Has anyone tried the steak special at Ellis Island? Do you know what hours they serve the special?

Yes, I've had the special and its a great value. I posted up a review sometime earlier.

AFAIK there is no time restriction on the steak special.

There are countless threads about Ellis Island on here, the concensus is the special is among the best values in Vegas. I have enjoyed a good dozen or so trips to Ellis Island and never had a bad experience with the steak special.

They also have a morning only steak and egg special that is fantastic. They serve a steak (sirloin I Think) better than anyone else dinner steak special.

The steak special is available 24/7. You need to go to the players club and get a coupon from the kiosk there first. It's a tremendous value, and the highest quality steak I have gotten anywhere near that price. I did a full writeup on it with pictures at http://www.LasVegasOffStrip.com/?p=52

When I lived in Las Vegas, the Ellis Island steak special was a staple. Now a days, you need to pick up a coupon/voucher to get the discount. My suggestion is to get a number at the cafe, grab a beer at the bar, and go to the players club to grab your voucher. Post up at a VP machine and wait to be called. I've always loved EI. Great food, cheap gambling and hilarious people watching. Try the karaoke bar right before they finish up for the night (it runs well into the early morning hours) for some of the best people watching in town.

"Redzone" here on VMB reported about 2 1/2 weeks ago re:the coupon. You can still get the steak dinner without one, but the price is higher.

    unnecessary bureaucracy.

i'm sure there's a method to this madness, but i can't guess what it would be. if you have to present a player's card to get it, it will help track some of their restaurant business, but certainly not all of it.

i prefer their prime rib, anyway.

    I agree, Clown!
Last coupon I used was for the buffet at Golod Coast. After waiting in line to get in for the dinner buffet like I had done in the past, I was told I needed a voucher from the promotion center. I had to go stand in line for 10 minutes to get a voucher and back to the buffet which now had a long line and wait some more. I just didn't think it was worth the 5 bucks or so that you save. I haven't bought a cupon book since.

Presumably, they want to get people talking to the players club and maybe even offered free play instead of hit and run on the cafe

That didn't stop us from the "hit and run on the cafe." We had no problem walking to Ellis Island, walking to the player's card booth, and getting a card. Only one person in your group has to get the coupon. There were three of us and we went at about 5:00pm. Got right in and loved the meal.
