What's the next step up?

The wife and I have been to vegas twice together, both times staying at Harrahs. We're low rollers by all means only spending a couple hundred a day a piece gambling but enjoy all the other things to do in vegas too.We're both in our early 30's but not into the club scene and all that stuff. We're starting to plan our next trip and would like to take a step up from Harrahs, some place nicer fancier rooms and all and just have a different kind of vegas expierence.

So our question is, what would be a good place to stay out next, I've done research on lots of vegas hotel's but just like others opinions. While we'd certainly like to live like high rollers and stay at a place like Wynn or Cosmo, i don't think that would be in our budget. Any suggestions and expierences would be appreciated.

 

Harrahs is in a great and busy location. Keep in mind that if you move from the best location on the strip, it may seem a little less lively. My wife and I go to Vegas 4 times a year and usually stay at Harrahs/Flamingo/Ballys/Caesars. Caesars is our favorite but it's difficult at times to get a good deal/comp! We love that location of the strip and we found that when we stay at MGM, Mandalay, Orleans, etc. it makes for a totally different experience.

Depending on when your trip is, it may actually be best to stay away from the Harrahs area due to the ongoing construction that will be going on for the next year or so.

May I suggest Planet Hollywood, NYNY or MGM. I would suggest to not stay Downtown since this will only be your third trip together, but do make a night trip there on your next visit.

I personally would choose MGM since the club scene is not for you (i.e. Planet Hollywood). If you plan well in advance, you can get a decent deal. You are probably a CET card holder since you stay at Harrahs. Look into Paris or even Caesars (Roman Tower) if you don't want to stay at the South end.

Would Bally's be a step up? It's affordable, great location and I enjoyed it. No Wynn, but that's a different story.

Mirage is good too.

 

I’d go with Mirage. It won’t be a huge step up in price (or table minimums, food/drink costs, etc.), but it is going to give you a bit more of an “upscale” feel, IMO. The rooms will be a little nicer (pop for the Tower Deluxe Room if a nice bathroom is important). The restaurant selection is a bit nicer and more varied. And the overall property just has a more exciting vibe, to me. Plus, you’re already used to the location.

If you don’t mind a lot of walking/taxi rides, Mandalay Bay might be an even better option. But I can never get past the location, so it’s always hard for me to recommend it.

Since you’ve already stayed at CET properties before (and I assume you’ve gambled there as well), you might be able to get Caesars’ Palace for a decent price. Some of the rooms there are quite nice (and seem to be easily had via free or $20-bribe upgrade at check-in) and the restaurant/entertainment selection is pretty good as well. Obviously, other things will be pricier at CP – gambling, food, etc. But, if you don’t mind going elsewhere to eat or get your gambling fix, it might be an option.

 

I agree about Mandalay Bay. Nice place but too out of the way for me.

 

If you like that end of the strip, I would also highly recommend the Mirage. It will be a significant step-up from Harrah's in almost every category; however, the price jump shouldn't be too terrible. The Mirage provides the most "bang for your buck" on the strip IMO.

If you want to try the other side of the strip, I would highly recommend Mandalay Bay also. It will be a little more expensive than the Mirage, depending on the dates, but it is a true resort experience, as it has everything you could ever want in a hotel/casino.

If you want to stay in the CET family, I would probably say Paris. Caesar's is the obvious choice, but that will be a fairly large jump in price difference.

 

1 step up Ballys,2 steps Planet Hollywood,3 steps Ceasars.

 

I would give TI or Mirage a try. Both are very nice properties with great rooms.

 

Planet Hollywood would be the one. You apparently have a TR card from Harrah's so you'd be available to step up to PH strip view room. The Hotel, one of my favorites, also has great food, a shopping mall, and the nightlife, even though you're not a club person, is still a happening place for someone on their 30's.
I'm going back to Vegas in May and i have offers from PH to be comped, if i were you, i would stay at Planet Hollywood.

 

Palms Place may be just what you're looking for, ya its slightly off the strip but the view is amazing! And, the basic rooms are super nice.

Also since they are slightly off the strip the cost is going to be quite a bit cheaper than somewhere equally nice on the strip.

Plams Place was originally built to be condos, so every room has a kitchen...also large showers with dual heads...which are amazing

Theres also some of the fastest go-karts in the US just across the street, could be fun for both of you...

I think its about a 15 minute walk to the strip, or like a $9 cab ride to just about anywhere on the strip.

Its worth a look.

 

PH or Paris would be the next Caesars step up... or any 4 star. MGM, Mirage or Mandalay for MGM.

 

This would be mainly my list.

Bally's is not a step up from my point of view.


This is a more personal preference, but I would also add NYNY as being a step up from Harrahs.


While I do like PH, I feel it has gotten overpriced in the last year or 2. It is still a nice place, but I would take MGM Grand or Mirage over PH and it will probably even be cheaper. My favorate CET property is Paris. Reasonable rates, I like the location, good food options. It is a little dated compared to PH, but I find it a good value.

 

In my opinion, one step up from harrahs is MGM. The dining is MUCH better, the pool is light years ahead, the new renocated rooms are nice, and the enterainment options are much better than what you have had at Harrahs. The cost is going to slightly more but you are going to get a markedly better property in return.
The only thing you will sacrifice is location and statues of old people in rhinestones and cowboy hats.

 

I'd say Mirage, Treasure Island or maybe downtown at The Golden Nugget. Downtown is a lot of fun and your money goes further there, in all aspects, than on the strip. Mirage is, and has been, a particular favorite of mine.

 

Regardless of what some people say about it on here, the Tropicana is a very nice hotel. Very affordable as well. I didn't care having a room facing LVB, but there are rooms facing other streets.

 

Thanks for all the advice, gave me some good ideas for places to look into. Gave me some places i hadnt thought of to check out. I know from the offers i get from Total Rewards, the only places they send me offers to is Imperial Palace and Flamingo, and i knew for sure IP isnt a step up and didnt seem like Flamingo is any better then Harrahs

 

Stay at Harrah's, but this time in a suite....you might need to call for that though as most times it will show sold out on the internet when they are really not.

 

Within the CET family, Bally's would be a bigger room but similar amenities.

Paris would be a moderate step up, then PH and Caesars a bit above that.

Outside CET, Mirage, TI, Monte Carlo, and Mandalay Bay could all fit the bill of "not top priced but nicer than Harrah's"

 

Don't rely on their offers. Log in to your players club account and then look through their rate calendar (they have a great one where you can compare rates at all hotels).

If you are getting property specific offers, your rates should be discounted everywhere (you can compare by looking at the same calendar when not logged in), and you might even find some COMP nights at properties you don't expect, especially in the offseason and SUN-THURS
