It is nice that someone is living the dream. Sharing a place in Vegas with a cocktail waitress (and occasionally a stripper) sounds like a good gig. [IMG] Hope it all works out...I'm sure there will be some good stories in it.

    Mikey,

Are your ambitions to deal craps too, or just Blackjack? Not sure if you can choose, or if you have to know them all as a new-hire.

Also... Where would be your first choice to deal?

Good catch. 10 points for Gryffindor. [IMG]

How's Mikey going to throw Mr Furley off this time?

    You'll be fine, Mikey.

I can actually see you as a host more than a dealer.

Keep a journal, my man...maybe there's a book somewhere in your future.

Good luck on your move. I wish you all the best!

You are the man!!!!!!! And by the way, Mr. Furley won't ever catch on. It's Mr. Roper you need to worry about!!

Thanks gang, for all the good wishes! I can't wait to get there myself. I leave two weeks from tomorrow--it's dragging now, but once I start the final preparations it's gonna fly!

I was awakened (awoken?) this morning by the UPS man...there was a care package from the Hoyas with road trip music and some other goodies included (which I'm not allowed to open until I get to each particular state in my road trip... [IMG] ) So now I'm even more excited to go--just so I can open my presents!

As far as the whole Three's Company thing goes...Luckily it's the 21st century so I won't have to pretend I'm gay. (And don't even think about quoting that sentence in a response and adding the word anymore to it, Terry...) :D I will, however, gladly meet up for drinks at the Regal Beagle for any of you fine folks that come to visit.

As far as dealing goes...I'm taking three different classes. Blackjack, Craps, and Poker. Blackjack, to me, will be the least interesting, but easiest to get my foot in the door somewhere. Craps will be the hardest, but the most fun, and word around the campfire is that dice dealers are in short supply. And I *know* I could stand at an empty table and draw people in.

Poker, however, is what I'd like to do the most for a couple of reasons. Poker dealers are in extra high demand right now due to the games ridiculous popularity. And poker dealers get to keep their own tips, they're not pooled like the pit games. (I've only had one other job where I made tips in the past, and I blew away everyone else I worked with, so I think I can do ok). Also, I think it'd be good for my own game to be able to observe hundreds of hands per day and not be on the hook financially.

Every job I've had, I've managed to get the hang of it right away, get promotions and raises, and move along to bigger and better things pretty quickly. I'm sure working in the casino will be the same. Yeah, eventually I'll find my niche somewhere behind the tables, either as a pit boss, floor supervisor, host, etc. We'll just have to see what I like the best about the whole experience. If I find out that it sucks and it's not for me, my securities licenses (which, by the way, are *extremely* valuable) don't expire for two years, so I can always go back to doing what I've been doing. So I'm putting those 'out there on the felt' and taking my biggest gamble yet.

    Lets hope it works out.

I will definitely be keeping a 'journal' of my experiences to share with everyone...I changed over my website to a Blogger format a couple weeks ago (and since nothing interesting has happened this past month, it's quite dull reading right now), so daily updates will be made once the adventure begins. Who knows, there may be a book at some point--I'm sure I could sell at least ten copies here!

Anyhow, I want to thank you all for your support--it means a lot that I have so many people interested in how I'm doing, and it gives me extra motivation not to screw it up. :D

    Two weeks from tomorrow!

Hey Mikey think of all the people you can heckle in the sportsbooks after Mike Martz does something stupid and it cost them the game.

    Good luck again my friend

Tune in to the next hilarious episode of Three's Company II when you'll hear Mikey say...

Mikey: "Hi SB, you seem a little down this morning".

SB: "Oh Mikey, I'm depressed. Tom's taking me out to Lake Mead today and I can't decide which bikini to wear. Can I try them on and you let me know which one looks best on me?"

Mikey: "Sure hon, let's start with the one with the pink thongs".

SBII: "Not so fast you two! Mikey promised he'd help me with my new dance routine!"

Mikey: "Not a problem girls. I can handle both at the same time!"

SB & SBII: "Oh Mikey, you're such a swell roomie!!!"

    Mikey: Winks to the camera.

Hey man, I can sleep till noon if I want! I'm on sabbatical, dammit! I figure I'm just priming myself for life in Vegas. Once I get myself some decent employment, I'll likely be working the swing shift from 8pm to 4am. I'm just trying to get into mid-season form, that's all...

Terry, Mikey needs all the sleep he can get right now. Very soon he's not going to get much what with installing Poles, critiqueing dance routines and helping with stretches and all.....Also that arduous task of applying suntan oil on two backs!! [IMG]
