I read older posts on the renovations at the Cal, but I could not reach a definitive conclusion.

What is the difference between the Deluxe Room and the $25 more Premium Room?

As I understand it, the Cal is only renting rooms in the completely renovated West Tower and about three floors of renovated rooms in the East Tower, so it can't be because the Deluxe Rooms are not yet remodeled. The room descriptions for both rooms sound identical. So, why does the Premium cost more? My wife would happily have me pay more if the Premium bathroom is larger.

I believe both towers are now complete. Never seen a $25 difference, maybe $10. I imagine they will call the rooms in east tower deluxe since they are mostly a little smaller.

Just looked at Cal site for 2 nights. Dec 5th & 6th. Without any reduction for players card the rates are:
Deluxe 2 queens is $55 per night
Premium 2 queens is $80 per night.
That's a $25 difference. Under room details, they are both listed as having the same sq footage.

In what way are the West tower rooms a little larger? Is it the bathroom?
    Thanks.

Maybe the big difference is in my tier may be higher. Yes west wing bath is larger. But I would go with the cheapest room, you may still end up in the west wing. I am going end of Nov and since solo I don't care, since all rooms have been updated. I will check my prices for those dates

Just looked on BConnected for my price. Only offers room reg $55 for $47. Always been in west tower. I also looked on LMTClub dot com and their price is $35 for those dates. I have used before and am using again for my 3 days I need to pay between my comps. You can get free membership if you google it. Only difference I had to pay up front. But mine was $33 instead of $47 for 3 days. So saved $42 plus taxes($112 total) I really see no difference in deluxe and premium unless it is the bathroom size.

Right Eaglejohn, I too would go with cheaper room if going solo. Wife going CHANGES that plan. Something about the bathroom that many (not all women} find so dam important. At least she doesn't push me to stay at strip hotel. For that I am thankful. If an extra 25 bucks a night keeps her happy Downtown, dam well worth it I say.

I called the Cal to make reservations rather than booking on the internet since the room description was the same for both Deluxe and Premium.
I asked for the difference between rooms. She gave it so quick, I could not understand, but it had to do with one elevator goes to the reservation area and another goes somewhere else (Probably the second floor. ). First time I ever heard of a room costing more because of where the elevator went especially in such a small casino. Some people have said the West tower rooms are a little larger, so I told her I would like the elevator that goes to the West Tower. She said I would then need to book a premium room which I did. I also told her I wanted a refurbished room and she said they were all that way now. I will get a more detailed explanation when we check in. Just don't understand why it is not explained on their internet booking site.

This will be my first stay at Cal as we usually do MSS. MSS rooms are getting somewhat worn. We booked MSS for 3 nights and will try Cal for 2 just to check them out. I hope MSS gets on the next upgrade list after the upcoming Freemont update.

Thannks for reporting your findings from calling the hotel. It does seem silly that they'd charge extra with elevator location as the rationale.

For what it's worth, the East tower elevators are very close to the check in desk. Whereas the West tower elevators are on the other end of the casino floor, and they stop at both the casino floor and on the mezzanine (by Aloha Specialties, Lappert's).

I've never stayed at the Cal, so this is good to know as I will be in the West tower. If I'm off to MSS, my favorite vp place, I can stop the elevator at Mezzanine.
If I'm off to Fremont, my second favorite vp hangout, I take it down to the casino floor. Lappert's coffee it's Mezzanine. Chicago Brewing Comp it's casino floor.
Hey, this will make it easy. Thanks.

Returned from a first stay at The Cal for the weekend. I have no idea what type of room we received but it was nice. West tower, 22nd floor.
Check in stated that all rooms were redone and complete. Also that the west rooms did have a bigger bathroom.
Our room was as good as what we have had at the Orleans. The Cal didn't have coffee makers but did have safes and a refer.
Seems that the beds were a little lower to the floor. Comfy. The Palms beds were the same. Our imagination? We liked it.
The carpet was stained some but otherwise a great room. Large flat screen TV. Bath was very nice with a step in shower.
Only problem--we went on a First Friday. Very crowded at the FSE. But had to go for the memory of Chester Bennington of Linkin Park.
Due to what happened the weekend before, there were armed guards at each entrance to the casino and at the elevators.
Always had to show room key.

So even at the Cal they are tightening up security! Not sure how showing a room key, which some don't even turn back in, will make it more secure. I guess they are just hoping to make a statement by their presence. Of course this will cost all players eventually as the price of something must go up to pay for more security.
I really have no answers here. Don't really know if I want more or less "big brother watching".

Unbelievably George Orwell had this predicted the year I was born.

All you have to do is ask maid for coffee maker and coffee. 1 cupper but good enough.
22 floor in West wing is actually around 9-10th floor, I believe. East tower goes to 12 and west wing starts numbers from mezzanine to 23-24?

As with many other things, this security thing is just for show, JMHO. It only gives guests and the public a false sense of security. The hotels are also hoping that when the bad guys see such "tight" security maybe they won't do bad things but we all know that room keys are easy to come by. Hey, maybe they are searching your luggage before you go up the elevator:poke:. Kidding.

We all know that unless they go with full screening of guests and their luggage there is really no realistic way they can protect the public from incidents like the one last week. Again JMHO.

i agree. I stayed in the west tower back in august and the carpet in my west tower room was already looking worn and stained.

I say baloney on that one.
the rates are not higher or lower because of the location of the elevator.
if the room is comped, get the premium. if you are paying, take the deluxe. no biggie.

Wow that's crazy, we were there the week before the incident with barely any security, except for one who was walking the our floor one night checking on thing and certainly no one downstairs checking for rooms keys.

For the record, our room on the 19th floor was spotless in the West Tower, we were literally the last set of rooms on the floor, 1947 and MiL was in 1948.

What the H are people doing in their rooms on the carpet???
Perhaps just another sign of lack of respect some people have for what is not theirs.

Seriously though, what do people do to stain the carpets?
If it's sex, at least throw down a couple of the large towels, we do.
If you upchuck from a bad buffet or losing all your money, get down on the floor and clean it up, we do.
If you need to eat in the room, use a plate not the floor, we do.
If your tipsy but still need another glass of wine, get it downstairs where it's free and won't spill on the carpet, we do.

Only other thing I can think of is animals, but I've never seen dogs and such at the Cal.
    What am I missing?

    I think it is 50/50.
they started with a cheap, low quality carpet.
    the guests ARE animals.

I wonder how often someone comes through with a carpet cleaning machine...

Three things they use cheap when re-doing rooms but SHOULD NOT: Carpet, Bathroom Fixtures, Matress.
Pay a little extra for quality materials, the work to do it doesn't cost anymore.
The junk will come back and bite you in the ass pretty quick as some are already finding out at Cal.

It's amazing what slobs some people can be. We were in a new Hampton Inn over the weekend. A couple was sitting at the next table at breakfast. She accidentally tipped over her coffee. It started spilling over the edge of the table onto the new carpet. They just sat there. We grabbed our napkins, reached over and said "here, let us help" and blocked the flow off the table. The guy then said, as if waking up, "I'll get some napkins." He came back and half-heartedly mopped at the table. Then they both left, leaving their cups and spilled coffee on the table. I wouldn't want to see what their room looked like when they left.
