I asked a person who was not playing if I could use that machine and got a really bad response.

This just happened last weekend. There is a bank of machines that has to payout a jackpot before $5,000 and it was close to $5,000. As you can imagine all of the machines were taken except for one which was occupied by a group of young girls having a conversation. Well, I asked the one sitting at the machine if she was playing. Wow, they all got offended. At least the one sitting on the machine moved off it, and of course she said of all the machines in the Casino you want to choose the one I am sitting at. I said yes, I would like to play that machine. In a very self entitled way she said, you better win thousands. Not in a humorous way, so I said thanks for the good luck wishing me to win. She somehow was really offended I had ask to sit at that machine. Her friends were telling her you are pretty to reassure her things were OK. Maybe I was self entitled by wanting to sit at that machine, normally I would never ask someone to move off a machine for not playing, but hey the jackpot is about to hit.

It's a casino. The Chair was positioned in front of a slot machine. The reason they put chairs there is so someone will play the slot machine. If it were a public park, and she was sitting on a bench doing nothing, she would have dibs on it, but as a non-paying patron in a casino, you were totally in the right and there is nothing "self-entitled" about what you asked.

You could have said you need to sit down before you puke. A few dry heaves will get them to leave.

I've had this happens lots of times. I don't really care about the reaction. But back in December, there was some guy not sitting at, but leaning on, a chair at Long Bar at The D. Just so happened to be the machine that gave me Aces with a Kicker twice that trip so I wanted to go for a third. He got mad and actually sat next to me, leaned in really close and demanded to know why I needed THAT machine. I just caught the bartenders attention. He had gotten used to me being there for hours. I gave him the look that unfortunately, most women are familiar with giving bartenders when some weirdo creep is being weird and creepy. He jumped to it and asked the guy if he needed something. Nope and he left.

I will ask to take a slot chair OFTEN.

I usually stand there for just a second to see if the might be taking a break or just sitting there.

I always ask if "Can I play this machine?"

Never a problem... other than those that might be slow playing or saving for someone.

As to that girl - it is her problem, not yours.

As long as you asked politely/nicely, which I am sure you were from your polite post, that's just classic bratty entitlement. The chairs are there for players.

It also smacks of a group that doesn't play, aka "one machine is as good as another, right?" Nope.

I'm really sorry you had to deal with this. I've only asked a handful of times, but like you, its when I have a really good reason (machine is close to the limit, I just got off for a quick break and it felt hot, etc.) Every time I am super nice, but Ive had the lippy response too, and it always bugs me as well, because I DONT like upsetting people. (Once I gave the person I asked 5 bucks for good luck, I'm a total schmuck, I know! But I really wanted that machine, they weren't playing, but I wanted to soften it!)

But, bottomline, players have priority on machines, and the casinos would back you a million percent.

Some people just have no consideration for others. If she wasn't playing that machine, she should have moved so others could play. I also hate it when one player is on a machine and then their friends come along and just sits on the adjacent chairs taking up space and not playing while they watch/talk to their friend.

I think the real question is......Did you hit the 5k? Meh, it's a casino and the chairs are for people playing the slots.

Oh to be young again, once again be self entitled, riding a scooter, looking down upon the generation before me, and to.......

Wait, that wasn’t our generation! Sorry I got confused. Carry on...

As stated above, you did nothing wrong asking in a polite way to use the seat.

I wouldn’t lose sleep over it, and frankly, you need not our collective opinions as I’m sure you also know you did nothing wrong here. It’s generally best to just let these things roll off your back, life’s too short to be concerned about other jerks, especially given how many there are these days.

Sometimes I like to plop down by someone in my crew and shoot the shit, keep company while they play. You know what I do when someone approaches me and asks if I’m playing that machine? Or if I mind moving so they can play? I say “Oh sure, no problem!” And I get my beer and saunter off to get into something else IN VEGAS! Or maybe I hang out on the other side of my friend and if you won $5k on a machine I left I would hi-five you so hard and be genuinely happy for you! You did nothing wrong, it’s totally normal, she sounds like a rude little asshole who either doesn’t understand casino culture yet or can’t handle her booze. Or both. What I personally find odd is people who stare through the back of my head waiting on me to move, whether I’m playing or not. If you death stare me I’ll start paying rent and I’ll abandon everything in my life and die at that machine. But sounds like you did normal human being stuff and unfortunately you just ran across some asshole. They’re everywhere unfortunately.

Yeah but look from her perspective. She was having a conversation with her “bestie” from 6’. All the bestie’s other bestie’s had already positioned themselves the expected 6’ and were conversing as well.   And then your gambling habit :poker:interferes with all that when you could have just called the 1-800#.
But nooooo! :nono: Now she had to be 12’ away from her bestie and life sucks. :grrr::cry:
But you said the Cosmo? Ok. Ignore all those possibilities about 6’ & 12’. o_O But life still sucks and you said she was pretty so there’s that combination.

I'm going to take the contrarian, unpopular viewpoint here. OP is not wrong for asking the the woman to move. But I won't fault her either since she clearly didn't understand why the OP needed her to move. She shouldn't have made the rude comment, but she did move and the OP got what he wanted. I hate to think one bad comment is the dividing line between someone being a bitch or self-entitled versus not. OP wants to vent about it, fine. Nothing wrong with that. But ultimately this situation sounds like a lack of communication and understanding on both sides. Its not worth getting worked up over (especially since it worked out fine)
