I've historically been a Caesars player, Diamond/Plus level, but am interested in moving somewhere else to see if the grass really is greener. I'm typically a 500-1000 TC/day player, mostly video poker, so let's say $5k-$10k coin-in; more if things are going well but if they're going poorly I generally hit an emotional bankroll limit by then. I visit Vegas probably six times a year, 2-4 nights each time, so let's average that all out at $135k coin-in per year. (I have a local Harrahs here that gets additional play, but I'd probably disconnect from them in favor of a closer local casino; Harrahs is an hour away.) I do play some tables but I'm more hit-and-run and thus rarely get rated for anything.

I don't mind paying for nicer rooms (which is part of the CET issue... very limited suites), hate the idea of resort fees, and prefer to play bartops which is a huge negative against Wynn. (I don't think this level of coin-in would get me anything at Wynn anyway.) I'd like to focus on the Strip since that's what the SO prefers.

Given this level of play, is there a better option than switching over to MGM and aiming mid-level for a property like Park MGM or Mirage? Would Venetian or Cosmopolitan show any interest at that level? I'd barely make Gold at Cosmo, and no idea what I'd be at Venetian.

    Red Rock or GVR.

    However, you need the Strip.

At Venetian, you would need to accept atrocious VP pay tables relative to the denom. (Which VP variants do you prefer to play? Are you 100% single-line, or might you mix in some multi-play?) Thus, you're probably looking at room discounts at best. Tier-wise, your play would get you to Grazie Elite.

Let's just say that your preferred VP has a 2% hold. At Cosmo, $200 of theo per day could get you occasional comped rooms Sunday-Thursday. Cosmo has very underrated VP by Strip standards.

You're going to be paying resort fees wherever you end up.

Your hunch is right. Mid-range MGM is probably going to keep you and yours happy.

Cosmo might give you 2 nights midweek with lots of blackout dates. Best option for free rooms on the strip is switching to MGM if more comp rooms is your preference over paying. I am guessing you might get 2 nights at mid level properties such as Park, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, and Mirage with some weekends available and most weekends blacked out. Not sure how Trop and TI fare but not sure you are interested in those if you prefer Park MGM and Mirage.

$10K/day on VP is not enough at most Strip properties nowadays.
That's 2000 hands on single line $1. I play way more than that, but still not enough for V/P, Cosmo, Wynn or higher end MLife.

I kinda figured with the lower holds present everywhere that it wouldn't be as bad as I thought, but it sounds like it is. I'm okay playing lesser paytables on bartops since I'm pretty confident I'm beating the house edge there (at least at CET and MGM properties where it isn't really tracked; at Cosmo or places with a drink ticket system that may not be the case). I'd guess based on Strip paytables I'm playing no better than 96.5%, maybe a little better.

I'm also wondering if I'm seriously underestimating my play since I'll routinely play 4-6 hours a day on quarter multiline or dollar single-line bartops, and I don't play slow.

Grazie Elite is enough to get priority lines and check-in which is more important to me than room comps, so even if I'm not pulling significant offers, that's interesting to know. I'm mostly multi-line, 5-play and 10-play STP or DSTP at the quarter level, or triple-play at the dollar level if that's best available and my bankroll hasn't been beaten down too badly.

With the play you described, I think you would get a lot more attention (and better paytables) downtown at The D or Plaza.

At that level, I'm not sure it's even mid tier MLife. $200 theo a day, call it $70 in comps, that's Excal/Luxor, maybe Park, but I don't think it's consistent room comps at MGM/Mirage/Mandalay, Aren't they usually over $100/night even midweek?

Why don't you pick a host off the websites of a couple of casinos you're considering and email them to see what they think?

For sure, and The D treated me well for quite a while (and still does actually). Just looking to move to the Strip as the SO is more interested in pools and shows than the downtown 'vibe', so I'd like to do what I can to make sure we're not waiting in lines on those occasions.

I'm at 24k CET tier credits this year right now, almost all VP with some tables, virtually no slots. That's three days in Vegas (stupid pandemic) and three day trips to the local Harrahs. Maybe my play is higher than I thought. Some of that was on a 5x multiplier but it's at least 16k legitimate tier, so that's more like $25k coin-in per day.

irishdave, not a bad idea but I didn't figure I'd get a response as a mostly-unrated player, at this level of play. But it can't hurt I suppose. Especially if I'm doing double what I thought I was.

Yeah, that's min about $500 ADT/day, probably a bit higher. That should get you at least a weekday room if not a little more.

Worst case, pick somewhere you think you'd like, pay for a room mid-week, and talk to the host on duty before you check out and see what they'll do for you on back end comps.

I would say Cosmo sounds possible. You might not get weekend nights, but should get some midweek as well as nights that come with your status (you mentioned you'd probably get gold), and typically those can be used on weekends. Cosmo has nice bars to play bartop VP at.

I say Cosmo, since at the at type of play you’ll make gold. With gold you’ll automatically get free rooms and Cosmo gives you the best points back on spend. So throw in a couple of dinners you eat there you’ll get a lot of points to work your way to gold and identity comps.

Cosmo one last time before the stupid merger!

@Zeromus-X I'm a little confused... if you don't mind paying for rooms you can pick where you stay and if you prefer machines elsewhere you can always play somewhere else. I would say if that's the thought, on the strip, Cosmo would likely be your best bet since spending earns towards status quite efficiently and that status has the tangible benefit of 2 comped night. Also the bar top ticket system is not as bad as it has been made out to be and even a steady single line quarter player can consistently get high quality drinks with the tickets. Certainly a better drink than most bars in LV will pour. The downside is that cosmo machines track exact theo relative to the game you are playing so with 10k coin in even on 6/5 BP you are only getting about 315 bucks in theo so likely only discounted rooms.

Mostly has to do with the card-level perks to be honest. Obviously I like it when a host will comp things on the back end, and I'm a sucker for play-up offers. But it's the things like dedicated lines for check-in/restaurants/clubs/pool that make it "worth it" to me. Rooms aren't expensive in Vegas, but time is. I started this thread because while some systems are very transparent about what my play will get me (MGM, Cosmo, Caesars), others aren't (Venetian, Wynn, etc).

Great advice has been provided. I like the idea of Venetian/Palazzo but ultimately I don't know that I'll maintain a level of play that will get me to Elite over there based on what has been said. Assuming I'm doing $200k-$300k coin-in per year, Caesars might be the best reward system for me, since that is only borderline Pearl level for MLife from what I can see (and I can status match to Gold anyway).

That makes sense to me. Although I do think if you are okay with paying for things, Cosmo might be the way to go. In fact my wife and I have that on our list as we explore a move away from CET as well. Assuming as you said that you stay for a total of 18 nights per year and pay for your room at an average cost of 200 dollars per night (likely low), that will get you 18,000 tier points for just your room spend. Assuming you reduce your play since you pay for rooms, let's say 10k coin in per day so 180k coin in per 12 months. That's worth 30,000 tier points. So without major changes to what you're doing now that 48,000 tier points, and also a bunch back in "comp dollars" (480 minimum). At 20,000 tier points you stop paying resort fees. And 50,000 tier points is their top published level for which you get a lot of the additional perks you're looking for and then some. In addition on your way to the 50k you should also get 5 nights free for you and a bunch of wicked spoon bogos with line passes and such.

The downside for you is that until you hit those numbers you would have no status at all.

Cosmo would be the program we target if we started going to vegas more frequently. They have restaurants bars and pools we enjoy, but with only 1 trip per year, making a level would not be beneficial for us. We would easily spend the 4k necessary to make gold in one 5 day trip between room and meals and some drinks. Even if I reduced my play it would be worth it. The problem is you really need multiple trips with status to make the status "worth it" and right now we limit to once a year with AC trips in between, which forces us to stay more loyal to CET.
