Where have you played and gotten burned?

I am sure someone has been "burned" by every property for one reason or another.

Where and how much (and how long) did you play? Was it the first time you played at this property? Was this after utilizing a comp? Was this after having a history of comps? Was it after significantly increasing your play?

 

I feel as if I get burned every time I play at a CET property. I always manage to play and lose a significant amount of money at their casinos but never get very good offers. One of the reasons I tend to stick with MLife -- even with the way they are changing. They still offer me enough to make me come back.

 

For me, it is two places:

1. Mt. Plesant casino, Native american in central Michigan. We have a cottage about an hour from there and will go there on a rainy weekend day, etc... My winning % has to be less then 10% of all my trips and it is a running joke that I should just give the security guard at the door my $$, he can kick me in the ass and send me back to the cottage. I feel like Chevy Chase in Vegas Vacation!!! I could not catch crabs from a $2 hooker in that place. I never gamble anywhere near the money that I do at any other casino. Just enough to help pass the time while others are playing.

2. Caesars: I honestly can't think of a single time I have left up and I have stopped even trying. We will eat and walk through the casino, but I won't even put a $20 in VP. Nice place, but absolutely zero luck!!

 

Wynn - I was a loyal player there from the time it opened - but after about 4 years, my 2 original hosts left and I also had to temporarily take my level of play down a notch or two during the recession [although, that's all relative - I was still giving action that most would probably consider a "high" roller] - and after that, I felt that every host I dealt with was very arrogant and treating me like everything they were doing me was a favor instead of being thankful that I was still giving them any action at all during the recession.

So, once my business started doing better again, I decided to take my action elsewhere - and I guess the irony for Wynn is that now I have multiple LOCs at several places on the strip [Aria, Bellagio, Palazzo, Caesars] each of which is now higher than what my Wynn LOC was at its peak pre-recession - the irony being that, if they hadn't "burned" me, instead of having my action spread around town, they likely would have had it all.

But, not being bitter about it, I actually reactivated my LOC at Wynn in advance of my upcoming trip, figuring I might give them some play if the mood strikes me - but my Wynn LOC is still the smallest of the 5 active LOCs I currently have in Vegas :evillaugh

 

I take it the definition of "burned" is giving a place enough gambling action that should have produced a certain level of comps, either based on past experience or expectation from similar experiences, that never came?

In that case for us it would be Luxor: in 2005 we started staying there and it was our "home base" casino for four trips in a row and we were quite happy keeping things that way. Our level of play had been going up each trip and they were giving us comp rooms and a nominal amount of free play each time...

Then after they completed their big renovations they sent us a new offer that was good for 1 night comped with no free play and no nothing else.

Since that offer we have not stayed there, haven't considered staying there and we've spent maybe a total, in the last 5 years covering 13 trips to Las Vegas, two visits for a combined 3 hours in their casino.

 

Two visit to Venetion. Two visits with minimal comps compared to my level of play.

Will not play there anymore. They do keep sending me 3 night room offers which I will use on a family trip. I paid for it.

 

Anything MLife. I am a VP and slot player. After my first few visits they treated me well for my level of play, but now with the specialty slots and their horrible VP pay tables, I am using my last comps there and happily moving on. I was happy to turn $75 bucks of FP into $350 on a one night comp at Aria last week.

 

Lately my MLife offers, but one that stands out was a number of years ago at NYNY, my host offered F&B of about $300 or $400 (memory is foggy on the exact amount) upfront with no you need to play x to get it. In fact, it stated, if you charge more than we will evaluate your play. Now I never stay there and rarely play there, so this was the "we see your play at other properties, why don't you check out ours" offer.

When I checked out, the host on duty wouldn't honor the F&B (my host was out for the day). After I discussed the email, and showed to verify, he still wouldn't honor it. They finally reached her after I checked out and comped it. Way too much aggravation and felt it was a bait and switch at the time. Never been back.

 

Rivers Casino in Des Plaines! Only real total rip-off casino I can think of.

 

I don't really play high enough to really feel 'burned'. Anything I get is a bonus, and if anything, I've been burning CET, as their rate calendar doesn't seem to do a good job of figuring out what kind of play I'll give them on a 4 or 5 night stay.

Tried giving Trop and TI similar amount of play (couple hours of $25 blackjack) as I typically give CET as an experiment, and have not heard a peep from them as of yet. I'm assuming mLife would be a similar predicament. I may take a run at bConnected to see what they'll do for me on my next trip. One more comp at Paris this winter, and then CET won't be returning my calls for awhile ...

 

Stay Away From Sands Bethlehem PA

Spoke to the host after three days of play. Per the host, they are a "no comp" casino and only comp the top 1% of players.

Meanwhile, during the week they bus in thousands of people who do nothing but play the small amount of Freeplay they are given and then wander around the casino. I think families may board the bus together and then pool their freeplay cards...I saw multiple people sticking cards in, play, throw the card on the ground and stick another card in. When they ran out of cards they were done. I never once saw them put any more cash in. (This is a mild description of the experience you will have with the bus people. You wouldn't believe me if I told the whole story.)

I track my play very closely. We should have gotten approximately $900 in comps. We got a whopping $170.

Stay away from Sands Casinos! Holy cow do they suck!

 

I've had the same bad luck at the "Boring" Eagle up there... had to do some work at the nearby university for a few months... had luck in the poker room against the local yokels (when they actually had a game running), but never made a dime elsewhere in that place.

another place i avoid dropping dough is venetian/Palazzo ..
