I'm sorry for you and Evie's loss, but that old body is not slowing him down anymore. He's chasing a squirrel through green grass and up a tree somewhere.

I am so very sorry for your loss Val. The time these precious souls spend with us is far too short but their paw prints are forever in our hearts.

So sorry for your loss. As an enemy combatant, I would have been honored to be barked at by Augie.

Sorry for your loss, @Valgal I didn't know that you had a Weiner dog! My first dog and best friend when I was a kid was a doxie. He was 2 months old when we got him and he crossed the rainbow bridge at 16. I still miss that little guy.

Our pets are our friends, children, companions and motivational beings. They are with us for too short a time, no matter their age.
It's hard to say goodbye. But to know that they will never feel pain nor have poor health anymore is such a comforting feeling.

So sorry for your loss, they become part of the family and it is so sad when they leave us, we lost our Gizmo in early September, we said we would wait till the new year but it was so quiet in the house that by November we got another rescue dog.

@Valgal, terribly sorry to hear this. My wife and I have a rescue dachshund whom looks like Augie and it felt awful to see you're going through this loss. I normally don't respond on these threads, but you're in my thoughts and gave our doxie an extra few pats and treats today for Augie.

Thanks for all the kind responses. It has been a long week. Augie lived a happy, spoiled, wonderful life. The last few months he had been plagued with frequent nosebleeds requiring trips to the vet, steroids, Vit K injections etc. At first it was thought he had a dental infection but it became clear he had a tumor. We knew the day was coming that we would have to end his suffering. We took him to the vet after a night long episode of bleeding and difficulty breathing. I did get it stopped with a big dose of steroids but it is no way for a puppy to live. Evie our little female is lost without him. My husband wants to get another dog soon. I want to wait. Definitely we will get a rescue adult dog if we get another dog.

Thankfully our vet bent the rules and let me go in. No way was I going to drop him off and let him die alone. I felt sorry for the poor vet technician who was probably 18 or 19 years old. She took it harder than me.
