OK, I know we in Wisconsin are a strange bunch, consuming more brandy per capita than any other state and really liking our Old Fashions.

We just returned from a trip to Seattle and I craved a perfect brandy manhattan with dinner. The bartender laughed at me when I asked if they had mushrooms or brussel sprouts for garnish.

I had to settle for pickled onions. Not an olive fan.

    You have regional garnish?

There is no bar in WI that doesn't have mushrooms as a garnish. Not all have brussel sprouts, but most do, along with asparagus, celery, shrimp, olives and bacon for bloody marys.

Brussel sprouts? I love cooking them but never had one in a drink.
Are they pickled, cooked or raw, Joe?

Never had mushrooms in a cocktail either, but have had pickled string beans and cajun shrimp in the occasional bloody mary-ish concoction.

What's the origin of the brussel sprout garnish, Joe?
    You've piqued my interest.

Like I said I guess it's a WI thing. Pickled mushrooms & pickled brussel sprouts. My fav is the sprouts.

[strike]I've had pickled okra in a Bloody Mary before, it was pretty good. There is a Mexican food place here in town that garnishes there Margaritas with three olives on a skwer, I love the salty olives with the sweet tart drink.[/strike] I drink whiskey straight from the bottle.

I like my drinks with a nose hair for a garnish.

If i am feeling wild I might request a pubic hair but of course that depends on how good looking the bartender is.

+1 on the pickled okra, but my favorite garnish is another shot of booze.
