I am travelling to London for business for a couple of weeks, and I noticed that it seems like London has a variety of casinos in their city. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them? I don't really plan on gambling while I am there, but if there were any significant ones worth looking at, it would be interesting to me. Thanks!
There is very few craps tables in the UK. London has a couple though. The Victoria has a table smallish stakes £5-10 minimum and Les Ambassadeurs in Mayfair has a table, £25 minimum, possibly higher. The Sportsman casino off Oxford St used to have a table, not sure if they still do though, similar stakes to The Vic if its still going. Number of players vary widely, often no game during the day. The Vic has a more regular base of craps players.
The only place I've been in was called Amusements down the street from The Strand Palace Hotel. It looked like a Game Arcade but it had Slot Machines in it. They were some really weird/cool ones too! I'm not sure how they are classified in London but in my book if it's has Slot Machines then it's a Casino haha!
If you are used to Vegas just be sure to put lay your expectations low, I mean REAL low lol I visited Aspers casino in Stratford, which I was told was the only 'super' casino in the UK. Ive been to most of, if not all casinos in Glasgow and can honestly say the 'super' casino in London is not much better than the larger Glasgow ones. To be fair the wife liked the slots more than the ones in Glasgow but I mainly play poker and occassionally bj and 3 card poker. The poker room was a joke and just the whole vibe of the place wasnt great. Ok bottom line is, there is no place like Vegas and maybe im being overly critcal because of that!
I was more interested to know if there were any of historical significance, beauty, etc. I tend to gamble only when I am in Vegas (or short hit and runs at the local casino to pay for Vegas). There is part of me that wants to take the Eurostar down to Paris and then TGV over to Nice/Monte Carlo to see that, but I doubt I will this trip.
Only the high end casinos will fit that bill. There is Les ambassadeurs, kown as "Les A" which is in a nice old building on Old Park Lane. Also the Ritz hotel has a casino that was quite lavishly fitted the last time i was there, although i didn't like it, too gaudy perhaps. And on Curzon street, Mayfair there is Crockfords and Aspinalls. Crockfords recently refurbed, classy and elegant. The name Crockfords has a long history in gaming, although the premises have changed since the original Crockfords was open. Aspinalls I haven't been inside so can't comment. These unfortunately are the top end casinos in London so may ask for a joining fee. Once inside don't expect many players, there are times when there is literally nobody in these casinos. I think there are no slots in these clubs, although I know that Aspinalls has a touch bet roulette that is linked to one of the wheels in one of the gaming rooms. Also none of these casinos to my knowledge has double zero roulette. The above casinos can all be found within a 10 minute walk of each other, there is a couple of others in the Mayfair area, the Playboy recently took over a club, just around the corner from Les A.
I was in Monte Carlo last summer. Very cool! The Super Yachts were awesome! I would love to go back there again. I wanted to go in the Main Casino but it didn't open until 2:00 PM. I went into the Cafe De Paris and played the slots. Monaco has to be the cleanest place in all of Europe! I also rode the EuroStar between London and Paris back in 2009.
