I did not experience your issue last week. I arrived at The Orleans about 1 pm, had a 4 night comp. Because I have specific room requirements, I will not use a kiosk to check in. The desk clerk was more than willing to offer me a few room choices that fit my needs, and never mentioned an early check in fee. I would never pay a fee like this at the Orleans. When you noticed the mistake, , you could have asked for it to be waived on the back end.

Live with it…..grocery store has express checkout 15 items or less. Ok, I’ve seen 20 but figure to check in when the posted time arrives and a bonus if early. Paying is like 20$ an hour in OP example price and time…..:) but some fly first class and others coach and both think the deal was good or sucks. We differ

I don't mind early check-in fees, but I think there should be more granularity, so that checking in ninety minutes should cost less than checking in four hours early.

Actually -- they have always charged an early check in fee since I started going years ago but I always asked the host on duty to clear it when I checked out.

Back then it was like $15 or so. And that was in the past 5-7 years. o_O

I think the early check-in fees are reduced the closer you get to the official check in time. The amount may also depend on your status level. I checked in last weekend around noon and they told me the fee was $25 (I'm Sapphire). They said there is no fee for Emerald.

The ultimate best laugher is Boyd trying to pass off their Downtown properties as "resorts" thereby charging a "resort fee".:kill:

My brother was going to be charged $28 to check in and on principle he said GFY! Left his luggage in the rental car for two hours and went and played VP.

They don't get a penny out of me until I am checked in.
I go somewhere else and play. Their loss.

They have been charging that fee since before Covid. I started arriving in the afternoon instead or early morning because of it. This is one of the worst money grabs in Vegas because it helps the front desk to check customers in early and they are being punished with bad WOM when the lines are out of control.

Check in time is posted somewhere. Is it right if your room is ready to delay it unless willing to pony up? Not in my opinion but check in time is listed somewhere.
It is a money grab. But the coupon book is gone too with the matchplay and 2 4 1 in the gift shop for something which is doubled in price to what it used to be.
look for the people on the floor that are always laughing and hitting jackpots in Boyd commercials and advertising.
    They know the secret.
Could be they’d share so everyone can hit jackpots and be laughing while waiting for the room to be ready. o_O

The things they do are so short-sighted, and it's not just Boyd.
Now, if they legit don't have any rooms available, I get it.

Of all the times I’ve arrived early at the Orleans the first time I ran into this was my most recent visit in February. The gentleman who was helping me at the kiosk was upfront about the charge, which I appreciated. I said “I’ll go to the bell desk and have them hold my bags for $5 and I’ll be back at 4”. I did stay on property as I didn’t have a car, but it definitely rubbed me the wrong way. Boyd is giving me a comp room knowing that they’ll get their money back (and more) from my gambling and restaurant spend but they’re willing to risk our mutually beneficial relationship for the sake of a few dollars. After all, how many people do what I did vs paying for early check in?

I was scheduled to check in on the 14th at Gold Coast and received an email on the 13th that I could check in online, which I did. It said I would receive an email on the 14th when my room was ready. I received an email on the 14th at 10:30 in the morning and checking in shortly after with no additional fees.
