OK, it's not a casino, but it is off strip. Anyone know anything about it? Maybe stayed there and can give me some tips? I've booked two weeks there 3/9-3/23. We aren't going to stay the whole time, but will definitely be there at least 3/15-3/18 for the first and second rounds of March Madness. We've got a one bedroom condo booked, full kitchen. Got a screaming deal through RCI on their "last call vacations." Hotels are so expensive during that period that two weeks at the Grandview was cheaper than 3/15-3/18 at any decent casino.

I see that it's right next to South Point, a property I've wanted to check out for some time. They supposedly have a free March Madness viewing party, so we'll probably give that a chance. We won't have a car (also very expensive for that week).

Any pointers, tips, suggestions? We're very familiar with much of Las Vegas, but have never stayed way south.

Might check out Westie's trip reports. I believe that is
the place he and his wife stay on their trips and then
they play at the South Point. They seem to like it.

I've visited someone in the Grandview while staying at South Point. :wink2: The accommodations are very doable for a week. Nice having the full kitchen though I didn't use it. Bed was comfortable though I thought the carpet needed a proper Bissell cleaning. Very short walk to South Point...no more than from one end of the casino to the other. I believe South Point has a shuttle to the Strip which you should look into as I can't imagine being stuck at the South Point for an entire week.

I haven't stayed there in 3 or 4 years now. The units were starting to get run-down at that time so I have never gone back. It is convenient to South Point though. There's a new timeshare at Silverton called the Berkley. It looks nicer than Grandview (because it's new; they're both from the same company--Vacation Village).

On our first stay a few years, I also thought the place could stand for a refurbishing (nicks in the furniture, stained rug), but on subsequent stays our unit has been just fine. You will receive funbooks at check-in for both the South Point and the Silverton. The room is cleaned midweek and then again at the end of the week, but you can call housekeeping for additional towels and supplies. We particularly like having a washer/dryer so we don't have to bring so many clothes. Parking can be problematic particularly for the Iris tower (closest to the South Point). If you are a smoke, you will be assigned a room on one of the top 3 floors in either the Iris or Primrose towers.

I always feel like I'll miss the daily housekeeping if I stay at that type of property. OTOH, the kitchen is something I would love. Having to go to the Southpoint for fun and excitement is kind of funny when you think about it.

    Westie,

Sounds like you're the expert. If we have a choice, is there a tower (or towers) we should request? How are the pools and fitness center? Looking at your November report, you guys sure get around! I wish cars weren't so awfully expensive for that period, as we're going to have to rely on Uber/Lyft/Shuttle/Bus. Do you know what sort of shuttles they offer at Grandview? Thanks.

Even though parking is a pain and it is one of the oldest towers, the proximity of the Iris tower to the South Point is a plus. I cannot remember the location of the other towers, but ask at the desk since there are others that are close to the casino. I believe the only free shuttle is to the Silverton which runs a regular schedule and I have seen buses stops at the South Point.

I think someone said they're refurbishing the older towers but as you can see from the pictures above, when they built the place, they used formica countertops, cheap white appliances, (and if you open the cabinets and look, the kitchen cabinets are REALLY cheap). Furnishings were pretty cheap too. It's not a bad place but compared to other timeshares in Vegas (like Hilton & Marriott) Grandview is not at the top of the list. One of the good things about Grandview is that a two-bedroom unit is made up of two connected one-bedroom units; so if you bring along another couple with you they get a full one-bedroom unit too. Never seen that anywhere else.

As far others near the Strip, the Holiday Inn Desert Club was a real dump a few years ago, Wyndham Grand Desert really needed the original Towers to be refurbed, Wyndham Desert Blue is nice, and I plan to stay at the Berkley sometime in the next year or so as it looks pretty decent.

Yeah, gotta say the place doesn't look very lux from westie's photos. But we're not picky as long as the place is clean and the bed is comfortable. I got the back-to-back one-bedroom w/kitchen weeks from RCI "Last Call Vacations" for $270 apiece. Considering that's less than the going rate for Friday or Saturday night 3/16 or 3/17 at a number of strip properties, I can cut the place a lot of slack! If you're a college basketball fan, the first four days of March Madness are such a fun time to be in Vegas. I missed it last year but am determined to get there this year. We just need to plan on a pretty big Uber/Lyft budget so we're not stuck at South Point the entire time. Definitely won't get around to all the places westie lists in his November trip report. That's impressive!

Unrelated side note - if you go and you're new to it, take the win/lose bets, not the line bets. There's nothing more frustrating than watching a team that's 6 points ahead stand around and dribble out the last twenty seconds because they don't know or care that the line is 7! Too often I've been among the many in the sports books screaming "Shoot the f*cking ball!" to no avail.

Stayed there at least 10 times now...also through RCI. Unbelievable deals..got a 2 bd a couple of times for $239! If you want a newer room try to get one of the buildings out by the parking deck. I think they are less than five years old. They have the granite and newer appliances. South Point a very easy stumble back to your room! I would highly recommend a car though. Can be on the Strip in 10 minutes and those Lyft fees will add up quickly.

    tribegiant,

Thanks for the insight. Being there for possibly two weeks it might be nice to try to get a newer unit. They didn't have any two bedrooms at the Grandview on "Last Call Vacations" for the times we wanted. Those vacation deals are a great deal and the best part of RCI and owning a timeshare as far as we're concerned.

I stayed in the Holiday inn vacation club 2 years ago and the Wyndham Grand desert Last year and I found both to be very nice.

We stayed there for 2 weeks last year. It was fine and the price couldn't be beat. We enjoyed many late night specials at South Point, it's just across the street.

    You beat me to it.
I also agree with you, and disagree with the other poster (GeorgeJ). We stay at the Holiday Inn Desert Club almost every year, and it is quite nice...plus, every unit has a patio/balcony. They have been remodeling each building over the past few years, so they are even nicer now than they were.

The current pictures I just found of Holiday In Desert Club look much better than it did when I stayed there the one time about 5 years ago. The unit I stayed in was dark, and the furniture wasn't all that great. The washer/dryer was out on the patio (?!) and the washer didn't work.
Based on the condition of the unit I got at Holiday Inn, I would list it last out of all the timeshares I have stayed at in Vegas... 1) HGVC Trump 2) HGVC Elara 3) HGVC Strip 4) HGVC Flamingo 5) HGVC Paradise 6) Wyndham Blue 7) Wyndham Grand Desert 8) Grandview 9) Holiday Inn You make up your mind. My one stay there was bad enough that I would not consider ever staying at The Holiday Inn again when I have 8 better choices.
The Holiday Inn Desert Club moved to the current location maybe 10 years ago. It was originally located where a parking lot for the LINQ is today. What was then Harrahs (company is now CET - Caesars) made a deal to get that land so it could be used for the LINQ. They traded the current location for the land they wanted. It used to be apartments for casino workers. Harrah's refurbed it and it became the current Holiday Inn Desert Club. At the previous location, it had been known as Ramada Suites, and before then it had been the Grand Flamingo. After the refurb by Harrahs, the timeshare moved to the new location and the old location was bulldozed by Harrahs.
As I recall, most people thought that the new timeshare was a lot nicer than the original.

We returned last night from 11 nights, 12 days at the Grandview. We were impressed. When we checked in Friday afternoon, March 9th we mentioned that we'd booked two weeks separately in a one-bedroom condo and asked if they could put us up in one so that we wouldn't have to change units at the end of the first week. No problem. She checked us in for both weeks and gave us a west-facing unit on the 15th floor of the Honeysuckle building, which is the newest tower at the back of the property. The unit was large by timeshare standards and well appointed, though the kitchen could have used a few more pots and pans. We looked out over I-15 toward the mountains in the west. I'm noise sensitive, but the sound proofing was good enough that the interstate traffic never bothered me. It wasn't until the last couple of days that we heard any significant noise from the units around us. Must be spring break for California schools this week, because massive quantities of California families checked in.

This place is a great deal if you've got a timeshare elsewhere and can take advantage of the "extra vacation" offers from RCI. With the $25 per week "facility fee" we paid $295 a week. We checked out early because we came primarily for the first couple of rounds of March Madness. Twelve days in Vegas is the longest we've ever spent and we were pretty burned out. Since we had booked on Southwest using points I'd also booked return flights for this Friday, the 23rd. We left it up to the gambling gods yesterday morning at South Point as to whether we stayed or went home. They were not kind to us, so we came home yesterday afternoon. This was also our first time at South Point, and in addition to the March Madness viewing parties we spent a lot of time there gambling, eating, and seeing other events. It offers a lot, but unless you are comfortable staying put I'd recommend a car for a week at the Grandview. We had a friend with us most of the time and had his car. He left Monday so we took Lyft to the airport yesterday. Only cost $16 and the guy was there to pick us up in less than five minutes.

Surprise trip for me to Vegas this summer will result in me staying at Grandview for several nights of a one-week trip. This bonus trip in August doubles as my annual MLB trip. One ballpark on this year's itinerary: Phoenix, although I will finally get to go to a LV51s game.

Thank you all for the Grandview info... looking forward to figuring out what the happy hours and specials are at South Point. And eating at Steak and Shake. I love it, and we don't have it here in Minnesota.
