Bathroom Standards

I mentioned in my past trip report about how Vegas bathrooms are creepy crawly for me.

There are usually hairs on the floors and walls after close inspection.

I have seen hairs in the bathroom in various hotels: Monte Carlo, Quad, LVH, Excalibur, Wynn, Hooters, Orleans, Circus Circus, Mandalay Bay, Four Queens, El Cortez, etc. Some were worse than others and some had additional problems. :evillaugh

All of these experiences have taken place within the last year. For me, it seems that housekeeping standards have declined. Or, it just might be my luck!

What are your experiences with bathroom housekeeping standards?

 

The bathroom cleanliness standards are definitely dropping. We have been known to ask for a re clean when we check in. I think the staff numbers have been reduced so they have too much to do and skimp on the cleaning.

 

The bathroom at the Cal had a hair on the tub too long to be mine (unless I have a problem I didn't know about.)

And I thought of you. I really did.

You know what I did then?

I ignored it and took a shower. I did the same thing the next day too.

Now, when I found toothpaste and mouth mung in the sink at MGM Greed, I did something about it. There were bits of food or some other human spouted effluent in there and it was too much to work around.

The housekeeping supervisor, Denise, was awesome.

We looked around together and came up with a pair of disposable contact lenses in a drawer and I found some illegal drugs too!

Flusher: If in fact the toilet was not sealed to the wax ring on the floor and rocking, then it is quite possible you were smelling sewer gas.

 

Wow! It shows. Depending on how bad it is, I ask for a re-clean, new room, comp, leave...yet I continue to encounter it. I certainly do not remember it being this bad before.

 

Thankfully I have yet to experience any issues. I am picky about cleanliness too.

I'd pitch a fit if I had a nasty bathroom.

You're wild! And that story is wild (and at MGM of all places--people pay for standards)! Was housekeeping even in there at all?

@rockybalboa Absolutely. I am so glad that you have not experienced it. Maybe I need to start finding out specific floors and rooms in hotels where housekeeping gets it right. Will start making requests!

 

I can't stand finding hairs on the bath towels!

 

After working in a hotel for a year i can tell you the biggest problem with housekeeping is too many rooms and unrealistic expectations of housekeepers.

They are expected to do 2 rooms per hour, now that does NOT leave room for extremely messy rooms that can take an hour to do. That means if they encounter a room that puts them behind they have to rush to get the rest done.

We had to watch a documentary about hotel cleanliness and it was gross. Not surprisingly the worst hotels were the most expensive and the best were the cheapest ones on a consistent basis and they went all over canada too, not just one city, nor one chain.

 

I stay at Boyd Properties (Cal, MSS, Fremont, Orleans). No complaints. Room, bathroom, shower all clean.

Stayed at Excaliber once and Golden Nugget twice. No problems.

Can't believe the Strip have bathrooms that don't meet resort standards. But then again, crap (literally?) happens and I'm sure it is in the minority.

Maybe you were just unlucky. Are you sure those hairs weren't yours? Just kidding.....:evillaugh

 

I've never had a problem in Vegas yet although I bet this will jinx me.

I did however stay in one of the best properties Vancouver B.C has to offer and noticed the bed had been rather hastily made, or maybe just kind of smoothed over.

I was a little upset that at $500 a night that it wasn't inspected but we were tired and ready to unpack.

Then I found this when I opened a drawer ..........



Needless to say we made a call, a manager appeared and there was a suite upgrade involved.

Anyone care to guess what the first two words out of my mouth were when I saw that?

I laughed pretty good at that.

"where should i put these, hon?"

"ahhh how about strategically placed on top of the holy bible?"

 

My last several stays at Sam's Town, Orleans, and Gold Coast have always had apparently spotless bathrooms, though I never lifted up the toilet tank to be sure.

I believe a "hairless bathroom fee" is in the works, so keep an eye out.

 

I'll guess...what the heck is a bible doing in a Vegas hotel room!?!?!

I've had that reaction many times over the years.

That's also more than two words, so that probably wasn't it.

 

Yeah that's what I figured too. I really reamed them out about this at check-out as a safety issue, given that this was an accessible room. Someone could literally fall on their ass!

 

In addition to random hairs, discarded used corn pads, a stray wrapper or two, we once had the pleasure of finding something that apparently flew out of someone's throat onto the bathroom vanity. Apparently it had been there a while as it was quite sturdy.

 

I almost never have housekeeping in my room, unless I need something. I have a weird thing I do. Usually at some point the garbage cans fill up. I can also be counted on to buy something that requires a bag. So, before I leave I put all my garbage that didn't fit in the can in the plastic bag(s). Because of the things you mentioned above. I think maybe I can save them a little time. And yes, I leave a tip on the way out.

I used to work in the hotel industry as well and know that the rooms won't be super clean. There are definitely expectations with regards to the cleanliness of the room but a strand of hair on the floor won't make me complain.

 

We were inadvertently assigned a room at Encore that hadn't been serviced yet and had obviously held a bachelorette gathering the previous night. It was decorated with large inflatable penises. Great laugh to start the trip. I took a few photos then called for a room change. The bell men who brought our new keys had a good chuckle as well.

 

what documentery? i dont believe that is true,i stay at nice hotels and cheap hotels and the only time i see dirty bathrooms is in cheap hotels. why would cheap dumps have better housekeeping then 5 star hotels where everyone has high standards? please tell us which documentery because it was prolly made by the people who own motel 6. :Þ
