    Thailand and Singapore.

I almost purchased some real estate in Thailand a few years ago, but decided not to since hotel rates are so cheap that I can stay at hotels instead.

Montreal, Singapore and Macau. Actually lived in Montreal from 2006 to 2010 because of good tax breaks. Loved the city. My company went belly up because of drastic changes of industry infrastructure plus I couldn't deal with the damn cold anymore. Also the casino sucks.

The Peoples' Republic of Northern California -- which is neither northern nor a republic -- that insular pocket around SF Bay that has declared itself the Center of Everything Since the Big Bang????

Lived in Korea, U.K. and Germany for around four years each. I liked Korea the best. Germany was the worst of the three. Nothing beats living in the U.S!

Gee guys you left the best country in the world out!!!!! Which is it I hear you say?

    IRELAND of course!!!

Fresh air best natural water, no traffic jams, free medical/hospital, free prescriptions, excellent social security (with free rent). Food excellent and unbelievable value. Not to mention Irish whiskey and our Guinness. Beautiful green countryside with top blue flag beaches, the sights/views in Donegal and Kerry and Irelands garden co Wicklow. The easy going and slower pace of life BUT best of all the friendliest people who enjoy the craic.

Have any of you been to an Irish wedding?

Love US of A but hey a wee bit scary for me. For record been to USA 5 times and going to Vegas in February so do enjoy hols there.
I suppose most people love their home.

Prague or Dubrovonik Croatia. Two of the prettiest places in the word, with great people and beer.

Ireland is beautiful, which is why I've visited a few times (when I lived in Belgium, I had a fantastic Irish roommate) After years living in other places - she went home too:thumbsup:

No People's Republic for me. That would be worse than what we have now. Just going for a cheap joke.

OK, seriously, as some of my web friends know, I am a staunch Anglophile. I could live quite comfortably in an English village. Canada, not so much. Never been to NZ but I understand they don't want older immigrants.

Hi hoyaheel, glad you like Ireland. Sounds like you made a good friend and enjoyed your stay. I would like to imagine you both still keep in contact.

If Ireland were in the Caribbean, I'd move in a flash! Other than that, it's very appealing.

I love Ireland but could never stand the rain.

I spent the summers of 2011 and 2012 in Turkey. Wonderful country. The people are open and friendly, the food is delicious and the history of the nation-state is beyond amazing. I could easily live there but do prefer the good old USA.

    Hi Nuggetboy
True it does rain a lot it is a downside but makes you look forward to holidays in sunnier climes! Turkey is a beautiful country.

    Vietnam

Was in VN last year and fell in love with a couple places. One on the beach, Hoi An, and one in the Highlands, Dalat.

It's funny, we were coming in to DaNang and there is this GIANT billboard of Greg Norman, aka "The Shark" , pointing you toward the Greg Norman Estates. They are more or less on China Beach, with a Norman designed golf course winding throughout.

    I don't golf......but I could learn.

The other place, Dalat, is in the hills and never gets hot and muggy like Saigon. They grow a lot of export flowers for European big box stores like Costco, and also starting a coffee growing business. We found a five acre coffee operation with modern processing facilities and a nice house for fifty thousand USD.

I am 57 and I'll never retire early here, but I could sell now and retire there as soon as the house cleared. Like my job so not quitting to do it, but the math works and the medical care is pretty good.

Cumbria is very similar to your description. I love it here, but my bones prefer a warmer climate.

Spain is my current retreat of choice, but we also spend between three and four months in the west USA. Predominantly Vegas, (the lack of humidity helps the arthritis immensely.) but we visit other places too.

    Australia, for sure!
    Canada.
New Zealand and virtually anywhere in the UK should work.

Wait! Canada as I couldn't afford trips to Las Vegas otherwise. :faint:
