism."

Never thought that one... but one especially embarrassing misunderstanding for me was Satisfactory. I remember seeing it on my report card in elementary school and thinking it meant I was productive. The way six-year-old NFC thought of it was... Factory = produces things, producing things = productive, "Satis" = probably means something in Latin and is made to be part of this word.

Guess I wasn't "satisfactory" with the word itself o_O

Actually, according to Google Trends, people from New Yawk are far from the worst spellers. :)

The reason is that many of us went to Catholic schools with nuns. They either kept us after school or awarded us with corporal punishment.

I just found out last year how to properly follow quoted messages on a message board.

If someone replies to a quote and you wish you could go back and find out the previous conversation, click on the little arrow beside the previous posters name. For instance just in the post above mine, oghuman is replying to dmr. Click on the arrow beside 'dmr said:' to go back to the previous conversation that they are referring to.

It's not a huge time saver here because we can just scroll back to follow the intent of the conversation. On a fast moving message board with conversations between posters flying fast and furious it really helps to keep the context of a conversation on track between posters.

When I found out about it, I was just surprised I'd never noticed that little arrow before. I've posted on this board for years and never noticed or even knew that feature was available.

Thank you so much for this. :woohoo: You are not the only one who never noticed the arrow.
