Well, the unthinkable has happened. I’m 99% sure I’m cancelling my annual Las Vegas excursion this year. I set goals for myself especially at work ( I sell cars ). It doesn’t look like I’m gonna attain my sales goal for July. If that holds true than I will be cancelling my vacation. Unlike most of our society today you know that when you come in last place you get a trophy anyway kinda thinking. That’s not me. I reward myself for good behavior and take away for bad behavior. Financially it’s not that big a deal. I scored a fantastic deal a few months ago $330 for the whole package 3 nights and 4 days ( at the Flamingo )with round trip airfare . As I said moneywise it doesn’t hurt that much but I will admit being 30 days away and finally admitting to myself I have failed to hit my goal is a big physiological blow. Maybe I should have tried a little harder. It’s a lesson that I won’t soon forget. I’m so sure this trip isn’t going to happen I have even removed my countdown timer. The irony for me is I have been with this company for 5 months and I have hit every goal I set out to hit. Of course I would have to fuck up in the bottom of the ninth inning. Oh well I’ll just have to live through my fellow VMB comrades trip reports. Today I’m a very sad member of this little community.

Wow. You are tough. I don't think I've ever been that hard on myself. Lighten up. You only go around once; it's not like this is practice for the real round of life.

I don't look as vacation as being a reward but being a right. How can one recharge his/her batteries or clear one's head? It also gives you chance to gain perspective.

Instead of vacation, think of Vegas as an off-site goals assessment trip.

Since you said the trip was a great deal and the lack of meeting your personal quota didn't really impact your money situation-----I don't think you should be punishing yourself. Life is too short to do that to yourself ( we all have enough people and situations that do it to us).

Take the trip and use the time away from real life to assess your life and how you treat yourself and what you want for yourself.

Take the trip, enjoy the break, Tony.

Come back fresh and ready to smash the rest of the year.

As said, we only get one spin at life, and it's there for making memories.

I used to be the same way, but then I realized life is about experiences and relaxation. Stress and pressure from work situations shouldn’t run your life.

tony- i respect the decision. delayed gratification is certainly lacking in 2019. i would think of this as postponing the trip, not cancelling it. set a new but achievable goal for yourself with the vegas trip as the reward.

I admire your discipline. At the same time, just throwin' it out there, tomorrow is promised to no one. There's probably gonna come another month where you may knock it outta the sales ball park. Or, the dealership could close down. Point being, we don't control nearly as much as we'd like to think we do. Go on to Vegas. If the dealership is still open when you get back, tee up another quota. Feel me, dawg?

Selling cars is tough especially with all the new on line purchase options. Go to Vegas as you got a great deal and refresh yourself for a more determined finish to the year.

Tony, you have to do what is best for you, but I'll express my thoughts. If you can afford it, then have your annual trip. Being a good salesman is a skill, but sometimes there's forces outside your control involved. So don't beat yourself up over this.

I'm sad for you, Tony. You must have known that the degenerates here were going to try to change your mind about cancelling your trip though, so maybe there is hope you can get there anyway. ;)

The fact you think you can cancel....that should go on the "Vegas Misconceptions" thread :)

I think you were coming into Vegas the day I am leaving. Who do I hand off all my unused edibles to now????

Tony, you still have 10 selling days in the month, don’t throw in the towel.

While I continuously push myself to be the best at work, get promoted quickly etc ... I also remind myself that I could die tomorrow. Don't be too hard on yourself and, if you can afford it, enjoy life a little.

Here's to hoping you kick ass for the last 10 days of July and hit your sales goal.

Babe Ruth struck out al the time. Never heard of him beating himself up about it and not getting back u to the plate.

Maybe some time off is what you need to refocus. Sales is sales. No matter what you do sometimes you cannot win. Its just the way the game is played.
