At this point, I don't feel the need to be the first one off the plane when Vegas reopens.

A lot can and will change between today (April 1) and many of our dates of travel.

Oh did you ever say a bunch here. Just considering all of the potential permutations of "when I might return to Vegas" is as crazy as so many of the other thoughts and questions rattling around in my head of late......

But I will start here: I think Vegas will be "Vegas" enough if certain things are in place. For me, it's primarily about the "events" returning to Vegas more than Vegas "just being open". Because for me, Vegas is about being a VENUE for other awesome events (my primary being the every other year Phish Halloween run at MGM Grand) as it is about Vegas itself. When the events return it will no doubt be "Vegasy" enough.

There's a whole lot that needs to happen before those events return.

But in preparation for that Halloween weekend theoretical/assumed-it-was-happening-run, I did buy the flights for that week, just a bit over a month ago, perfect schedule/route/seats/price for a week where schedules tend to rule the day. I can move that flight schedule one time at no charge, so another thought pops into my head if the concert run doesn't happen:

If no events happen over the coming year that pings interest here, but am fortunate enough to not be too damaged from the situation financially to be able to or to feel comfortable in coming to Vegas, I would expect a low cost environment relative to other times, and in such case might come out - if for no other reason than to just hang out on the balcony and roast cannabis for a few days:D Would be a good way to decompress, and given that I already paid for the flights could move that and do an "impromptu" getaway, especially over any given four to five day period with bargain rates.

So I see a few scenarios that could play out where our next trip out there could occur under different circumstances, depending on how the future plays out. OTOH there are also scenarios which could have me considering ANY Vegas trips imprudent for a period of time, in which case "Vegasy" won't have anything to do with it.

So it's a question with more variables than any Vegas casino game you can think of to get to the ultimate answer in the subject header, but it IS something I have given some thought to, especially since I already bought the flights.

I plan on being there Sept 6-9. Bought a $80 r/t ticket on AA out of CLT. I'm hoping the hotels drop their resort fees. And go back to free valet parking!

After finally being forced to cancel I re-booked for mid-June and am planning to do a week this time.

For me, being "Vegasy" essentially means being able to behave in a way that I can't at home. If I can live in excess with all of my vices then I will absolutely be there. Crowds, restaurants, and various attractions wouldn't play into my decision.

I was thinking that I would rebook our Vegas trip for pretty soon after the opening. But now I am thinking a trip that is better suited for being outside. Hit the beach somewhere south or rent a place up north on a lake and just relax. Boat ride, fire pit, sleep and repeat sounds good now.

I imagine that it will be a slow opening like they did with the slow closings. I would imagine the hotels/casinos will open, restaurants will slowly start to open, shows will start to happen, clubs will start to open. I don’t think they will do everything at once.
I did see somewhere where MGM resorts were telling their employees to be ready for a mid May opening this was before the extended stay at home order until the end of April, so I guess we will see. I am supposed to go mid June and will hold out hope. Was there during the closers and will hope to be there when it opens again

I plan on going the day they announce they are reopening for certain. I got laid off due to Covid-19, and just before I was laid off I was supposed to go to Vegas. So I figure I’ll get in a trip before I start the job search. I’m still holding out hope that I’ll get my job back.

Cancelled our week trip to the Bellagio 05/05 - 05/12, re booked for 08/16-08/23, hopefully everything back to semi normal by then. SW fares are trending lower dah!
Pent up $ from a missed trip might getting us recognized at the B, but probably not. Still four nights comped with $500 FP/Food not bad.
Have plenty of time to lose that 5-10 pounds as Jean Georges, Delmonico and maybe Bardot Brassiere maybe on our radar! And breakfast at Mon Ami Gabi also. Can't wait for some heat as the WI spring
has not arrived as usual and week after week of no sun begins to wear on you.

When Vegas does open and i'm ready to go, maybe in the Fall, i plan on wearing black disposable gloves and a black bandana over my face in the Casino and in my pocket outside when walking stairs, pushing buttons etc. I will also stay 6 ft apart which means a separate bank of slots so that no one plays near me. In the food court i'll do the same, sit nowhere near people. I won't use any Tram, i'll just walk to places instead, preferably on the west side of the Strip where it's less crowded.
I go solo so i may have to purchase an extra ticket, either on a plane or bus to/from Vegas, so that no one sits next to me.
In my room i'll keep my gloves on just in case.

I think i just about covered everything. Better safe than sorry.

P.S.......if a hooker propositions me in the casino or street, i'll just say we have to be 6 ft apart. Oh wait,........never mind.

We were supposed to be there 4/14-4/28. I won't rebook until I know it's safe. I will not have self-isolated for months to try to protect my health only to go to LV (or anywhere) to get sick.

I'll go as soon as it opens. I've already missed a cruise and a Vegas trip, and been kicked out of Biloxi early in this short time. I'm scheduled to go to Vegas 2 weeks from today and that's obviously not happening either. This has saved me a lot of money, a little bit of PTO, and I have some first class airfare credits sitting around doing nothing now too. My next reservation is memorial day weekend and if they're open, I'm almost for sure going. I dont have a lot of faith in that either right now though. If the consensus of the world is that it's safe by then though, I'm hopping on a plane. Lord knows the people there need the business asap, and I'm fortunate to not be hurting to bad from this at this point (knock on wood) so I'll go back as soon as it seems like a sane idea, and I'll do whatever is open.

what does this mean to you?i would think the closest thing to an objective definition would be you have received the vaccine, which you might get in 18 months. and by then there will have been several mutations of the original, possibly. I'm not a physician.
if there is a different definition I'm all ears. I am honestly curious as to how people manage all of this.

Forget "safe," but we'll have pretty good indication that it's "reasonably" safe when the RATE of new infections and deaths drops significantly. What's "reasonably" and "significantly" will be open to interpretation and debate, but I would think that's the first milestone which can't come soon enough. No one knows when.

I think its going to take awhile for international travel to rebound. I can't imagine Vegas is going to be running at 100% capacity until after there is a vaccine. It would be foolish to allow the entire world to travel to Las Vegas, which to be fair is not the cleanest place in the world before we have this thing beat.

I expect a really slow roll out for when they reopen. Vital Vegas posted the other day that Caesars is going to start by re opening Caesars Palace and Linq, followed by the other resorts as the demand increases. I would imagine MGM would do the same, start with Bellagio, Aria, Mirage and expand as needed.

I think Vegas will be open in some capacity in May. Maybe I am being pessimistic, but I don't think Vegas will be Vegas until 2021, only because of the lack of travel. We shall see. I am still planning on booking an end of summer trip in September, and I hope things are looking much better then.

We are making a new change for future winter trips. Now that a direct flight is possible out of Boston to Hawaii, we are flying to Hawaii first to swim in the ocean and recoup from the winter weather. I always miss swimming in the salty ocean in the cold winters. From there we will fly to Vegas before returning to Boston. All direct flights. The Boyd company is always booking flights to Vegas.

Non Stop service started in 2019.
