How to avoid pissing people off in your first poker tournament...

I personally like being the bad guy/table caption at the table. not taking or acting out of turn but more like sitting down and letting people know I am now in charge of the table. maybe 3 bet my first hand of open raise the first 5 hands. this works much better in cash games then tourneys as u can top off your stack but if you know anything about people you get a great sense of who is going to wait for aces and who is their to adjust and play back immediately. its amazing how much info people will give up the first 5 mins.
