The Southern Nevada Health District has released a recommendation this morning about masks.

They are recommending that all persons, vaccinated and unvaccinated, resume wearing a mask in crowded indoor locations.

    https://www.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/news-release/southern-nevada-health-district-statement/

With the rise in cases and slowing vaccine rates in Clark County, the Health District’s recommendation to wear masks in crowded public settings, including grocery stores, malls, large events, and casinos, is a step to fully utilize the tools we have available to stop the pandemic.

Additionally, people who are sick should stay home and get tested if they have symptoms related to COVID-19. People who are unvaccinated and have taken part in activities that put them at higher risk for COVID-19, such as traveling or attending mass gatherings should also get tested.

Los Angeles County and the city of Long Beach set up a mask mandate starting this weekend.

I will have much more in today's update to the COVID sticky, but wanted to get this up right away to let VMBers know about this change.

So far, it is not mandated in casinos, but there are some rumors floating around. Let's wait until anything is implemented before over-reacting to it, please.

I also ask that you keep your opinions on masks and mandates and vaccinated and unvaccinated people out of this thread or it will get closed to further comments. Thank you.

I sometimes wore a mask during my most recent trip, even though I've been fully vaccinated since February.

More people than I would have thought were wearing masks last Saturday during the Garth Brooks concert, including the woman sitting next to me. And I saw a fair number of people wearing them outside (and it was hot) along the strip.

ETA: If that's what's recommended, I have no problem wearing one again. Will likely not wear one while playing as Wynncore is pretty spaced out but will when I'm at concerts/shows.

And of course, throughout, many casino employees have been wearing masks for their own protection.

This sort of situation is I thing I feared once vaccines took off. I was afraid the success hurting us. There's always going to be that person that thinks we've got this well in hand, so I don't need to. Hopefully that's as far as it goes.

With recent happenings I was already planning on wearing one when I’m inside during my August trip.

This is very, very true. I know staff that have been vaccinated for months, but are still in masks (and, same for me).

Given how we travel and recreate a mandate to resume mask usage would not be a problem. If it's a mandate as on a plane and we don't want to abide, we wouldn't fly, but we're cool with masking up in such situations. (My wife has flown a few times and we have upcoming flights in September and it's looking like later this month.) We also do things that don't really involve a lot of indoor clustering. Though vaxxed for several months now, if we were inclined to hit a casino we'd mask up regardless what the lab coats were saying.

And it's certainly far less of an imposition than, say, dying.

I'm noticing anecdotally that mask usage continues to be on the rise at indoor spaces, and pretty much every Aria staff member I've seen has been wearing on. Outdoors is a different story, but personally, that worries me less.

I’ve let my guard down somewhat since my first vaccine shot. There, I admitted it….

The notice implies that coming in contact with those pitiful ass people who refuse to get vaccinated is going to give you Covid-19, but if vaccinated, you have done your duty and are okay.

I point this out not to be a smart ass, but please don’t think that you are CURED if you have been vaccinated. My mother in law was “fully vaccinated “ and has gotten the virus and hospitalized twice since. The vaccine is not a cure.

But that is the Very rare exception , not the rule. Follow the science . I do agree that if your health is comprimised you are much more likely to get Covid, the Flu, Shingles, etc...

I am glad that I don't have to make a decision about our next trip for a while. I think my position is that, though we are fully vaccinated, I would not cancel if they put a mask mandate in place before our next trip. It might change how long we stay in "masked areas" and cut our gambling time down some but that seems to be a fair trade for a great time, which we have had each of the times we have been to Vegas in the Covid era. I wear masks in settings where I am asked to do so.

Fully vax'd healthcare worker here; i was truly afraid to travel for the longest time, and when things settled down, I thought lets rip off the Band-Aid and go...I really didn't want to go if i needed to mask as it would really impede my enjoyment, now I am pot-committed so to speak and somewhat saddened by this news...I really needed a break from the hospital and life in a mask...and really didn't want to fear travelling any more.

    I am bummed out tonight.

Looks like Venetian and Westgate now require them for employees but not guests. I could see this happening with most casinos but I suppose we'll find out shortly. They'd get a lot of cancellations if they required them again and I'm not sure the casinos are willing to do that.

I don't want to go to far out of line here but I feel like with all of the doom and gloom reporting it needs to be said. Vaccines are still effective and if you are vaccinated you are protected. Israel is an odd case with a lot of unanswered questions with data that doesn't match what's coming out of the UK and others on vaccine efficacy. Of course nothing is 100% effective so take whatever precautions you are comfortable with. With what you read online though it's as if everyone vaccinated or not is a sitting duck. This thing will rip through the unvaccinated and a very small portion of the vaccinated. Just keep things in perspective.

Part of me feels like things might get worse so those that have trips coming soon, it might be best to keep them. Of course, it’s up to the individual with their own circumstances. You never know what’s going to happen next.

Things are much different now from one year ago, 6 months ago, 3 months ago. Is it back to normal? No, but it’s a huge improvement.

I’ve learned to be informed as much as possible from places like VMB. Expect the unexpected. Be super flexible and be really understanding of what the employees are dealing with. Bottom line is just like VMB, their house their rules. If this is what it takes for me to be in Vegas, I’ll roll with it.

This is not a mandate. A couple of casinos are mandating that their employees go back to wearing masks indoors, but there has been no mandate from any casino, nor the state at this point. It's a recommendation. All of you cancelling your trips because you'll be "forced" to wear a mask are overreacting at this point.

There is nothing about this post that is factual or based in any kind of reality. I am annoyed anyone felt like this was appropriate to post here after all we've talked about here for the last 16 months. :nono: I've deleted the post, but wanted to address it as a few people have replied to it and I'm tired of this kind of disinformation on VMB.

First - A vaccinated person absolutely can get infected with COVID-19. We have been told that the mRNA vaccines have around 94-95% efficacy, meaning you are only 5-6% likely to get sick enough to require hospitalization and/or die. A small study out of Israel, that hasn't been quantified by a larger study yet, says that a person vaccinated with one of the mRNA vaccines is 64% protected against any kind of infection. That means you have a 1/3 chance (36%) of getting the virus, although it is likely to be asymptomatic or a less severe illness than if you're not vaccinated.

Second - re: my body, my choice. But it's not, really. The way viruses work is that they mutate and become stronger and more efficient. That's their only goal, survival and spreading. If you choose not to get vaccinated, but YOU don't stay home, you are likely to get sick and spread a mutated version of this to someone else, or several other people. The more mutations we get, the more likely they are to adapt a way to get around the vaccines effectiveness. Not getting a vaccine because you're stubborn or drinking deeply from the fountain of misinformation about the vaccines, then you're putting every person you come into contact at risk, not just yourself.

Third - I am deeply offended by this whole "If you're scared, stay home" nonsense. How would you feel if I told you that you should "hide in your basement" if you're too scared to get a vaccine? It's kind of dismissive and doesn't address the issue that we have a deadly disease still spreading all over the world.

Please remember, there are thousands and thousands of people, like myself, who are immunocompromised who don't get the full efficacy of the vaccine because of immune system issues - people on chemotherapy or other cancer drugs, people who are organ transplant patients, people who have immune disease, or otherwise CAN'T get the vaccine for health reasons. In addition, nobody under 12 years old is eligible to get vaccinated yet.

Nevada only has about 50% of their population vaccinated with ONE DOSE. It's in the mid 40's for fully vaccinated. Several states are in the 30% range for one dose. And since there is no vaccine passport or requirement to provide proof of vaccination before going to a casino, guess who you're sitting next to at the bars and casinos?

Be safe. Wear your masks indoors when you are close to people whose vaccination status you don't know. Or take your chances, but if you have any symptoms of any kind after a trip, isolate and get yourself tested immediately so you don't further spread this virus.

I think a lot of people are frustrated with the situation and that is why you are seeing the reactions that you are. LA (Los Angeles County) has reinstituted the indoor mask mandate and I bet that there is a lot of fear that this will come back to all the metropolitan areas or lead to more restrictions. This is just a sad situation and whether or not you are vaccinated I believe that at this point people should be aware of the risks and should be able to make their own decisions regarding their risk. Unfortunately it appears that some people are not making the correct decisions to protect themselves and that is why these "guidelines" are back.

I am closing this to further comments. Please note that I tried to keep this open for discussion, but alas, some people want to make sure we can't have nice things.

NOTE: Saturday, July 17. I've removed some more posts from this thread. I tried to keep a few opinions and some information, but I removed a bunch of the "If this becomes mandatory, I'm cancelling" kind of posts. I know that is going to annoy some of you, but I'm trying to keep this thread informative and that's more opinion focused.

If you have questions or comments, please feel free to PM them to me and I can put them in here for you. Thanks!!

Some Vegas facebook pages seem to indicate mandatory masks are now back for Vegas.
    Is this true?
