Your Daily Gambling Limit in Vegas

What is your average Vegas trip length and how much do you give yourself a day to gamble with?

I go for a week at a time. I am thinking $50 a day for gambling but it can go quick if you are losing. I think starting with $50 a day would be good. If I win, I put half of my winnings away and play with the other half (depending how big the win is of course, if it's large I wouldn't gamble half away). I think I will keep money in the safe in the room so I am not tempted to feed more into the slots when I'm buzzed off the free drinks they keep bringing, LOL!

 

2 or 3 days, $500 a day

 

1 week, about $100/day.

 

5-6 times per year and our standard is 5 day, 4 night. After that we are ready to go home.

Don't really have a budget, but I know I have lost $50 playing while waiting for my second cup of coffee in the morning. :evillaugh

 

I am possibly thinking of switching my limit to $75-100 per day as all of our rooms are free and it might allow for some longer playing time/fun.

 

As a poker player I only stop playing if I feel like the losses are negatively impacting my game.

 

The key is absolutely to budget per day an amount you can afford to lose. When my husband and I first started going to Vegas back in the late 90's, that was around $75 per day each.

Now, we generally go for 3 day trips, 3 or so times per year, and our budget is about $250 per person per day, or $500 per day total. That is just for gambling, does not include meals, tips, buying something in a store etc. I also always have an extra envelope (we use the daily envelope system) with $200-$300 in it that I refer to as my "In Case of Emergency, Break Glass" envelope. If gambling disaster happens, that is our 1 time back up plan.

I'm not trying to insult you but if this is what you have left after flight and hotel than I would reconsider your options.
If it's 50$ because that's all you want to spend and have monies for other things that also cost money then that's cool too.

11 days coming up, expect to be gambling 5-7 of them. 500 per day.

Considering big playing one day at Cosmo for the 2500-3000 bankroll though. On the other hand, can't imagine not gambling for most of the trip so I doubt that will work. I am hoping I can sustain my bankroll for most of the trip, (i.e. not lose 500 per day). We will see.

You'd think with only playing games that are <1% HA I wouldn't lose everything, every trip....

Oh no, I can afford more than $50 per day, I just want to factor in food, shopping, etc...I don't want to throw away a bunch of money if the slots are tight. $50 is light for sure, I know, but I'm going for a week. Maybe one day I will spend $100 and one day $50..it also depends on my mood that day. I would love to have a higher limit but I have to be practical and I don't want to throw away a ton of money and come home depressed about it. I see people pumping $20 after $20 (or sometimes $100 after $100) into a machine hoping to win. Crazy!

 

What games are these?

Every game with a negative EV (all of them on the strip) have a 100% risk of ruin in the long run...

Get on the sucky side of variance and your busted pretty fast...even on games with HA <1%...variance thou arte a heartless biatch

 

Hit and run and $50 could last the day...unless you hit a bad run then you are bust. Goldfish and Jackpot Party seem to be streaky...

I assume you are planning to do other stuff other than gambling

I don't even bother trying to come up with a daily limit because I would break it and feel bad about not adhering to it lol.

 

We go out to Vegas 3 times a year for a full week each trip. We play video poker, and take a bankroll for "about" $750 / day. On our April trip, we cycled & re-cycled about $36K over that week, and never lost a day's portion. In fact, for our week's play at video poker, we only lost about $125 total.

We never look at our bankroll as an amount that we are going to play until it's all gone. We try to play very wisely, and let the video poker percentages do their work for us .....

 

I bring a bankroll (typically $2k for a 3-5 day trip, $3k-$4k for a 6-14 day trip), and do not allocate on a daily basis. If the trip starts off poorly, I'll play more conservatively or switch from VP to live poker (or just take a few hour break) to slow down / halt the losses.

I was a chaser in the past, and always thought I could "win it back". I've found slow and steady is more relaxing and more enjoyable vs. pressing and losing / risking big losses early. The same mindset works for investing, except you always have a "house edge" long term vs. trying to negate / eliminate the house edge in BJ, VP and Live Poker.

We do about 600 per day for the two of us and it's usually a 3.5 day visit. The half day is the day we fly back home.
