Haven't been to Vegas in 3-4 years.....
Planning a trip for early January.

Is Vegas.com going to be as good as any place to find a good deal?

    Or how do you recommend?

    Thanks in advance.
    Guy

I'd book with the hotels themselves so if I played enough for a room comp on the back end, they could do it. Booking via vegas.com or any other third party site hinders back end room comps.

Plus, most hotels may match a rate you find on those sites or you could find a better rate later on and it's much easier to rebook at the lower rate when you book direct.

    what he said.

I like vegas.com, it is competitive. I have used it a few times when I don't have offers that are better. usually for just a single night here or there.
just make sure that if you do book with them, that you choose the ones that are refundable. some of them are not.

Book direct if you're going to do any significant gambling - book direct if you want to shoot for an upgrade - book direct if you want a specific type of room - book direct if you don't want any headaches at check in - in closing, book direct.

One more vote for booking direct... but one word of advice:
Compare your 'travel-cost total' (air+hotel) with the 'vacation packages' offered by most of the airline websites.
At times, you can discover fairly significant savings...especially for mid-week travel & hotel.
Apples-to-apples though...if your looking at a Friday through Monday stay, be sure your comparisons match.

I did this once and effectively got my Golden Nugget room at zero extra cost, versus booking the same flights & booking hotel directly with the Nugget.
So, the "back-end comps" issue never factored in.

    As always, YMMV...

I would check sites like priceline and then compare to calling direct, and dont forget about resort fees, some places have them downtown and some dont.

I generally book my Nugget stays direct, as the Black Friday offers are best price, but other places I sometimes book 3rd party, as I don't have any chance of backend comps with the amount of gambling I do.

As most have said, if you're doing any gambling, it's best to just book with the property.

I usually book direct with my offers. But this trip I needed 3 days inbetween my 4 and 4 at Cal.. My Sapphire rate was $47 per night(weeknight) with Cal. Looked online and used LMTClub at $33 a night. Not worried about not getting comped for paid nights as this trip will be much less gambling. 11 days will cost $112

Just FYI, most downtown hotels DO NOT match rates. I don't know of any downtown hotels that match rates. But if you speak with a host you may be able to get rack/reduced room rates depending on your history of play.

As others mentioned, check with the hotel sites to see if they offer good rates. If you log on you might get even lower rates (if you are a player's card member). For me I also check with Kayak to see if other sites offer lower nightly rates. I like booking.com because you can get decent rates and you don't have to pay for your stay upfront (just pay the first night). With hotels.com and (I think) vegas.com you have to pay for your entire stay upfront. Kayak checks with many sites like booking.com and hotels.com and many other sites to find the lowest rates. I'm not a fan of trivago, find better deals and navigating with Kayak.

And as others have mentioned, if you play enough you may qualify for back end comps but if you book through a third party site you won't get the comps.

Four Queens is currently having a 48 hour sale if that hotel interests you.

Try contacting a host where you last gambled..and ask if you could get a discount of some type. I did that rebooking a year later at the Four Queens and got a casino rate for my room...much cheaper than a package or direct booking. It never hurts to ask.

So with mine I got Four Queens through Orbitz with a $30 off coupon making my two night stay $80.77 and an ability to cancel. Would there be any benefit to reaching out to 4Qs?

Since I just returned to Vegas after a 7 year hiatus I don't have any clout with any casinos and apparently my play earned me nothing from anyone except Ellis Island. So I booked my next trip through Kayak dec 12-15 2 nights at the D and round trip airfare from Orlando $ 236. I tried booking direct but the airfare alone was more than the total cost of my trip with the hotel. So for now it's Kayak

It is always good to book direct. It's easier for upgrades, casino comps etc etc.
